Scotty Kilmer I used to change my oil until my knee and hip was bad. Now I have been letting Walmart do my oil change and they do a great job and they also charge decent price for decent work like they used to do in old days. My Walmart has also “older” guys working there, they are old oil heads and I like talking cars with them. So not all “Walmart” car guys are bad, we just have to get to know them and make sure they are not tinny boppers making chump change for there party money.

I bought a brand new, 3 miles when I bought it, 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe last year. After I noticed I hated that stupid auto shut off function to “save gas” I had the option to turn it off every time I stared the car. 600 miles later, I noticed it would make a weird vibration when the car would come to a complete stop. Even with that auto shut off option off. I took it tback to the dealership and explained to them. I took a tech with me on a test drive and he felt it. 2 weeks later in the shop with them, Hyundai tech line said it needed a new transmission... long story short, I got out of that car and they provided me with a new car that didn’t do that. They were unable to give me the same color(wife was bummed anout that) but I wasn’t going to settle with them for a new tranny. 2 other Santa fes I tear drove did the same thing. I can see it in a few years that’s going to be a recall because ppl don’t know or worry about those minor things

He needs to file a lawsuit. Most attorneys will take these cases pro bono btw and you pay them if you win like 30%(and in cases like these you will absolutely win/they’ll settle).. you can also recoup attorney fees and court costs.. so don’t be afraid to go to an attorney. Hell ..most of them will talk to you for free and analyze your case- and this guy absolutely has a case.. and only driven 6/10ths of a mile? He will win big.
But you should learn how to change your oil on your own by watching Scottys videos.

Not sure why customers of yours are having engine problems at only 100,000 miles.
But I gave that second one to my son he drove two weeks over heated the engine blew the motor! (a heater hose went bad and he keep driving) If he had stopped driving when it over heated the car most likely would have made it to the 400,000 mile mark on the original engine and transmission!

Clutch failed at 25k miles (been driving manuals for 30 years, never had a clutch go) At 60K the clutch slave cylinder went, dousing the new replaced clutch in brake oil. Replaced clutch (again) slave cylinder, flywheel etc. Several thousand dollars later, transmission started to get difficult to shift, which is a sign it is about to fail in these cars. Sold it as is. I've seen so many Hyundai-Kias with over 200k with no issues! Those engine recalls and defects are always typically fixed free of charge even if the engine have over 200k on it because they now have a lifetime warranty!!! So they're not bad! They're good cars but that one particular engine they screwed up on and now are paying the price but they don't leave their owners behind paying 5k or so they have finally stepped up and give free replacements left and right even heard a service manager at a Hyundai dealer say he immediately approves engine replacements for free even when the owner neglected engine maintenance because it was going to blow anyway. So despite them making a not so great engine (doesn't speak for every Hyundai engine because most are really good) they still have you covered OUT OF WARRANTY!

    • @palebeachbum

Service manager at my local Hyundai dealer said the same thing. I asked him why there were so many used Sonatas in the service area. He explained they were all getting new engines under warranty due to a defect. He said they were replacing them no questions asked. One lady's Sonata had over 200k miles on it and was still getting a new engine. That's some excellent customer service. Can't say my personal experience was too goo though.

Just one comment about revving high when shifting, I had the same issue on an old Nissan, over a period of 6 months the car started shifting from 1st->2nd at 2000 rpm, then 2800, 4800, and then one week it wouldn't shift until over 6000 rpm!! and a couple of times wouldn't shift at all. At this point the Overdrive light was flashing during a couple of these instances and I read the code: It turned out to be due to a faulty throttle position sensor, swapped in a new one and it was like I had a new transmission. It's now 2 years later and have had no further issues.

I have two bad experiences with Walmart’s car service center. 1) I had taken my previous car to them for an oil change. After, when I got home, I wanted to check the oil level. The hood wouldn’t open - the hood release cable was broken. I called and spoke to management, and they agreed to pay for me to take it to a body shop for cable replacement. 2) My mother had her oil changed at Walmart. A few days later, her oil light would come on and off while driving - turned out the filter wasn’t on correctly and was leaking oil. Never again will our family use their services.

Same happened to my wife’s 2014 Jeep Wrangler. Thought I was saving a few bucks taking it to Walmart for an oil change. They didn’t put the cap on. Drove about a half a mile before engine light went in. Oil was all over the engine. Walmart said it wasn’t there fault until the store manager reviewed the video. They offered to replace whole engine. Seemed like a fair deal (over $10k). Jeep dealership mechanics replaced engine but fuel hoses weren’t on correctly. Engine failed soon after. Dealership now had to replace with a new engine. Electrical problems still occur till today. My recommendation Spend the the extra $100 for the dealership to change oil new vehicle until warranty runs out, then afterwards just do it yourself. Don’t use Walmart for sure.

I've owned a 2014 Kia Forte EX for 3 years now. It has a GDI engine, so it burns oil like crazy. There's also carbon buildup too. It's definitely a lemon since it had issues way before I hit 100,000 miles. It's a endless money pit...
My next car will be a 2013 Toyota Camry SE...😁

My friend worked in the service department at Walmart a few years back. He needed to start somewhere to get into being a mechanic, experience wise.
He tells everyone, do not take it to Walmart. You pay for what you get.

Sad thing is there are people who think these quick lube shops have master mechanics who know everything. Nope. You literally handed your car to a burger flipper who thinks base model fart can Hondas are cool.

Base models aren't good on Honda's?

I have a base model 2019 Civic. Not sure if it is cool. I have 8 vehicles insured and on the road, if they all run, they are cool enough for me.

Right about Hyundai/Kia back in the day, wrong about them now. People have engine issues because they fail to get basic maintenance.

My brothers hyundai santa fe engine shut off while driving twice. Hyundai knew about it. Did they ever fix that issue?

I remember a Dodge 2.7 in for overheating...fan bad, relay bad, dash fuse out, 2nd relay bad...all that fixed and no signal from ECU so that was replaced and then the fan worked. I do wonder if it was hit by lightning.

What's your opinion of reliability of a 2011 golf tdi? Made in Germany, running around 110k miles, purchased in Houston. What should I worry about it mechanically?

I used to work for the post office. For a short while we used to have an oil change place change the oil in our vehicles until they forgot to put oil in one of them. The carrier got about a half mile down the road and it quit on him. We went back to doing our own. LOL.

Yep, I know two people that similar things happened to them.
    1) Not tightening the oil drain plug. This happened to one person 3 different times. Once it occurred at a dealership.
    2) A local service station failed to tighten the lug nuts after rotating the tires.

Happened to my dad at a quick lube place. They didn't tighten the drain plug. Luckily his truck had an oil pressure gauge and he saw it drop. Drove back to the quick lube place and tore them a new one.

Scotty, I have a 1987 Ford Mustang. The actuators for the door locks have failed. The passenger side failed in the down position so I can use the key to lock and unlock the door. On the driver side I guess it failed in the up position because the key won't turn to lock the door. Can I just pull the door panel and push the actuator down to make the key work on the driver side door lock?

Mr. Scotty, you've been a mechanic as long as I've been alive. I've only wrenched on cars for about thirty years. I'd love to have your customer base for my side work, then I can quit my fulltime job and do my side work fulltime!
