- Living off the land takes a lot of time, effort, experience and knowledge and this past year brought me a few steps closer to my goal of providing 90% of my food from hunting, fishing, foraging, growing, raising, cooking and preserving. Now that I have systems in place and good locations to gather from the wild and the garden, preserving food for long term off-grid storage is my next greatest challenge.

I remember when this channel had like 700k subs and around 900k Shawn was hoping he would get to 1 mil, now we about to get to 2 mil

I remem beginning watching him when he had just under 50k or less. He was hunting/fishing/bush crafting i guess you call it. The quality of his photography & videography captured my attn., esp since he was from CAN. I have relatives there. Then he began his outhouse & then started on his cabin,etc. His creativity & intelligence is amazing not to mention the fact everything he does is excellent in quality! I can see his subs going even higher. If not, ppl just dont know what theyre missing!!! Cheers to ya Shawn! 🤗🍻

I find it astounding that you go out, hunt for food, pull the feathers, singe it, build a fire, and make a gourmet meal just for yourself. You remind me of my oldest son. When I’m alone, I open a can.

Wouldn't I just love a man who can build things, is self-sufficient, logs his own timber, catches/raises his own food and can cook! How much wonderful is here in one man? The skills he possesses will stand the test of time and allow him to survive anywhere. This is great to watch. Thank you so much for the rerun. What I love the most is the lighting of fires in order to cook a meal. Truly uplifting.

Shawn produces two types, with & w/o commentary. I too like the ambiant shows, the white noise effect it has on me puts me to sleep in my chair everytime.😏 Not that it's boring...just the affect of every YT vid that is ambiant.

Have you ever considered writing a book on all the things you can make to survive in nature? Plants, salves, tools, drinks, construction. Even an outdoor survival cookbook!!It is amazing how much you know. If you ever get time to write!!! You keep so very busy always

Trust me; he has all the time he needs. Such a glorious life! I just wish I had the strength and patients. To me, I'd be scared at night and don't wait for food to come around.

This is a bit bittersweet, and I didn't even live there.
The new place has it's own unique spirit, and I'm looking forward to the videos you will post from there. But even I miss this old place.
Man, this is great. I am following you since ages. This is, what life should be. Not just a desire, 99,99% of us will never be able experience.
Instead we're running our jobs to make money and hope being able to pay for vacation once a year.
If i had a chance, i would instantly switch my current life for something similar.
Yet here I sit in Germany, where i'm not even allowed to stay over night in a forest if it does not belong to me.
Watching these videos is pure joy and keeps me sane. Keep it up and never stop!

People may give a thumbs down for many reasons. A lot of followers may like to see only NEW CONTENT. SJ seems to have nothing going on this time of year, not sure, none of my business.. I find a lot of TH-cam channels keep posting titbits of previous Videos. Easy money, especially for someone like SJ who is so well liked by 1.7 million plus subscribers. I also believe a lot of SJ's followers may not like to see the slaughter of animals, especially when one has the means to buy protein in meat form from grocery stores or local butchers.Thats a choice a subscriber can make and shouldn't be judged for having issues, or being a heathen or labeled unhappy. Usually people who judge and chose to be abusive to someone who doesn't agree with their thinking, get temporary joy criticizing someone who is not part of your" herd mentality thinking". SJ's channel brings joy and escapism to so many people, for their own personal reasons that don't need too be judged. Just LIVE And LET LIVE. Theres enough hate going on in the world , don't bring it here. A simple Thumbs down is nothing in the grand scheme of the TH-cam world. Understand its just a business.

Thank you, Shawn, for this documentary of your bushcraft living, hunting and what you eat. When I saw you with that turkey on the table, taking off the feathers, I imagined how I would have to take a few deep breaths before starting to prepare the bird for dinner. I know I COULD DO IT, but I'd have to let go of the resistance toward seeing the reality of it, unfamiliar with slaughtering due to city life and buying meat ready to put in the pan. I've always felt that this way of living, foraging, hunting, for one's food, for the family or tribe, is the honest way proper.
I'm sure that spending more time in the wilderness, like you've done already for quite a number of years, and provide for oneself, shelter, warmth, and food, helps to grow into it more, with ease and confidence. And to use the feathers, the parts of an animal that aren't edible, is awesome. Never let any useful material go to waste, in those conditions, isn't it? I so love the creative part of living self-reliant, inventiveness

SHAWN & OUR CALI !!! This is Living the DREAM LIFE OUT THERE !!! I love this !!! Have been learning the skills of making Greek Yogurt plus cottage cheese plus cheese for myself !!! I love the way you eat and keep on going !!! I do a lot of this myself now !!! Have solar here in the house for electrical use !!! It lights the way for me to & far the way !!! I dug a well in the back yard also for myself !!! It is good water but I use it mainly for watering the garden !!!

I love the production technique, keeping the viewer totally there with you, the shoots must take so much time, and data storage would be an endless hassle. Your edit skills and choices of sound, perfect. It is no wounded you have a following, doing the lifestyle is one thing but the unseen story must be immense. Fabulous work to you and your family including the dog.

Def right i wish i knew how to edit add sound and think of how im gonna portray all the shots and clips into a show bc we started a lil thing on fb called on the road with kellie keith and bail and wanted to do a utube videos but theres alot to it. We have learned a great deal from watching...what a wonderful life... we live in the country.. but other as remote. We had 2 moose stay for a couple of days. They try to raid our vegetable patch...God Bless..

This way of life, self-reliant, working with hands, heart and brains, builds the best possible appetite, I believe. Watching the good food, meat, vegetables, etc. being prepared on a good fire, it's the best fuel for working muscles and a cheerful sense of health 🌞
