Hello Dr Dan, thank you for your reaction on Lucy Thomas singing live on her first public concert. Yes she was nervous in her first couple of songs then she settled down & became a lot more confident for the rest of the concert, she sang 17 songs that evening two with her sister Martha, and finished with an amazing standing ovation & it was such a great experience for Lucy. Her next live concert will be in Tokyo on the 8th September again the concert is all sold out. Then the big one in Drury Lane London on 22nd October with a live 30 piece Orchestra she will be singing show songs & songs from the new musical " Rosie "she has sung on stage before twice in America and in the UK these were charity events. Take care, Barbara.
You can’t underestimate the significance of a first public appearance and the impact it has. For those of us who have followed Lucy from the very beginning we felt the raw emotion and we were with her every step of the way. She is a superstar.
Thanks for the reaction and insights! Lucy had just turned 20 & this was her 1st Live public appearance (this was the 1st song of the concert). It was pretty clear she had some nerves - especially early on - as you point out - everybody has to have their 1st time. I think she ended up singing 17 songs? including 2 with her sister. They have released 4 to date, including this one. I have been blown away by the quality of her LIVE voice - I hope you have time to check out one of the other LIVE songs from later in the concert and give your thoughts, (We can Change the world, At Last & Hallelujah). Thx
Good reaction. Yes, she was very nervous in this 1st song in Manchester (she told us she was). Who wouldn't be. Wet hands, lack of air (sounding strangled at one point) and extra emotion in her voice. The rest of the evening was way better. We had the time of our life in the audience listening to this lovely singer. Five years ago (age 15) she did a tv interview + one song and also a fundraising performance @Calon FM. both for a tiny audience (
Dr Dan, she put out 4 songs from this performance. The final one was "We Can Change the World (from the musical Rosie) and the encore was "Hallelujah". I think you should watch them for your own benefit. You will see how she settled in. I think she is very well managed.
Dr. Dan, I am totally impressed by your expertise and knowledge. You were able to deduce Lucy's nervous condition and the reasons for them with amazing accuracy. You've earned my respect with your insight and knowledge. Please, you must now listen to one of the other songs released from this concert, Lucy gained control of her nerves quickly. I will be looking forward to your next reaction to Lucy. Thank you.
i was lucky enough to be in the front row at the Manchester concert and did not notice nerves but when i watched the video i could see the nerves . thank you for yor comments and promotion for Lucy . if you have not done a reaction to One Moment In Time it is her latest release
I think I can give some explanations, without being in contact in any way with the Thomas family. It is true , that it is her first public concert, but she participated at quite a few fund raising concerts. She did , even do busking in the streets of Wigan. In the concert in Manchester, this song was the first one, and we can see she is a little stressed, but after that she became the star we know she is. Now, why five albums and no concerts? She was signed by Cavendish records at age 13 after her participation at UK Voice kids in 2018. It looks to me, her parents love her a lot and they added some conditions at the contract : No showbiz , No concerts, until she finishes her school years. So, contrary to other young singers , she did not do real public appearance, and she did these monthly videos until this year. She will be a superstar, no doubt♥️👍🥰
Well said anthony, yes lucy has done live concerts for charity, video on You Tube and she has done a couple of large private concerts and she stared in 3 school plays......
Good catch by you, as most of us wouldn’t know the difference. She did sing 1 of her newer ones later in the convert that sounds almost exactly like the studio version- We Can Change The World.
A very interesting and insightful analysis! I have a ticket to Lucy's third live public concert at London's iconic Theatre Royal in Drury Lane on October 22nd - it will be a fascinating experience to hear Lucy singing to a full orchestra there rather than just a piano and backing track! 😊
Lucy has such a beautiful voice ❤. Hey Dan, Gigi De Lana sang at the recent Wish Bus Anniversary concert. She sang ILL BE THERE (duet with her guitarist Oyus who has an amazing voice as well), BRING ME TO LIFE (Evanescence) & SHE'S GONE (Steelheart). The clear videos (not fancams) are on NIKA channel & CARLO GRIMALDO channel. Thanks! Her performance in this concert is 🔥!
She said in an interview that I saw when she was 14 that at 7 years old an at her grandparents 50 celebration she jumped on stage and stated giving everybody a performance. Apparently a number of people recommend to her parents she should take voice training so at 7 she started Natural born performer with exceptional talent and the drive to learn how to do it.
