🎥 How to Eat STINK BEANS: • How to Eat STINK BEANS...
Khiriwong (คีรีวง), Thailand - Welcome to Nakhon Si Thammarat province in Southern Thailand, and specifically to the fruit paradise village of Khiriwong (คีรีวง). This village and the surrounding mountains are known to produce some of the best quality natural tropical fruit in Thailand. Today, we are focusing on mangosteen, the purple queen of fruits!
First of all, just eating purple mangosteen is one of the joys of life. I remember when I had my first taste in Bangkok years ago. During the season I would buy multiple kilos per day and eat it all in my apartment. Fast forward to today, and there’s no better place to eat mangosteen than the source. The freshness, the sweet juiciness of the fruit off the tree is unparalleled. But not only can you eat the ripe purple mangosteen, but the green unripe mangosteen in edible and delicious as well.
So we went to harvest some green mangosteen, and then Aunty cooked two different Thai dishes with green mangosteen - mangosteen curry and mangosteen salad. Both were delicious, but being a spicy curry lover, that was the winner.
Bannmaihom (บ้านไม้หอมโฮมสเตย์คีรีวง goo.gl/maps/Cq...) - There are many homestays in Khiriwong (คีรีวง) but we stayed at Bannmaihom where the Aunty is so friendly and an amazing cook. Highly recommended homestay and village to visit if you love nature and some of the best fruit you’ll ever have (just make sure to visit during fruit season - about July - September).
Thank you for watching and hope you’re having a fantastic day!

Mangosteens are absolutely magic. Never seen the green ones though, looked delicious. What I really like is that Mark is promoting village level homestay tourism both here and on his other channels. I really think that this kind of tourism that can really benefit rural Thais once everything opens again.

I love mangosteen, they are my favourite Thai fruit. Picking good ones is something to learn at first though as when the shells go hard, they turn out to go woody and not good inside, so always squeeze them when you are picking your fruit (from the store that is, not the tree!) to make sure they are a bit pliable and you can press them with your thumb.

There are a lot in Indonesia, but we haven't tried to make the trees short like the ones in Thailand. When I went to Rayong years ago, I was surprised to find that mangosteen trees are made short, so it is easy to pick the fruits. Furthermore, the fruits are smaller, it enables them not to have big seed I side the juicy flesh.

I discovered mangosteen a few years back when I was in China. It could easily qualify as my favorite fruit now, but here in the West it's really hard to find and ridiculously expensive when you find it. If you ever come across it, give it a try.

Mangosteen is yin and durian is young so we often eat them together to balance the effect 😊😊
