It’s really unbelievable how the Jazz lost so many opportunities in very close decisive games throughout the years. He forgot to mention that series against the Blazers in 99, when the Jazz barely lost game 2 with Stockton having a layup that went in and out. In my opinion, 99 was the year for the Jazz to win the title, but they let Chris Morris and Antoine Carr leave.

@AnEn Malone had Stockton, when Jordan left Pippen didn't have anyone. He had a budding Toni Kukoc but realistically he didn't have anyone and the Bulls only dropped a couple of games. Pippen accomplished a lot for someone who had just been given the reigns out of the blue, he led the team in every statistical category and finished 3rd in MVP voting and one bad call away from potentially making the finals. Sounds good to me.

I'm a Jazz fan. Even though they'll kick you in the balls over and over again, I still love my team. Hopefully Mitchell and Gobert are finally the guys to do it....
I think that their basic problem is that they just weren’t quite good enough. Most of the time they were good for about 55 wins and third to fifth rank in a very deep Western Conference, and while they theoretically could have broken through and won it one of those years, the odds weren’t in their favour. When they got up to 60 plus wins and became more of a true championship calibre team they fell to an historically great Bulls team, in back to back 6 game series.
Short answer: Michael Jordan. Long answer: ["Sirius" by The Alan Parsons Project starts playing] *And now, the starting lineup for your world champion Chicago Bulls!*
their problem is they were kinda overrated...malone was a multi-tier scumbag and a chokeartist who didnt have great post moves for a PF...be 1 thing if itd just been the showtime Lakers keeping them outta the finals during the 80s but that was really only 1 postseason series if memory serves, and the east was the tougher conference during the 80s as well as during most of the 90s....They didnt spend decades losing annually in the playoffs to Magic Johnson or Hakeem Olajuwons teams...They couldnt get to the finals until all the WC teams ahead of them, all of whom except for Houston and the showtime Lakers werent good enough to ever win the championship, declined. Meanwhile they werent able to even extend either of those 2 finals series against the Bulls to 7 games, whereas Reggie Millers Pacers did so in the 1998 ECF 1 rd b4 the Bulls beat the Jazz in 6 games...The Knicks also managed to take the Bulls to a 7th game in 92...The issue with the Jazz was they werent ever that great, and by the time they were in the finals none of their best players were in their primes anymore at all.
@@dp233332 they were the 3rd best west team in the 90s behind the rockets and spurs. They would have 2 rings if it wasnt for Jordan. Get your head out of your ass.
@@brentw0681 Not really. The East was stacked and significantly better than the West at the time. The Pacers and the Heat alone would have proven to be a huge challenge for the Jazz. In reality what let the Jazz done both times against the Bulls was the lack of scoring outside of Karl Malone. Stockton passed the ball way too much instead of focusing on scoring more. Passing was pretty much all he had to his game which therefore made the Jazz offense incredibly predictable. Just watch Rusty Buckets video on why Stockton is the most overrated player of all time and couldn't truly contribute enough to a Championship winning team.
@@taliamason7986 So stupid lmao, Every 3 out of the 4 years the Bulls didn't win in the 90s, the West won. Not to mention the Pacers were the only consistent runner-up.
I remembered when Scottie Pippen whispered a somewhat famous quote to Karl Malone in Game one of the '97 NBA Finals: "The Mailman doesn't deliver on Sundays..." And he bricked both free throws.
I remember the Jazz vs Sonics series when the crowd got into Malones's head by screaming "10, 9, 8,...." when he was shooting free throws. 90's NBA was the best.
I don't know if they got into Malone's head or his mechanics were simply off. Consider: he shot an uncharacteristically low 58% from the line during the entire 1996 playoffs. It's interesting when a guy's accuracy just drops out of the blue, then returns to normal the next season (75-78%).
The Bulls fans were counting in the Finals too when Malone was at the line, haha. He always took more than 10 seconds. His problem was obvious and can be seen clearly even in this video: for some unknown reason his free throws are like fadeaways; he's always falling backwards when he shoots them.
I HATED these guys when I was a kid because they destroyed my Lakers in the '97 and '98 playoffs. But, now I respect and appreciate them for being so good.
I remember Isiah talking about the main reason Utah never won, he said it was Karl’s free throw shooting. I never understood until I thought about how many games, specifically playoff games, that could have been won due to Karl making his free throws in the last minutes and seconds of their games.
When he hit that shot, I jumped up off my sofa so hard I hit my head and put a hole in the ceiling. Cost me my cleaning deposit when I moved out of the apartment.

