Weight is a great way to identify a tool. Snap-On's hand tool manufacturing is precise enough that the weight doesn't vary much. I wouldn't be surprised if they had tables for damages and condition to get it surprisingly close. If a knock-off tool has the same basic parts and it's the same size and shape, the difference between the weights may be tight. So, a precise weight would be needed to be useful.

As a collector of vintage snap-on I love the trill of the hunt. Last weekend I got a unbranded snap-on ratchet. AT-8022 on the handle. It was in a box of junk ratchets. But I saw the body looked like a WWII snap-on look. Than I looked at the back that would normally have some name plate. Than the most obvious was the trigger with the date code between the on - off. I paid $4 and walked away knowing it was real. Looked it up after the fact and it’s a solid $100 ratchet.
That’s why I always walk around swap meets :)

What do these screwdrivers have in common?...... You are still paying the Snap-on truck each month for them..... is what I thought you might say.

I've got a few of the old school black handle screwdrivers from My grandpa. Probably made in the 80s.

I remember the clay screwdriver handle video. I thought it came out looking like a Wiha handle

Btw the current hard handle screwdrivers as I'm sure you know are offered through William's, but they're also rebranded by CAT, and Skillcraft .
I don't know all the details on the Skillcraft, but the brand is owned by the Ability one project who employs blind people.
The packaging says " MADE IN THE USA BY PEOPLE WHO ARE BLIND OR VISUALLY IMPAIRED ".
Maybe that means Snapon / Williams works with their program and employs blind people in their manufacturing?
Or Ability one just orders them with sterile handles and Mark's then packages them?
Either way they are the same screwdrivers.
You aren't going to get the Snapon warranty of course, but their all are all the same screwdrivers ( minus the color options ) that you should be able to score for less money , and if you find them in good condition the warranty shouldn't matter.

Im looking for a non-ratcheting screwdriver with a spin cap at the end and a locking bit holder. Bit storage would be a plus. Anyone know of one like this?

I have one screwdriver with that black Snap On like handle but it doesn't have the logo on in and it's a bit rougher in finish. It says CHROME VANADIUM on the shank. I wonder what company made it.

I wasn't aware that you could warranty used tools that you didn't buy new? Or is this just one of those letter of the law vs spirit of the law kind of things?

Screwdriver blades are a common, easy, and expected warranty item so there is not usually pushback about the original owner issue from the dealer. However, above that, it is something between you and your SO dealer. I find that rather than a spirit of the law situation, it's more of don't ask, don't tell. At least as long as there are other sales involved.

The olive drab and tan handled ratcheting is a speacial run for the Wounded Warrior Project. Unfortunately, the writing wears off very easily.
