Good evening friends. I don't usually comment too much on here even though I'm a regular viewer. Becky ignited my love for gardening and I have started my first flower bed and even grown some tomatoes and peppers as well.
Today I harvested flowers to make an arrangement for my mother who is in the ICU with a bowel blockage just one week after my dad was in a motorcycle accident and suffered a punctured lung, cracked ribs and a small brain bleed. He is miraculously recovering but is also beyond exhausted as he should be resting in order to recuperate but has been at the hospital every day with my mother. Mom is 81 and dad is 78. Would you all please keep my family in your prayers? Our heads are absolutely spinning. My mom needs a miracle and we know that we serve a miracle working God! ❤ Thank you all so much.

Volunteers are always the strongest and best to save seed from because they have acclimated themselves to your garden and area. Often times they have the best taste as well which makes them even better.

Becky just a tip about your sweet peas. My mother grew them for many years and to keep them blooming. You need to cut the flowers and cut off the seed pods so that they sprout new flowers. Otherwise they will bloom once and quit.

Read the story of the little red hen to your young child after you show them the wheat that you are growing. Include them when you harvest, grind your wheat and bake it into bead. Even though your child is still a toddler these kind of things build huge experiential meaning for them.

That also makes your garden much more interesting. Can't wait to see how you harvest the wheat. Congratulations to Josh on his successful beekeeping efforts. 🐝🐝 Happy Gardening!! 🌱🦋🌱🤗

Becky, if you keep picking the sweet pea flowers they will keep flowering for months. Don't let them set any seed pods because they think they have done their job (ie reproduced) and don't need to flower again once they pod. I can imagine the scent- my grandmother's garden. BTW did you know you can eat nasturtiums- the flowers and leaves are lovely in salad. The leaves are a little peppery and delicious!

Hi Becky, it's okay if your potato plants don't flower because not all varieties flower and flowering isn't necessary for potato plants to produce tubers. Flowering and tuber production can happen at the same time, but they aren't connected. Other factors that can affect whether a potato plant flowers include the conditions like heat and water.

Her name is Laura and she and her husband own property in eastern Oregon. She grows all kinds of things from, flowers to produce; they grow with organic soil enhancements that maybe you don’t know about. She is a wealth of knowledge and just a delight to watch. I was just thinking that you might be able to learn more than you already know from her. She produces a video per day, but they are hardly ever more than 25 minutes. He has several large raised beds similar to yours and he plants Mr. Stripey, mortgage lifter and oxheart tomatoes, along with a few types of Roma tomatoes for sauce, and blue lake green beans, several types of peppers, lettuces, radishes, cucumbers, and one giant bed of herbs for me. Basil, oregano, mint, cilantro, flat leaf parsley, tarragon, chives, thyme, rosemary and sage.. I love cooking with fresh herbs and just sitting and smelling the lovely scent of the flowers!

Becky, consider growing grapes over the arch: you’ll not only get loads off grapes, but you’ll also get grape leaves! The different recipes of stuffed grape leaves are so much fun: there’s a cinnamon raisin flavor profile, and the Irby kind I grew up with; there’s a rice stuffing that’s generally served cold versus a meat stuffing that’s generally served hot, and I’m sure there’s all kinds of other things you can do with them, too. Another friend benefit you get some shade that you can plant under.
But whatever you decide to do will be great, I know! ❤

Your runner beans are not Scarlet Runner Beans. I believe they are Sunset Runner Beans or some other variety of runners. The Scarlets are bright red. The beans have to be eaten very young, but they are not as tasty or prolific as other green beans. I grow Scarlets just to make more for the next year. My hummingbirds adore them and the seeds are big and beautiful when they dry. They don't like high heat, and they don't like their leaves to get wet.

Thank you, Becky for sharing your lovely garden walkthrough. I think planting so many varieties of flowers throughout your garden not only attracts a variety of pollenators, but also sparks so much joy. Not all potato varieties will bloom, so it's not a "guarantee" of good/bad harvest. Speaking of blooms, I am not certain those beans with the white blooms are scarlet runners - All the beans I've grown that said Scarlet Runner had vibrant red blossoms, though I did grow a variety from Baker Creek called Black Coat Runner bean that had a variety of pink, white, red, and almost lavender blooms so that was really fun to grow. We have luffa, Tromboncino squash, and Noodle Beans growing up arched trellises in our garden and they have really covered the whole thing! Granted, here in Georgia, it is probably hotter longer and that might make a difference in the growth habit of any vining plants. Last thing - we like to amend beds in late Autumn with "hot compost" (like chicken coop litter) and top with straw or wood chips. Then, the beds we didn't amend in Autumn get amended in early Spring with ready compost and any additional organic fertilizers get added as the plants are put in or on an "as needed" basis.

Beer traps for slugs works a treat. And will not hurt pets or wildlife. I used them for one season and have not seen a snail or slug in my garden since. An idea for your garlic garden next year, move it to the end of the irrigation, and get Josh to put an isolator tap in for that garden bed. That way you will be able to turn the water off on that bed and the others before it will still get watered.

Becky the wheat would be pretty in your flower arrangements too! 🌾
Flowered Thai Basil also adds beauty and scent to a floral arrangement.

Hello Becky, you are so happy when you are in your Happy Place...your garden. At first (when I became your subscriber), I thought your kitchen was your happy place. Could it be you have two happy places..hummm! I saw the vlog before your family reunion and your garden and now has really out performed itself.

Your garden makes me so happy. I see true love in your eyes touching your beautiful zinnias. This is my first year watching you grow from seed. A little jealous as my garden is just doing terrible but I find myself so happy watching your success. Thank you for taking us with you on your journey.

Hi Becky your runner beans are not scarlet runner beans. They would have bright scarlet red flowers. There must have been a mix up in seeds. I have grown them for over 20 yers. They are pretty though the ones you have. Happy gardening.😊

Such a beautiful garden and so wonderful to watch. I’m in Melbourne Australia and it’s winter (we have a mild winter) so my cabbage, kale, beets, radish, leeks & spring onion are doing well. Thanks Becky.

Becky, for your wildflower beds, I would plant Jerusalem Artichokes. They make a really tall stem and have yellow flowers on them that look like daisies. In the fall, dig up the tubers and they’re delicious!!! Just place the small tubers back into the dirt and they’ll produce again for future eating.
