The different wood tones and the different sized finger joints really makes this tool box amazing. This tool box design has Diresta written all over it. Literally.
it's wonderful to see you do a project from start to finish completely by hand, without trowing a wooden plank on top a machine and then just waching assembled.thanks.
Yeah. I spotted the tongue in groove maker thing on the table saw tray thingy (I forget the correct term); literally a tiny piece of wood, and all that is needed to make the perfect corners on the box. Super impressed.
I love this tool box. The addition of the "push through" drawer is a great addition. You can set it down and have access to the drawer from either side. The possibilites and uses are endless. Thanks again my friend!
A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, I made a tool box kinda like this one. It was when I was in shop class in High School. It was a wooden with two dividers and a wooden dowel for carrying handle. Nice work Jimmy! 🇺🇲 👍
Half round 3/4" hole in the face of each drawer front as a finger pull. And a bit of wax on the drawer bottom. Mine was a framer's tool box bestowed on me by an old timer back in '81 when he saw me show up the first day with my tag sale copper framing square and brandy-new worm drive Skil Saw and the rest of my tools in a galvanized bucket. The next day he brought a copy of his first box that he knocked together for me overnight. 3/4" ends and bottom, 1/2" sides with handle of 5/8ths black pipe, run 1" long thru the ends, held loose in place with 6d finish nails drilled and clinched over as one would with cotter pins. Inside the bottom was divided lengthwise, with one side divided by 3/4. It was 16" long, to hold a framing square, 8" wide and 6" deep. About 20 years on I passed it to a newbie who as just breaking in, but about a year later I missed it so much I made me another... exactly like it. And tho retired from all that it still holds some tools under the workbench, awaiting the day when they're tag sale'ing my "estate" and some young carpenter comes along offering 5 dollas for it. If you sit real quiet with the box at your feet, in a house framed but not yet complete, at the end of the day after all have gone, you can hear the echoes of hand drive nails, pounded by hundred thou'.
This video is focused and satisfying. It's a testament to so much of your work that has the ability to pass along knowledge without having to use words. Thank you Jimmy!
I was thinking of making these for each of my power hand tools, like a battery charging box, drill box, jigsaw box, etc. Just grab the one you need to do work outside the shop. Awesome work, much love friend
Love seeing those Carter Guides in use. I have used them on all my saws since I installed the first set on a Powermatic 20 inch bandsaw we were converting to a friction saw back in 88.
There's so much beauty in something that looks simplistic but you know it isn't. That looks so much like the tool caddies my grandfather used to carry his smaller hand tools in. He had three of them that I remember seeing in his garage shop when I was a kid. Gonna have to grab me one of those flat packs now! Thanks, Jimmy, for the instant flashback memories!
I thought it was repost, but the knife and blade at the end reveal the news, Nostalgic! Congratulations Jimmy. I have a huge appreciation for your videos in this format. 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Any of you folks ever heard of the "WOOD WRIGHTS SHOP " on PBS ??? Well I bet Mister DiResta has !!! The wood wright show how all of this was done with hand tools , way back when ... Machine tools are nice to have & use , but they are by no means required ... I am a 50 + year whittler / woodcarver , started in 1969 at the age of 17 , will be 70 in September .
I think I've watched just about all your videos and yet this is the first time I think I've ever thought "Yup Jimmy doesn't like sanding either, I can tell."
It's all about the journey, but jimmy at the bandsaw is like watching a good musician playing music. Bet jimmy would be faster than the cnc, one could double up on the sides. Either cnc or other tools, thanks for taking us along the ride.
I miss the old style videos where you talk us through what you are doing, and all the great tips and tricks that usually came with it. I realise that it is more work, and editing, but the result is so much more satisfying, and so much more useful than ‘just’ these no comment fast forwarding videos. Miss the banter too that always came with the basement videos 😄
Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Jimmy. When my grandfather passed, we were helping pack up his garage and I found his old tool box. Looked almost identical to yours. Means a great deal to me. Thanks again. Cheers.
seeing the white pencil, in the fingers of Jimmy's left hand while he sawed handle mortices with his right, took me back 50 years and working with my father. his was a lit cigarette
Wow hey thanks so much Jimmy this is the video I’ve been waiting on no automation just great hand craft woodworking. Been a while since I’ve got to see one of your greatest hits. Truly amazing thanks again for the post
Beautiful work! Thanks for the inspiration. So many projects so little time. You know what your doing, But watching the bandsaw footage sped up like that makes me nervous. LOL🥴
This brings me back the chills of Jimmys New York basement shop!
I was thinking the same! Great video
I miss that shop!
That shop was awesome in its own way
it come to life when you apply the finish to the drawer.
Very satisfied
The different wood tones and the different sized finger joints really makes this tool box amazing. This tool box design has Diresta written all over it. Literally.
The tool box is one of those Iconic shapes that have stood the test of time.
it's wonderful to see you do a project from start to finish completely by hand, without trowing a wooden plank on top a machine and then just waching assembled.thanks.
What incredible manual dexterity, every time I learn something new.
Years of practice
Yeah. I spotted the tongue in groove maker thing on the table saw tray thingy (I forget the correct term); literally a tiny piece of wood, and all that is needed to make the perfect corners on the box. Super impressed.
I hope these get marketed to school woodshops. What an incredible opportunity for the youth to get involved and make a toolbox. Win win.
When I hear that big bandsaw start up I realize just how easily it would cut my 14in Powermatic in half.
Love it Jimmy !
That's nice that you think about projects for kids with parental assistance. I hope you can do more like this.
8:00 Hah, I really like the "Keep All Ten" on your pushsticks! And I also find it very ironic that one of them is missing the pinky… 😁
I love this tool box. The addition of the "push through" drawer is a great addition. You can set it down and have access to the drawer from either side. The possibilites and uses are endless. Thanks again my friend!
Jimmy makes the finger joints look so easy.
Cool, nice and simple. I like the contrast on the plywood edges and the drawer.
The cutting capacity of that bandsaw is measured in miles. It enormous.
I was thinking the same thing! That tool is a beauty.
Once again Jimmy makes us all believe we can do anything.
Thank you for the video Mr. Diresta.

