I love what the channel has developed into. I haven't missed a single video yet. I still love going back to the older episodes too. Your camera work and editing have seriously improved. That new outdoor kitchen is going to be beautiful!!!!
Thank you, Shawn. Stating the obvious, here: you give your heart and soul to everything you do in a way that attracts 2.09M not counting the viewers. Your influence is an extraordinary gift. I am so grateful.
Shawn it was awesome to get out trout fishing with you and the guys. Appreciate the explanation of the reasons you live with the Wilderness over a farm style homestead for both freedom and necessity. What a great video. 🍻
Im always amazed at all the work you do alone, and how neat & clean & well groomed you always look. This build is my favorite place its got almost everything already😅
Your pink fleshed trout reminded me of a time when I was 13 or so, I tre trekked about 4 miles down this creak and back with a few worms. I finally came upon a deep spot that yielded me 3 lovely brookies, ( my first). They were about 12-14 inches. When I got them home and proceeded to clean them, I found they had the pinkish flesh, exactly like yours. My dad wondered if they could be salmon but of course there was no way. They were mighty tastey, as I recall. I love your fishing trips. I would love to see the moment they strike though. Maybe next time you can keep in that part, focusing on the whole Rod. After your video, I watched the one by the Robinettes. Fantastic. I can at least watch what I can’t do anymore. Had my 4 th back surgery and it left me worse off. At nearly 72, I can at least, still enjoy your fabulous videos. Thank you, Shawn.
That was Awesome mr James!! I’m 48 and I felt like a little kid on that Bear 🐻 hunt. I never saw to pick up a blood trail like that in the bush and in the fading light. And to then see the bear wow. I imagine the delicious bear steaks and berry fat. And the beautiful pelt. Your A MAN !!! Mr James. Thank you 🙏
Both of these gentleman must have been at one time in a great position where they have earned big money. And now have decided to turn their back on that hectic life and find pleasure in this simple way of life . But What do they talk about? Do they talk about the conflict in Ukraine ? It needs a lot of money for this kind of life. What would interest me what tools are they wish they had. Many people cannot afford this luxury. I wish they well and thank them for showing this other side to life. Most people are stuck in Citylife.
I hope you, your family and fellow Canadians are ok with the fire in your area. We’re feeling the effects here in NYS so I can’t imagine being in near the fires in Canada, sending prayers the stop soon.
My friend, you live a beautiful life. Congratulations. Appreciate the fact that you can do it, not everyone would be able to do it, but you got that gift from God! You have a great four-legged friend, devoted and faithful. It's amazing. You have nice friends with whom you share this lifestyle. You are blessed! Cherish every day! Each one, even the one full of work, is rare and will never be repeated. Include your family and people around you with this beauty.
Your synopsis of homesteading such as raising pigs or ducks n chickens compared to letting the forest provide for you through forrest mgmnt makes more sense for you than someone else. Great video.
Thank you, Shawn. While I was watching the thought occurred to me that this is what my dad's Mansion in Glory looks like. I can't wait to go canoeing with him again.😭
As always, well done, Shawn James. Thank you. Now, then. About those pesky mosquitoes. Place burlap, dried rosemary, and dried lavender (herbs in equal amounts) in coffee cans, set alite, and placed around the area you're working. Burlap burns slowly, and the smoke and herb aroma will keep insects at bay. Cans get hot, so best place them where you want them initially and leave them alone.
Mr. James, I want to thank you and the Calli Girl for taking us a long on your journey. With you many of us get to escape the hustle and bustle of living in the city. We get to relax and see extremely beautiful country. Thank you and have a really great weekend. See you and Calli next time at the cabin.
I love this video. My father would have totally enjoyed watching your videos. He loved the outdoors and loved fishing, hunting, and all that the outdoors offered. Unfortunately he didn’t live in the current age of TH-cam. Loved this video. Thank you for sharing!!!
Your buddies still snoring while your making fire for coffee is so funny, I can relate 100%. I’m always first up on fishing or hunting trips enjoying the great outdoors.
Being from New York, I can understand the black fly season Yikes, Missing our annual fishing trip to Indian Lake NY and Moose river. Never grow tired of the beauty of nature! Great work you are doing very enjoyable to watch.
NYS news talk about the Canada’s Wildfire, Things are still burning actively in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories and now Ontario, are you concern?
I just loved everything about this video. The videography work on the bear hunting was incredible. Thank you for sharing all your fabulous videos of the Canadian wilderness with us. Every bit of it is amazing footage that a lot of us viewers would not otherwise ever get to see.
Hi Shawn and Cali! I let out a "YES"! when I looked to see how long the video was. Your videos just make my Friday nights. Now I'm settling in with my Chaga tea and raw honey 🍯 to watch. Thank you for sharing some of yours and Cali's life with us. ❤❤
The only TH-camr I follow that packs a cast iron frying pan for a fishing/camping trip. Good to see you getting out in the wilderness for some fishing! The timber frame project looks like it will have some challenges, and will be interesting to follow. All the best!
Shawn, heeding a lot of warnings from both your channel and learning about being more frugal and ending up with many homemade items from another channel called Acre homestead, this 76 year old has amassed two years of shelf stable foods. Today I am scoring chicken legs at $.83 a lb! Chicken broth and canned chicken going on the shelf by tomorrow! My sons and their families are profiting from this also….. thank you for making me see the light!
This was such a fantastic video. When I was young my dad would take us to all the Rod & Gun club meetings and we watched videos like this. So wonderful.
I love watching you're fishing trips it brings back a lot of good memories unfortunately we moved away from Kanora Ont in 1956, to BC but I did spent many a Summer back there with my grandparents and doing a lot of fishing trips like the one you're showing here. May you have good weather and good fishing always god bless you and your family.
