Thank you so VERY much... I did it! I don't have to worry about beauticians cutting into my new growth. I have 4b hair and finally grew my hair to beneath my shoulders without a beautician's help. I did what you said but used larger squares. I also sealed the nearly cut ends to keep them from going into shock, I learned this from my old stylist, Love ya Ms. MARIA! My gf who is going to beauty school wants to cut my hair and to perm it so badly. I don't think so! Last year another lady cut NOT trimmed 4 yes FOUR INCHES off my hair! AND gapped it up. AFTER I stressed a trim. Just because people say they know how to cut and trim natural hair ...doesn't mean they do. BTW this lady was a Black American. The beautician that told me about doing something similar to what your vid is teaching was an older Latina from Mexico with bone straight hair that didn't speak a lick of English. But d@mn could she cut my fro. She used only shears and said to come no more than every 6 months. Again she did what you did..but she called it a "snip". Far less than even a trim. All the Black women that went to her regularly had long hair. Including those with 5DDD hair, lol! I only went to her to get hair washes and deep natural conditioning. She only worked on natural Black hair and refused to put a perm on them. I hated when she moved out of state.
To be honest I used to be the same and promised myself to cut half to 1 inch when I get to a 'certain' length or when I grow my next 3" etc. I realised that it actually slowed din my length retention because my ends were weak, straggly, ssks etc even though I was moisturising. I am only now starting to see my hair flourish because of regular dusting of very light trims. I now look forward to trimming or dusting as my hair now looks fuller and thicker when I wear afro or WnG styles, especially as I have low density hair. Another payoff if trimming is that your curls pop even more because they are fresher and have even on the ends. I have also learn to over moisturise my ends only! They feel great and adding protective styles has seen my hair goals coming to life for retaining more length. Wish 8 did this years ago as I would have been looking at tailbone length instead of still trying to get to and past armpit length! Keeping things simple seems best.

Thank you for uploading this video! The lady that does my hair would always trim off a lot and not as small as you do. Now I can do it right, myself. Thank you again!
thank you so much for this, i grew up with my mom not teaching me how to work with my hair nor how to do my own hair or wash my 4d hair. this was helpful
I needed this 24hrs ago. I trimmed my hair yesterday but I took a whole lot off. I didn't twist it 1st either. I combed then tried to smooth it out with my fingers then chunk the end off.
I actually used leave in conditioner, moisturizer and water then I stretched my hair and cut. I could clearly see the icky ends. So I don't believe using products would give you false results. My ends feels and look nice.
I have a question, I have fine hair but my end are thicker than my roots. I have been natural for about 4 years. Does that mean my ends are damaged? I have been cutting my ends but I don't if its just my hair texture or what? I need help!!!!
I have a question. I noticed in the comments that a few women commented that your has not grown. They also stated that you have been arounf for years. I love your technique of trimming your hair. You are taking your time doing it an explaining every sec as you go. Thank You Please respond to my question.
You didn't ask a question... The things people are stating is to stir up drama. I am relaxed now and have been for years. I keep my hair short to do tutorials easier and for overall ease of life. I don't live for my hair but some women expect me to. My goal is not hair length right now. My goal is easy hair so that I can make great hair tutorials for you guys. Was this what you were wondering?
@@BreannaRutter i am going for hair growth after cutting my locs. I am natural and have been for years. I followed you simply because of your clipping ends vid. I will eventually have to do it myself. You answered perfectly. The drama worked because i took time to follow you to ask. Thank You Continue to do what you do. You truly have many looks. I will learn a lot from you (giving me ideas for my natural hair)
I was so going to do this same method weeks ago, but then I decided to just blow dry it out and cut what I thought were dead ends. Turned out that I didn't do it right and cut off like two inches of hair for nothing. I did mini twists the following day after the trim and still felt rough ends. I used salon grade shears, but I'm not sure what went wrong. =/
I think you heard me asking people totrim my hair & getting rejected lol . I need to do this after I take my braids out so I cant get rid of my split ends & get them done over . But can I shampoo my hair then do this & condition it or do I just wet it do this then wash ?
When I take out my braids while I'm deep conditioning my hair is in twists so I just trim them then rinses. You can just wet it. Dampen it a bit. People have different views on cutting hair wet and dry I cut my when I feel too whether it's dry or wet but it's always in twists
i take out my braids , wash my hair , then deep condition, while my hair is saturated in my conditioner i trim the ends when i rinse my hair out after i will examine the ends and see how the feel and then trim any ends i feel needs work. but i do it all on damp/ wet hair. there is not right or wrong way to do it but just do what you feel is best, but to me trimming wet works best on 4b4c hair
@@EricaAsjaee there's no right or wrong. Try both wet or dry and see which you prefer! Don't get hung up over it as long as you just cut off what you need to. Less is more and you can always do another trim or dust say in another 6 l, 8 or 12 weeks time. It's up to you.
Lol. But if your hair is ever in two strand twists you can just trim them like that. Or chunky two strand twists. You'll know how much you're cutting.. These salons get scissor ✂ happy and cut like crazy 😜
My mom won't buy me scissors. I have single strand knots and split ends i have to end up tearing them out because she refuses to get me scissors. What do i do?
Question! Will this help your hair grow and half of my hair is longer than the other half, so can anyone give me tips on how to fix that or should I just go to a professional?

