Bambu Lab P1S Review with AMS | The one for everything

  • Hey guys, finally I am going for something not cheap. Well, yeah, I am cheap, so I always go for budget one.
    It is a bit of hard for me to dealing with the price, since I am so getting used to the budget friendly printers. But I have to say, this thing is awesome. The speed, the printing quality are both decent right out of box. I also get the point now why so much people like it so much.
    The AMS system will help me with my future design, yes, it is pricy but hopefully it will be worth it long term.
    If you think this video is helpful, please let me know in the comments. Or, you think there is something that I didn’t cover, please let me and others know.

    As someone who started 3D printing with an Ender 3 and did the dozen or more improvement mods and now has a Bambu P1S, I can say that the P1S is good enough to be an endgame printer for the average user. When I print, I want my parts quickly and I want them to be successful. No more waking up the following morning 10 hrs into a 15hr print only to see the print had failed many hours before because the filament broke. I ran out of filament towards the end of a print on my Bambu and the printer stopped on its own, prompted me to add more filament and successfully completed the print without issue. There is no honor in lost prints. It doesn't matter if you figured out a way to get to work the 2nd or 3rd attempt. If you want your prints completed so you can move onto your next project, then these Bambu's are great.

    You can tune the Z offset in the start gcode of Bambu Slicer. I think by default it is set to 0.04mm. I set mine to 0.05mm and bed adhesion is much better.

    Thanks for this, while I appreciate a lot of the other TH-cam channel reviews, I feel like you got more at the actual questions I have about the printer and the actual user experience of printing with it. For me it's a question of do I invest more time and money into modding my Ender 3 V2, or get something that will require less maintenance and work over time and has a lot of the capabilities I want right from the start. You showed me that it's not the set-it-and-forget-it experience that some people portray it as, still gotta do the usual tuning song and dance in places even though there are great advantages. That's really helpful information in making my choice, I don't want to drop $1000 on something with false expectations.

    This is genuinely the best review video I have found on the P1P/P1S. All of the other review videos I have found don't really show the inside of the printer and don't give a view of what it's actually like to print from start to finish, so I really appreciate this video as I can actually see how the printer works. I am also considering buying either a P1P series printer with an AMS system or an Ankermake M5C with the V6 Color Engine(When it comes out). Any thoughts on what would be a more effective choice?

    • @SvgLau
      @SvgLau  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think P1 series with AMS might be a better call, if M5C with V6 is at same price range. I don't own M5C so I can't really tell you if it is a good printer or which one is better. But, P1 with AMS is almost painless to play around after you know the basic work flow.
      Also If I remember it right, M5C is also closed source product. As far as the part availability, there are many many more P1 Series out there, you can find parts and supply easily. That said, in long term there might be issue with part supply for M5C if Ankermake stop support with their offical parts.

    thanks for the honest comments and review. For PLA printing, do you need to keep the door open?

    • @SvgLau
      @SvgLau  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      depends on surrounding environments and models you are printing, generally if you are printing models with a lot of overhangs, and bridging, you will like to open the door to get better performance. I generally keep the door shut for PLA during winter time, it doing all good. But summer time, I normally have the door open a little bit.

    This is a thourough review and real. I am thinking of buying one from China as the USD conversion to Chinese Yuan is good, about $700 with AMS. You got me to order one.

      That is interesting tho, from their official site? or any ohter plate form. Interesting that the price at Chinese Yuan is cheaper directly by from their US site store now. But I think you might want to do a little research, Bambu lab machine might have regional lock. (I saw someone talk about it on Reddit before.)

    I’m torn between a Prusa MK4 and this. What would you recommend? Loved the review btw.

    • @SvgLau
      @SvgLau  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think both are solid printer. It really depends on what you want. Prusa printer known for it's robust and quality, it would be great for a long term ownership. P1S however is fast and good print quality. If you need muti-color prints, P1S with AMS would be come with a lower cost.
      In the other hand, mk4 now still needs wait for lead time after you order it. Also kits version takes somewhere around 10h to build.
      P1S roughly 1h to set up and start first prints. Hope those infor helps.

    why all the benchys has this problem in z? (the ugly line in a entire layer or multiple layers before the overhang), i see this line also in some other prints at the same height in videos of the p1p / p1s

    • @SvgLau
      @SvgLau  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it is mostly due to the different cooling rate for the material. When printing overhang, there is higher part cooling fan rpm click on, that cause different shrinkage rate apply to layers. Not really big of a deal when you a actually printing something. This is more like only occur at small parameter print with big overhang for high speed printing.

    I have only been with 3D printing for a very short time but it has really caught my attention, in one month I have gone from an Enver 3 version 3 to having a Creality K1 and a K1 MAX due to the printing volume. At the moment I think the AMS system is more marketing than anything. I say this because the piece is still plastic and if you want it to look more professional, POST PROCESSING is mandatory and when applying paste and sanding you are also forced to paint. On the other hand, I think that BAMBULAB is oriented to the USA, I live in CHILE and the values of CREALITY are similar to the international ones U$500 K1 and U$800 K1 MAX, but an XC CARBON with AMS system is worth more than U$2000, which I think indicates that Creality sells at a lower price to resellers and BAMBULAB maintains the price, which means its unused value almost triples.

    Nice Review,,, The Noise they make is pretty full on, Ive heard a few mention it but the fanboys pretend like its no problem so its hard to get an honest point of view on it-. its alright if you have a extra room to put it in,,, but if you are still hearing it through out the house then it becomes a bit of a problem if you like running printers 24/7-
    Building a Box/Cover out of some sound proof sheeting should be a easy and fairly cheap solution for it-- still worth buying one just so your upto date on the latest tech but i think I'll wait about a year to see what else they release before buying one-.

    • @SvgLau

      Thanks, I mean the sounds is really hard to get over for me. I have limited space where I can put my toys at, it is really distracting if you are trying to do something requires attentions and the printer is running. Let's look back a year later, this noisy box might be something "dated" at that time. There should be more quieter solutions on market then. 3d printer is growing so fast now.
