I just found Trevor's channel and wanted to say its shed some light on how much the game has advanced since I played at a high level (minors) 25 years ago... i.e. @ 4:15 this pitch around 2000 was unhittable by all but the best like Gwynn, Bonds, Walker, Martinez, Griffey, Helton, Berkmen, Guerrero, etc. (roids don't help you much here). That pitch started outer half and thigh high, then for the last 10ft it dove down and in 8+ inches at 98MPH! These athletes are something special today.
This was so great. Would love to see a video where you breakdown the approach and pitch selection from some of your appearances. I always think it’s great to know what’s going on in a pitcher’s mind.
This video was insightful and I learned more about how these pitches work (especially the cutter) I can't wait to see the other categories of offspeed/breaking ball categories
SUCH GOOD STUFF! Thank you for taking the time to educate all of us fans even though you are an MLB player! Definitely do videos on ALL types of pitches please. I agree with Chad Stoller also about the approach/pitch selection video too!
@Trevor May Baseball - In college, my father was such a sub-mariner: his fastball was his curveball and his curveball was his fastball. P.S: His knuckleball killed three guys.
Love it Trev, great work explaining the grips and why they work. Most guys just say hold it this way and throw it but as you explained it’s all in the nuances of finger pressure and placement
One seam fastball, AKA: Running fastball. Known as a, "running fastball," as the ball will run in various directions, based on the pressure applied by which finger. Typically, the run is a natural run, determined by the pitcher's natural grip. If you naturally throw the ball with more pressure on the index finger, it will have a different result then a ball thrown with more pressure on the middle finger.
Excellent! Especially appreciated the difference between the 2-seam and sinker. I want to hear about Joey’s churve and Daisuke’s gyroball. And do you consider a split-finger fastball not really a fastball?
Dope video bro, I have a question when you play mlb the show do you use these pitches like as if your faces a batter in real life or do you switch it up cuz you know videos games lol get well soon btw we need you back in the bullpen to help with this world series win this year lol LGM!!
Definitely wanna see a breakdown on 4-seam vs 2-seam change-ups/circle changes. I know Kyle Hendricks manipulates the heck out of his to get different movement profiles, would be awesome if you can show how that works. (Also when you retire, we need you at SDS to get more realistic pitch movement into The Show)
Splitter....heard it's difficult. And I never knew where to place the ball with my thumb, after seeing how you grip...you use the inside side of thumb while I've been holding it with the palm of my thumb like an idiot.
Love all your videos!! Maybe one the lesser thrown pitch types? eephus, palmball, knuckle, etc. Or maybe just a breakdown of all the pitches Yu Darvish throws haha. Looking forward to the next video (and to see you pitch sometime soon)!
There's nothing more important to pitching than location. In my opinion Trevor has very good stuff but when he gets hit is because he's missing spots. In my opinion guys should be practicing hitting targets knees corners more than anything else they do. Even with the stuff Jake has he gets hit middle belt high.
It’s 90% the era, but there are slight differences in the grip. Basically the forkball was the first version of the splitter and was focused more on the width of the split fingers. The modern splitter has a 100 variations.
@@TrevorMayBaseball thanks a lot for your quick response! Amazing channel by the way! I dont even know you have one! Cheers from a friend from Panamá! In Central America! 👍
Loved throwing a cutter growing up. Had no command of a 4-seamer so it became my primary pitch. Saw Mo do a demo on MLB Network and used his grip. It worked lol
I loved throwing the 2-seam when I was in little league, though you may have called it a 3-seam from the grip. Coach thought it was a curveball because of the movement (~10-4) and got mad about it. As you probably guessed, I had a lower arm slot when throwing and that caused the lateral movement.
Can we please trade trevor may, trevor Williams and Joly Rodriguez they all been horrible what gets me upset buck keeps on using may he's been a big bust since we got him bad contract

And especially in video games
This was so great. Would love to see a video where you breakdown the approach and pitch selection from some of your appearances. I always think it’s great to know what’s going on in a pitcher’s mind.
Lmao why would he give away his secrets
Great content as always trev, really hope we can get back to baseball soon . Any extra time off is no good for anyone involved
Right on the money
This might be the only baseball content we’ll see this year so enjoying this
I'm so happy that you're doing this!!! Love you always IAmTrevorMay!!

