- I have returned, and it's time for the long awaited season 2 of the NASCAR Thunder 2004 Career Mode Experience. After finishing my rookie season with 2 wins and a 24th place points finish, I set out to capture a top-10 points position by the end of season 2. This season is about putting myself in the best possible position to go after a title in season 3. My method is pretty simple, win as many races as possible and don't wreck out of any of them. EA Sports did a phenomenal job creating this game's career mode. It requires precision, focus, patience, and the occasional "accidental" caution to put everything together and have a successful season. You really couldn't ask for much more out of a career mode experience.

It's funny to me that even with sometimes crappy AI and bugs; this game is still one of the best NASCAR games ever.

The fact that curbs in this game can kill your car is hilarious but upsetting when you're racing
Season 3 I think will be tougher cause that's when the AI cars start Adjusting to how good your car is getting
I started a career run because of this series, I can 100% say regardless of where your team is in the points everyone going into the martainville choosing violence

3:32 I love that help button sound effect too first noticed it in Madden NFL 2001 from the year 2000. I think last time I heard it was in Madden NFL 2005 and then from Madden NFL 06 to Madden NFL 12 they tweaked it slightly.
Martinsville in this game is my favorite track. On 100% with Unlimited tires and fuel turned off and cautions on, is chaotic and fun, especially coming off of a caution with lap cars beside you, going into the first turn is nerve racking, sometimes I’ll miss the turn, then on my way to correct it, I’ll accidentally spin the leader or lap car. Sometimes I’ll put someone into the barrels. Such a fun track, so many memories of just tearing up the field, while tearing my car up. Sure 05 and 07 Martinsville are fun, but are not as chaotic as 04. Also, going backwards on that track is really really fun, literally blocking the entire field.
On a recent season mode where I drove as Dale Jarrett, after the 2003 season, Bill Elliott retired, and Casey Atwood took over the 9 car.
Fantastic job for the 2004 season Mark. Can’t wait for the potential god tier Season 3!
Seeing this type of power after 2 seasons gives me some hope I can power on forward in Thunder 03 in my 4th season (2005)
I'm playing thunder 04 in my 4th season and I'm surprisingly a championship contender keep grinding you'll get there

I love Thunder 2004 and while it is the best console NASCAR game ever. It does have its issues. The caution glitch can be very frustrating, especially after you just pit. Really sucks. Thankfully they fixed that in 05. The damage on Normal is really buggy, I can accidentally run into the pack from last at any track on lap 1, and the car either has a really badly damaged car close to where it the engine could breakdown, or does breakdown. Thankfully they fixed that in 05. I don’t know if it’s an issue with the game engine or not, but it gets really frustrating when those two things happen.

Loving the career mode, Mark! Are you running this on PC? I'm looking into upgrading mine for gaming, and I'd love to be able to try Thunder 04 on it.
Yes I am playing this on PC using PCSX2. It's way easier to record this way instead of using a capture card and dealing with delay, and you get to upscale it. Currently, my actual PS2 is starting to run into some disk drive issues which I probably should address soon.
i find this grudge against jeff gordon hilarious bc he is practically my childhood idol. i played almost every ea nascar game since 98 and used jeff gordon 99% of the time i had a choice of who to play. Seeing the amount of comedic spite with the 24 is the hilariously perfect ying to my yang when it comes to his player character.

Because I was emulating this I was using a PS4 controller for the whole playthrough.

What system are you playing this on? Assuming it's an emulator on your PC? You got me feeling nostalgic with this game that I setup my PS2 and it's been a long time but the textures arent as clear as yours.
I'm using PCSX2 so that I can upscale it.

How do you get so good quality on a game as old as this? I just booted up Thunder 04 on my PS2 on my HD TV and it looks god awful
I use the emulator PCSX2 because you can upscale the game and get this type of quality.

eBay would be my recommendation, but you could find it at a vintage game store or a local sports cards shop like I did.