Hi Dr. Dan, I just found your channel. I’ve liked and subscribed as I should. I think TH-cam showed me you to show you another 20 year old singer I’ve been following. Though I certainly know Lucy. She’s got quite a voice. Until this video I didn’t know how much Tori Holub (Ha Lubb) and Lucy have in common. They both had their singing debut this year. For Tori both were in April, early in the month she sang a song at a nightclub near her home in Minneapolis, Minnesota US. It is recorded and on her channel. This was to get ready for the second one in late April. She was one of eight invited acts to sing at the Carpenters 55th Anniversary. Thankfully she had a run before that. Think of THAT pressure. A smaller audience but in the church where Karen had her final service, in Downey California. There are videos of that performance including one I recorded on my iPhone and the official video from the 55th videographer. My video is on my channel so click through to my name to see it there. In my pinned comment I list all the relevant videos. So why was Tori the youngest singer invited to the 55th? Here’s my first example. In March she and her collaborator James Wilkas released on the 2nd, Karen’s birthday, their cover of We’ve Only Just Begun. I think this will answer the question. You wanted a lower voice? BTW the horns guy and violinist are from Australia! th-cam.com/video/J95lfJqo9VY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Pq8EeqNE5XfjlYds Tori has a wide range of covers on her channel, mostly shorts but a nice number of full length too. Some are audio and some video. I’m only showing you video. To give you an example of her range. The next cover is the song “Suddenly” from the 1980 movie Xanadu. It was originally sung by Cliff Richard and Olivia Newton-John. She from your neck of the woods. 😃 Though born in the UK. This was a collaboration with Dan Wesley from the UK. th-cam.com/video/XrKi9pbpDAI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ZrjQnHvvUkSY0XVM If you don’t know who Tori is, my advice is to brace yourself. James used the term, buckle your seatbelt. I think you are in for a treat. You want a voice, you just got a VOICE. She has in her repertoire two original songs that after the writers heard a Tori video reached out and gave her the songs to sing. Also at the 55th she did meet Richard when he was the surprise guest on the last night of the 4 day event. One more thing, I haven’t seen Tori “belt” like Lucy. IMHO she doesn’t need to. What do you think? Joe
Hi Dr. Dan Lucy was obviously nervous this being her first major performance she has done private concerts with small audiences and a bit of busking but nothing on this scale I believe that she soon got over these nerves and went on to sing 17 songs which were amazing she had several standing ovations. I thought that in spite of being nervous she did a great job of this song I even preferred it to her studio version which has millions of views. you should have a listen to some of the others that have been released from this concert.eg. Hallelujah which she sung as an encore after 16 songs. Lucy´s next concert is in Tokyo next month and then a big one in London at the theatre royal Drury Lane with over 2000 seats. Thanks for reacting to Lucy.
Very interesting, informative and entertaining analysis. I think ‘first performance’ is the first concert ‘of’ Lucy, people paying to ‘see’ Lucy and solely Lucy, she being the sole focus and agenda. Other performances being much smaller and as a ‘spot’ for charity etc, but not the focus. She is not responsible to carry the whole thing like this…her ‘actual’ concert. Dan, I would love to see you analyse a follow up of a song later in the show, less driven by nerves and with Lucy settled into her voice. To that end I would proffer the song ‘At Last’, yet another ‘big shoes’ to fill song by Etta James. Would appreciate the breakdown. Thank you for this one, it was great.
I have tickets for Lucy's first London concert at the iconic Theatre Royal, with a full orchestra. The majority of her backing tracks are not just standard karaoke, being recorded and arranged for each video. Take a listen to Without You, where they use a sax for the break. Genius. Thanks for the informative review.
This being Lucy's first full blown concert and this song being the opener , it's not at all surprising she was feeling a few nerves, HOWEVER , if you were to listen to a song performed later on in the concert, her rendition of "At Last" , where her smokey lower tones are right on point, you can see she had settled in and enjoying the moment. This must have been a great learning curve for her and since this was a great success, it's going to be brilliant seeing where she goes from here.
Lucy had done much smaller audiences prior. Unfortunately when she was rising to fame in her mid teens, she was unable to do live concerts. COVID had hit the world hard leading to lockdowns in both Europe and the U.S. Concert halls, Broadway and the West End were closed for years. She has done a few private concerts in which her voice was magnificent! I was lucky enough to view one of those performances and in reality, she sings better live than in the studio.
Thank you, Dr. Dan for helpful insight to this first live concert song ever for Lucy. She clearly did not sing as well as she is capable but still had a marvelous performance. She is still excellent.
Lucy, for her first time in front of a big crowd, she did very well, according to those that went to see her. - Her next live concert is even bigger, it is a West End concert at the iconic Theatre Royal Drury Lane on Tue 22 October in London.
Hello Dr. Dan... loved your reaction to Lucy Thomas, Lucy has some things that I call Lucyism.. the shoulders going up and down she does that alot...also she does pull her head away alot..but it's part of her. You can see it also with the head move on her video " One moment in time " that she did 3 weeks ago. She sang 17 songs here and they wanted a encore so she sang " Hallelujah " there she grabs the mic and blasts them away....lol enjoy.❤😊
sabrinaraskin WRONG !!!! Lucy has done 2 live charity events and a couple of private concerts in the USA, she also starred in 3 school plays and busked in UK, this wa her first live PUBLIC concert !!! remember also she sang 3 or 4 songs live on he voice kids.
Seems he was rather focused on Lucy's nervousness and what she did than on her song, she seemed quite settled down by the end.....nit pickin???Lucy has done a couple charity live events, a couple private events in the USA and she starred in 3 school plays, plus a lot of busking, not new to the stage.....
@@wilburfinnigan2142 , nitpicking? Yes, I agree! Does he seriously think that Chris Broom and her vocal teachers have neglected to train her in these stage and microphone techniques over the past several years? And I detected - MAYBE! - one percent nerves in the first 20 seconds! After that, ZERO nerves! She OWNED that stage and everyone’s heart! Due to his disease of “analytica extremeosis” 😂, I wonder if he can recall even one word of the lyrics she sang? 🙄😒