For me it was my dad's red metal toolbox. I still have it and it makes me think of him every time I reach into it for a socket.
This video is focused and satisfying. It's a testament to so much of your work that has the ability to pass along knowledge without having to use words. Thank you Jimmy!

Nice classic tool tote, like the extra slide tool drawer, good addition.
Now that is what craftsmanship is all about, from the mind, hand made from a line drawing and the skills in your hands keeping man and in the loop, 👍
Hello Jimmy! As usual, great work! Thank you for sharing your experience.
My Grandpa had a similar toolbox. It is like you said. It just feels right.
Just love all your woodwork and how you show the step by step building of every masterpiece. Thank you so much.
Great tip using the file to square up the box joints. I love that bandsaw joinery 👍👍
Love seeing those Carter Guides in use. I have used them on all my saws since I installed the first set on a Powermatic 20 inch bandsaw we were converting to a friction saw back in 88.
That is a cool box to keep all my oil paints and brushes in all together. I am forever missing some of them.
Great little project. Lots of jigsaw work though. Dovetail cuts are endless! Nice way to pay homage to your Grandfather.
Bottom drawer is a brilliant idea. Thank you so much!

A toolbox for the ages and with the perfect amount of Diresta innovation. 👊🏻
Great idea adding the extra drawer! This should give people inspiration to mod your flat pack tool box.
I thought it was repost, but the knife and blade at the end reveal the news, Nostalgic! Congratulations Jimmy. I have a huge appreciation for your videos in this format. 🇧🇷🇧🇷
nunca é apenas uma caixa de ferramentas!!!! sempre é uma Super Caixa de Ferramentas!!!! Linda parabéns
Good work, follows good tool box, just the natural way of things. Thanks for sharing!
Father and son working together that’s awesome.👍
Удовольствие смотреть на Вашу работу. Браво мастеру!
Remember making a similar one as a 1st year carpenter apprentice. Lasted for years on the job.
Not everyone has a coping saw you know! 🤪😋
Great build and a lovely story about your grandfather. Thanks for continuing to make awesome projects!
At first I didn't notice the peg and I thought you were eyeballing those finger joints. I was like that is some mad skill!

Обалденный огромный круглошлифовальный гриндер!!! Здорово!

Now I'm off to make a 6-pack caddy with a drawer for a bottle opener. You da man, Jimmy!
That’s one hell of a bandsaw 👍
Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Jimmy. When my grandfather passed, we were helping pack up his garage and I found his old tool box. Looked almost identical to yours. Means a great deal to me. Thanks again. Cheers.

Might as well be CNC, because you are a MACHINE, Jimmy! That is a lovely box.
Very cool! I wish the box you had for sale also had the drawer in it like the one you built for the video.
Awesome build!
you are very capricious, greetings from São Paulo Capital Brazil
seeing the white pencil, in the fingers of Jimmy's left hand while he sawed handle mortices with his right, took me back 50 years and working with my father. his was a lit cigarette

I would buy the cut sheet to help the channel.
Jimmy is more precise with the bandsaw than my CNC
Complimenti progetto fantastico. Saluti dall'Italia
THE bandsaw master. Still.
Great job. What would be cool is a sit down between yourself and Adam Corrola just on your approach to problem solving.
I was on w Adam last year fun guy
More old school - great 👍🏻
