Fruity Loops actually helps here because as you alter it, it shows you what it's doing, because Fruity Loops is made for stupid people, like me. What it is doing is adding walls, or points to bounce off of. The more sides, the more round your room is for your children to play safely without running into corners that would otherwise make them realize the limitations of their existence.
@@jameswyatt6076 It also makes the room impossible to furnish, so you have a good excuse to social services as to why the little ones sleep on the floor instead of a bed.
3:05 Shape - This control will help blend the early reflections with the onset of the reverb tail. With this setting lower there will be a âgapâ between the early reflections and the onset of the reverb tail. At higher settings the two will blend together, resulting in a smoother reverb sound.

After watching the whole "You Suck at mixing" and 36 vídeos from this playlist, there's finally something you don't know: shape knob's utility. I'm impressed
See you next week is one of my favorite lines of yours now. Also your humor is sharpening. I didn't know you could progress and evolve so well. Nice thumbnail updates too. I think you submitting more vids like this weekly along with livestreams is a win-win to get you those views you love from shorter vids. Thanks for making me crap my pants in laughter while teaching me valuable life lessons from music. Life, the toilet, and music have a lot in common.
I'd love to see more reverbs with a control that ducks the wet to give the dry room like many delays do, you can always set that kinda stuff up but it's just so convenient.
I literally watch every single one of these videos the same way. With my jaw agape, repeating "OH FUCK, that's what that is?" Gonna have to get me some lessons. Thanks for your hard work putting these together.
From the Ableton Live 9 manual: "The Shape control ”sculpts” the prominence of the early reflections, as well as their overlap with the diffused sound. With small values, the reflections decay more gradually and the diffused sound occurs sooner, leading to a larger overlap between these components. With large values, the reflections decay more rapidly and the diffused onset occurs later. A higher value can sometimes improve the source’s intelligibility, while a lower value may give a smoother decay."
A lot of times I group the reverb and duplicate the track then turn the reverb off on the second track so I get the original sound plus the verb. Blends nice.
Question - are VST plugins a load of shit? I.e vs stock ableton effects (that you know how to use). For example, would you really get a noticeably better result on a vocal, using a Valhalla vst reverb vs stock ableton reverb?
I'm an FL studio user and I can consider switching to Live for the stock plugins alone. Never seen a DAW with such a huge library of quality VSTs. I use ValhallaRoom, ArtsAcoustic Reverb and SP2016. ValhallaRoom is by far my favorite VST of all time with Camelphat3 and Sylenth1. I highly doubt I would ever consider using Live's reverb when I can load up Valhallaroom.
My favourite part of this video is how in-depth you went into the Shape knob on the Input side. I've always wanted to know what that does.
Me too! Now that I know I use it regularly. He really does a great job at explaining things!
I managed to make my reverb change from a circle to square to octagon with it, at least in spirit!
I JUST SWITCHED TO AN EDUCATION MAJOR BECAUSE I WAS SO INSPIRED BY HOW WELL HE EXPLAINED IT!