lashawn 85 are you could go to a salon and have them basically big chop you all over again. It's not that hard people you don't even have to put them in those tiny braids she's doing...
Came in clutch for Covid Quarentine 😭💕🙏🏿 Thank you Goddess

Doesn't matter how many time I watch videos on how to trim hair, I am still gonna be too scared to clip mine.
+Nesha Britwood but you need trims so go to a salon or have a TRUSTED friend do it for you 😉💕
Nesha Britwood me too😨😰
I understand
I only trimmed, cut my locs then i went to a barber. I have a new barber though.

Breanna Rutter how often do you trim?
Thank you.. Im in South Africa and currently transitioning to natural hair.. i love your videos bcoz i learn alot.😘😘
My friend does the same thing!!! After I trimmed my hair she showed me this method and I will for sure do this!! Definitely confirmation:)

I did that too 😭💔
Well that settles it, I am definitely doing this to my ends today; it's for my hair to grow longer....sheesh split ends ain't no joke.
Better to trim on 'dry' hair. You will trim more than you think due to shrinkage.
LeeArmani101 Make sense
LeeArmani101 that's why only use enough water to damp it
Melanin Queen I was wondering could I trim my ends on dry Hair. Thank you
Yeah but it's good in the long run. Plus, you'll more likely overestimate what's actually unhealthy when your hair is already dry.
Thank you so much. I'm a year into my journey and I didn't want to go to a barber and this helped so much
One of the best tutorials! thxs!
Is this an old video I thought you relaxed your hair? Very informative video though, will def try this technique. :)
All these negative comments. so what if she went back to relaxed hair. let her be.
Thanks! I never trimmed my ends and I thought I would have to straighten it (scary!) in order to do so.
Thank you so much for this thorough description! 👍🏾
It's obviously an old video pre filmed and just released.
A little confusion with what kind of content is expected to be released
Thanks. I'm that scared as I am again. Other videos people are clipping too much of their hair. Thank you for this video. I appreciate this video

hello, if I spray my hair with water it makes my hair dry and brittle. do you have another solution for me? Thank!
try a oil
1031Fannie you have to find a moisturizer than add the oil to seal in the moisture. I use pink listen and Shea Butter to seal it.
Add some grapeseed oil to the water
Hey, thanks for this. How often do you recommend the trim?
Thanks!
Great tips!! Thank you for sharing this video Breanna Rutter :)
should you trim your hair before washing it or after washing it?
How often do you cut your split ends

I cut two inches off every time I been over cutting great 😃😭
What products do you use for your Bantu Knots?
Thanks for the information. It's a lot of work that's for sure. Necessary though!
+Visy Visy Yes! & for those who keep saying "this too much" can go to a hairstylist. There is more than one way to trim those ends 😂👍
I like this
Beautiful..
Thank you for that tip. God bless you.
How do you do the back though...
Is it okay to just wash your hair with only water?
look up water only washing on youtube!

Way to much....I'll just pay to get my ends trimmed! Lol

+Jenna Marie YEP! Every time I went in and ask for a trim I got 4+ inch cut off every.single.time...
Yeah this would take a whole day, lol,
🤣🤣 it's healthy to clip the like frayed & dead ends. Growth
Is it ok if my hair is stretched?
😭😭😭💔💔💔why didn't I watch this video before cutting 2 inches of my hair ??? I am in so much pain 😢

Save your pocket money or borrow a pair!
Didn't you relax? When did you start transitioning
Did you start over being natural i thought you relaxed hair?
Question!
Will this help your hair grow and half of my hair is longer than the other half, so can anyone give me tips on how to fix that or should I just go to a professional?
It depends on the person and how your hair and scalp reacts
I thought you was using relaxer now.
Don't you have a relaxer? I'm confused
Back to natural??? Or is this an old vid?? Thought she relaxed....
DRSXOTIC 1 same! so confused

I'm guessing it's an old video. That was just re uploaded. Because I no one can return to natural that fast. And she seems extremely happy relaxed. So this is surely an old video

I was wondering the same thing
Nice video :)
This to much for me but nice video.👍
So much of my hair is split💔
Why am I only seeing this a day after I horribly trimmed my hair 😭😭😂😂
Using just the fingers, no comb, to separate hairs is best.
is this a reupload ?
I'm confused, I thought you put relaxer...did you do another big chop?? Or is this an old video??

It would take me 40 days and 40 nights to do that on all of this hair.
not all natural african hair like to be trim like dat.

i cut wayy more than that :(
Doesn't look like you need a trim
I thought you had a perm