I mean CP3 could still win a championship if he leaves Phoenix in FA to go to the Lakers, Clippers, 76ers or Heat, he fits in great there. Hell, even possible if he decides to go to Denver. CP3, Murray, Aaron Gordon, MPJ, Jokic sounds like a terrifying starting 5. So much scoring and playmaking on that team. I'm not a Denver fan but I hope he goes there in FA and wins a chip with them. Phoenix is a young and talented team but CP3 is too old to be trying to win a championship with them when this will be their first playoff appearance since 2010. Time is ticking for him to get his ring.
I think that that was the only game in those 2 years of the Bulls vs Jazz Finals that there was a blowout game. Practically every game used to come down to the last play to be decided.
just thisguy you have to remember that the Jazz had homecourt advantage and had swept the Lakers in the western finals while the Bulls barely beat the Pacers in a 7 game series. That’s why many people thought the Jazz would win that year, but I don’t think the bulls were taken as underdogs, it was very close between the two teams.

can you guys please do one on Tony Gwynn? He was always considered the Wade Boggs of the National League. He had 15 all-star appearances, seven silver sluggers, five gold gloves, and tied Honus Wagner for the most NL batting titles, including his legendary season in 1994, in which he would have become the first player since Ted Williams in 1941 to achieve a .400 batting average. He also loved the city of San Diego so much, that he was willing to take less money just to stay in his adopted hometown. Despite all of this, he never won the world series, league MVP, and only appeared twice. With all the power and experience the Padres had during this time, I would like to know once and for all, what made Tony Gwynn "Untitled?"
All the same reasons that Barry Bonds never won a World Series. Individual contributions in baseball are heavily limited. I'll paraphrase what Seth said about Bonds to talk about Gwynn, "You are limited to 1/9 of the at bats and can only field balls hit your way. Technically, Gwynn could have batted 1.000 his entire career and never won a game let alone a World Series if the rest of the bats or pitching don't perform"

Good. And along with Karl, not much else. Though Bryan Russell I felt could've been featured a bit more. Their roster was filled with too many pedestrian players. Adam Keefe, Greg Foster, Ostertag, Eisley, Shandon Anderson. John & Karl had to do a lotta heavy lifting to get em as far as they did. Clyde Drexler points this out. They simply didn't have quality depth like Phoenix and Portland had to go against the Bulls.
Those 2 seasons that Houston won the title back to back Hakeem Olajuwan was unbelievable. Yes he was already great but those 2 seasons he upped his game to another universe. He had great quickness, footwork and moves underneath the basket but what made him unstoppable was when he worked on and perfected that turn around fall away jumper on the wings that he didn't have earlier in his career. Not only did Olajuwan win back to back MVP awards but he also won DPOY back to back.
@@geordiejones5618 Yup, the Rockets were a league best 5-1 against the Bulls during Jordan's first 3-peat. They really did match up well against them. Hakeem would have averaged 40 on Cartwright.
ppl act like that jazz team only played together for 2 years. they didn't win a chip bc their all-star, all-defensive pg routinely got outplayed by other pgs (terry porter, kevin johnson, gary payton, etc.), then they made the finals when they got to play against darrick martin, matt maloney, and derek fisher.
History appreciates players' loyalty to a team and the legacy they leave behind more than what players think. Professionals today put so much on the benefits of winning a ring. Winning a ring is amazing, but the way in which you go to achieve it means so much more, win or lose. Malone and Stockton left a such an amazing impact at Utah. Anytime someone mentions the Jazz it cannot be done without saying something about Stockton and Malone. All without a championship! This proves that a title can be overrated. They are amazing players who did not diminish their name by going off somewhere else to win a championship (yes Karl Malone did, but 1 or 2 years at the end of a career aren't enough to really diminish their brand). I wish players today would be more concerned about being a franchise player with a retired number and HOF career than just leaving a team to go win a ring. I don't think players realize that the more they go from team to team in an attempt to win a title, the more they ruin their own legacy and how they will be remembered.
Stockton is the most underrated Hall of Famer in history. At best, people call him the greatest passer in history….which he is. However, a lot of people disagree with that FACT. He is also a severely underrated scorer. That’s the case solely because he was the best team player in history too. Because of that, he followed every instruction his coach gave him…..which was, pass to Karl Malone. Side note, the only reason he didn’t win a championship was…..Karl Malone (who was slightly overrated). Yes, he’s a HOFer. However, as this video laid out, he was also a terrible free throw shooter, and even more importantly, choked under pressure…especially in the playoffs. Whenever Malone wasn’t looking at the underaged children in the crowd, he was a slightly overrated all-time great. (Sorry, but it has to be said whenever Malone’s name is mentioned).
This answer is more than just Jordan. The Los Angeles Lakers with Kareem, Magic, and Worthy later on KOBE and Shaq. The Portland Trailblazers with Clyde and Co. Seattle with Kemp, and the Glove.Houston Rockets with Hakeem, and Clyde.Golden St. run TMC. Phoenix with KJ and Barkley. Spurs with Robinson and later Duncan. Then there was the monster when they went to the Finals of Jordan, Pippen, Rodman and Phil Jackson.
That's a bit of an empty post on your part. You're throwing every star name in as an obstacle, but Utah didn't even lose to some of those teams. They never lost to Shaq in the playoffs, for instance. And Shaq later stated that the Lakers would attempt to avoid Utah, even in their twilight years, because of what a poor matchup they were.
Morten Potzdidler Do you honestly think they would have beaten the Lakers when they 3 peated? Karl and John we’re still playing at that time. They also lost at least one playoff series to every team mentioned besides that Lakers team of Shaq and Kobe( I am sorry thought if the Jazz played them those years they would get destroyed). I know everyone loves MJ but he was in the East not the West and he only beat them 2 times.
I know they were as old as dirt and they had beaten them previously but they would have gotten destroyed in the three peat years by the KOBE and Shaq Lakers. I said that Stockton and Malone lost to more than just the Bulls. Here is everyone they lost too including the Bulls -Dallas 86 and 01 Warriors 87 and 89 Lakers 88 Suns 90 Blazers 91 92 99 and 00 Sonics 93 and 96 Rockets 94 and 95 Bulls 97 and 98 ,Kings 02 and 03.
My biggest issue is how the HOFers that never won rings during the 90s Bulls era are simply remembered as footnotes in Jordan's path, which completely undermines their greatness.
John Stockton is a one of a kind player in NBA history. People overlook that he is so accurate from the field on so few shots. His frame makes it a miracle for him to be a NBA player let alone a superstar for so many years. No off court issues, good teammate, family man, humble, tough (a bit dirty yes, but it was a rough era), professional, fundamental. He is a true role model and what young basketball players should study today. Respect!