Holy shit! This is Trevor May TREVOR MAY? I didn't realise til watching a few of these on this channel. Wow!
Yep, surprise!
@@TrevorMayBaseball I am NOT worthy to watch it, but I still do. :-) Thank you for making these.

Great to have you back! Awesome breakdown.
Definitely appreciate your candid postgame interview after the Braves game on 5/2. I’m a lifelong Mets fan that’s pulling for ya.
Thanks so much this is really helpful to someone who spent a bullpen today working on fastball grips
One day, far in the future, you are going to be a fine pitching coach, especially on the developmental level. Great stuff, TM!
This is a great video, thanks for going through this in such good detail. Can’t wait for more in the series!
This was a great video! Please do more...can't wait! Hope this strike ends so we can get you on the mound.

Really insightful video. Makes us more knowledgeable fans.
Wow this is great insight, I'd definitely love to see more pitching videos like this
Very insightful. Always wondered the grip changes and what their effects are. LGM
Guessing Trevor was referring to aging and growing into a cutter. Would welcome hearing about how repertoire’s change as the body ages
What other pitches do want to see?

Would love to see an episode about lesser thrown pitches: knuckleballs, screwballs, and especially the churve
Loved this video. Have been a huge baseball my whole life and did not know about the 1 seam terminology until now. I would watch this for all pitches!
Love all your vids brotha. I wish you had time to make more, but totally get why ya don't!
Awesome video!
Beautiful breakdown! Can you post a video describing curveball vs sliders and how pitchers get such nasty breaks?
That will probably be the most fun to do
Love your content! We need our baseball fix somehow!!!!!
Dude, u r great...more videos plz!!
This is awesome!
Awesome breakdown
Trevor you are going to have a great year with the Mets. Wish you well.
They should have let you go another inning tonight against the Phillies 4/30. Love watching you play.
wow! really informative. Let's Go Mets!
Hell yes! All the different pitches and different names for them is something that always confused me.
I was getting the question so much, I’m pretty sure there’s a lot of people in that same boat.
thanks trevor may! after watching this video i am now pitching 103 and am currently in an mlbpa meeting about to dome manfred with 101 mph!
His fastball is like Armando Benitez straight as an arrow movement he gets hit hard
Your changeup is nasty this week. Love it.
I was today years old when I found out a sinker is a variation of a fastball lol
Love all your videos!! Maybe one the lesser thrown pitch types? eephus, palmball, knuckle, etc. Or maybe just a breakdown of all the pitches Yu Darvish throws haha. Looking forward to the next video (and to see you pitch sometime soon)!
Is that a whoop band?
We gotta show Ninja this video

what's the difference between the FORKBALL and the SPLITTER?
Or Is it true that they are the same? but on different ERAS of baseball.

No splitter?
Loved throwing a cutter growing up. Had no command of a 4-seamer so it became my primary pitch. Saw Mo do a demo on MLB Network and used his grip. It worked lol
All of those fastballs have one thing in common, I can’t hit any of them.
Way better than Bauer’s channel
Knuckleball, palm ball, eephus?
So a slider isn’t a variation of the fastball? Man, I’ve been wrong this whole time.
Splitfinger?
>makes a video on how to pitch fastballs
>gives the Braves nearly all balls using fastballs
>le irony
Sonny grey threw nasty 2 seam in 2022 as well
Ejat the hecknos a unicorn fastball
⚾️
Does anyone throw a split-finger fastball anymore?
I loved throwing the 2-seam when I was in little league, though you may have called it a 3-seam from the grip. Coach thought it was a curveball because of the movement (~10-4) and got mad about it. As you probably guessed, I had a lower arm slot when throwing and that caused the lateral movement.
Break all of them down even the screwball
Diehard bets fan here pleas just post bull pen sessions instead of Minecraft
Is this Bart the genie? I'd like to make a wish...
LGM!
if you want to watch a perfect cutter, watch Corbin Burnes throw it 97 up and away to righties
Can we please trade trevor may, trevor Williams and Joly Rodriguez they all been horrible what gets me upset buck keeps on using may he's been a big bust since we got him bad contract
If you want easy views secretly film Jacob degroms workouts and routines I will personally Venmo you 100,000 dollars
