Yes Lisa, I love the strong borders too. I'm more of a large boulder gal but I think I will incorporate a small boxwood hedge. Mackinac Island is heavenly. Have you ever been?
I love how he gets down to touch the plants or the stones. It's like everything gets his special attention. Beautiful boxwood hedges with curves and the alberta spruces poping out every once and a while. Love it!

Jack loves what he does, he loves plants. I'm sure there is a special attachment to those gardens, and again the plantings.

@@LadyCourtney13 Interesting that Jack let the fallen apple tree adjust to its new shape. He didn't clean out the entire area but let the tree fight to survive. Gardens give back so much pleasure.

Am I the only one that could see the wheels turning in Laura’s head when she saw that “barn”….I can see a beautiful barn and horses in the new property they just bought. What a dream that would be!!!!

5 years ago today, I was watching Jack Barnwell’s Stroh Cottage Garden Tour, and although I was enthralled with the garden, I was thrilled with Jack’s touring partner. That was my first glimpse of Laura, and I was immediately a fan! How funny that this morning’s GA video was posted on the same day, 5 years later.

Michigan girl here has to explain that" Mackinac "is derived from the Native American's (from this area) word for Big Turtle (the shape of the island)....probably the reason there are huge fiberglass turtles all over the island 😊 Love this video and love seeing Jack and Laura touring such a beautiful property!

@@LeighPogue Another Michigan girl here. It is a gorgeous area - even the mainland. Come visit, you will not be disappointed- even in off season. It's much quieter just be aware that many seasonal shops will be closed.
He is so sweet and fun to watch, he has a childlike quality that is fantastic. You guys together makes for a great time! I feel the need to add, I believe that someone who is absolutely brilliant while maintaining a childlike joy and happiness is truly blessed, so when I said the original comment I meant that as an absolute form of praise.

No. When you "partner" a space with someone it no longer becomes just yours to create at your own will and time. You can lose your sense of self when doing that. I like that each shows their own style and results. jmho...

I just always really like Jack! He's so comfortable in the garden. Like a parent to his plant children .... always touching and consoling into becoming the best plant they can be. And He's a nut! Full of personality. Such a talented man.
It's an escape in time in here! These horses have a better home and vacay schedule than I do.
I can tell Jack is super funny when he was talking about digging up the big rock first you think it’s a Little Rock then you keep going “Oh she Big!” 😅😅

The Indian Village is a fun attraction too. have you ever driven over the Mackinac Bridge up to Sault STE. Marie to watch the freightliners go thru the locks? That's fun as well. That is a sweet little town.

If you watch Jack’s channel, his own tour includes him showing the sweet little kid’s playhouse near the pizza oven space. You guys should check out that video. He also goes into the barn and tours that more in depth. Pretty neat property.

I can see a HGTV tv show in Jack's future if he wanted to do one. His personality comes through very well on camera, and he obviously knows his stuff. I couldn't even imagine what the budget was for this project, but the results are breathtaking !

My favorite people in my favorite place! We honeymooned on Mackinac Island. It is our 20th Anniversary this weekend, and we wanted to come back for the Grand Garden Show, but we are moving this week, so we couldn't make it work out. I'm sad about that, but it makes my heart happy to see you there and your willingness to share the magic with us. Thank you for all that you do!

There’s so many elements to this tour that should inspire all gardeners. I especially liked his (&the island’s) attitude towards the lawn! No chemicals is great for the animals and pollinators.
There is so much diversity. My property has rocks of all sizes. The ideas that are popping in my mind are tumbling out. The relaxed look but very well maintained. So much can be learned from this.

I really love how all of the spaces are divided so that you can't see all the way around. It makes for a feeling of privacy, surprise, curiosity, and expanse. I also really like that everything isn't perfect--I'm up for a cottage lawn. Magical!