It’s really unbelievable how the Jazz lost so many opportunities in very close decisive games throughout the years. @AnEn Malone had Stockton, when Jordan left Pippen didn't have anyone. He had a budding Toni Kukoc but realistically he didn't have anyone and the Bulls only dropped a couple of games.

I remembered when Scottie Pippen whispered a somewhat famous quote to Karl Malone in Game one of the '97 NBA Finals:
"The Mailman doesn't deliver on Sundays..."
And he bricked both free throws.
Best trash talk ever
He also did that trashtalk in game 4 but Malone made both freethrows to put the jazz up 3 with 20 seconds left
Those freethrow attempt was long
The Bulls fans were counting in the Finals too when Malone was at the line, haha. He always took more than 10 seconds. His problem was obvious and can be seen clearly even in this video: for some unknown reason his free throws are like fadeaways; he's always falling backwards when he shoots them.

7:26 Look at the paragraph under the word "Blazers", that lil 27 points and 20 assists from Tim Hardaway, damn.
@@williamturnbull16 they beat kobe and shaq twice. By the 3peat years malone and Stockton were old as dirt losing in the 1st or second rounds
Michael Jordan that's the reason.
Eddie Johnson really hates the Jazz😂
That man was a problem to Utah in the 90s, he was literally the Utah Jazz Killer
Respect!
welp
Karl Warner Agreed. The Anti-Iverson.
People forget I think how good utah was. They wasn't over athletic but was so fundamental it was very hard to beat them! Great ball movement and shot selection.
so, basically, malone was a choke artist in the last 10 years and stockton in the first 10
... lmmfao ... Pretty much so ...
Exactly that's why their overrated. Their stats were great but couldn't get it done when it counted. Even in 98 Stockton missed that 3.. If he did we wouldn't be talking about Jordans last shot.
Harper got a finger on that shot. The 3 before to put Utah up 3 he hit. Watch game 6 against Houston and game 4 1997 finals the end both games. Stockton was clutch. His assists and steals records will never be broken. He is the 2nd greatest of ever.
paul b Thomas > Stockton