Things I'm glad I did not see in this video: A big, round, battery-powered clock nailed to a tree. The massasauga rattlesnake of a couple of years ago. Roaring fire and you guys sitting around eating a salad. You have an excellent sense of what to put in a scene and what to leave out. Gracias por tu video. RT sends, envía, Colonia Centro Histórico, Puebla, México.
Long ago I lived in bad mosquito country for 6 weeks in the summer. Being a bit uncertain about how safe the repellants were long term, I got to putting it on the brim of my hat similar to yours. It works, although the bugs buzzing inches from your face can still be very annoying. There used tobe a Jungle Juice, 90% DEET or something ridiculously hig like that, that worked great. Today I would add a mermthin treated shirt.
So glad you and Cali took time off and went fishing. Am always interested in the scenery….how relaxing it is. Glad you are making progress with the next building project…looking good!
Simply AWESOME video Shawn! It's almost like we were right there with you. What an amazing artist that you have become! I can't wait to get back out into the Wildness!
There's that sweet girl !!! Out fishin' with dad. Gettin' the boat all muddy. Always ready to help. Nice eating sized bear too ! Congrats on taking it with your new longbow too! That'll make it taste extra good!
IN THE SPRING we speared suckers (6:28) and chucked them out near our cabin for an orphaned bear to eat. After a few years of fattening, we harvested that same bear. My brother and I hauled it on our little red wagon downhill about a 1/2 mile behind our camp, though it was large and bulky, and kept rolling off. Dad was proud of us boys. Though my sisters were none too happy. That hat is becoming a trademark. Some woodsmen never leave home without it. I noticed you also wear yours inside (54:36). My uncle was never seen without his. He claimed it was the reason why he never went bald. Of course, who could tell otherwise?
Thanks Shawn. Alittle bit of everything in this one! Saw Jim's video. You guys caught alot of fish! Glad you got to go out with the boys. That had to be a hoot. Nice bear too. Bummer you have to get that out of the woods. Heck with a big one, to hard to get out! Cali was funny.
Some really cool outdoor footage!!! More progress on the outdoor kitchen is encouraging. We’re all glad to see your feeling well again!!! 🙏🏻 Cali obviously en-JOYED the swimming and fishing as well…..
SJ is the OG,....just admire his appreciation for nature and his passion for living in unison with it. His life is one of complete Freedom,....enjoy the journey SJ. Regards from South Africa
My favourite part waking up on Saturday morning here in Australia and watching your week of adventure Shawn. It was good to see you hanging out with Jim and your buddies too.
Thanks for sharing all the beauty out in the wilderness and the skills it take to live the best way of life! Congrats on the bear with the new bow! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
Thank you for showing viewers that changing your circumstances begins with moving forward one-step-at-a-time! Concerned about you and your families safety from the current forest fires 🙏🏻
Easy, lol. You’re amazing and talented in all you do! I can’t imaging designing, peeping all the wood and materials, and building all your homestead is easy. I can’t even imagine attempting it!
When I was about 13 years old in Texas my uncle took me to Kickapoo Lake to set out trotline at night. He put me out on an island while he and another uncle work in the boat setting out the lines. Loved it. I captured the essence of this story in my book, "Michael's Eyes." An excerpt from the book. "When that job was finished, it was well after midnight. Horace said, “Before we start setting out the snag line, let’s go over to that island that we passed coming out here and make some coffee. We might find a couple of rocks that we can use without having to go all of the way across the lake.” With that, he started the motor and steered the boat to an island that was a few hundred yards further into the lake. As they arrived at the island, Ross, who was riding in the front of the boat, jumped into the shallow water and pulled the boat onto the bank. Michael could see that there were several large rocks lying at the edge of the water on the island. It was obvious that it would not be necessary to go across the lake for the rocks. There was also a lot of drift wood; so, they could build a fire to make the coffee. Michael jumped from the boat and began gathering wood for the fire, as Horace and Ross found two large rocks to use for the snag line and loaded them into the boat. When Michael had made a large pile of wood, Ross used his carbide lantern to light it and the fire was quickly roaring. Horace dipped the coffee pot into the lake to fill it with water and added a couple of handfuls of coffee grounds. He placed a large rock into the firepit and put the pot on it, such that the fire heated it on all sides. After about twenty minutes the coffee was boiling."
Only Cali can go from needing a bath, to getting a bath and more muddy than when she started in two minutes. Beats all my dogs over the years, including my water spaniel. Besides the owl, what was making the loud bird call? It echoed through the mist, adding to the beauty of the place. You picked the best camping spots. Most of us are appreciating it; except the friend snoring in the background at 41:20. You tired the poor fellow out, Shawn. LOL
It has to b the most wonderful life building your home by yourself such a great appreciate for nature and love of your surroundings , As you inspire many people . Your are a awesome builder May God Bless you and your family Always!
Perhaps yours was the first cabin building video I watched. I made my living as a carpenter since 1969. I really like the way you do things & something you don`t know you figure it out. The internet is overflowing with guys thinking they are you......well they are not........peace to you.
You seem to be in good health after the fishing trip with your buddies. I think that is what was required in order to get back with a fresh attempt at your outdoor/indoor kitchen extension. now that you're in good health I'm anxious to see the continuation of work on the kitchen extension. Good hunting.
Another great episode, Shawn. I do enjoy this 'less talking' format, and I'm also aware of your 'SJ' channel, and have visited it and watched a few of your speaking episodes. I have heard you speak of your belief in your responsibility of Stewardship to your local land, the Forest, and the Flora, Fauna, and Mycelia living therein. I applaud your level of commitment to the Land. May all be well, happy, and at peace.
Another relaxing afternoon of bliss watching your amazing ventures in the beautiful wilderness! From accross the pond (UK) I appreciate viewing your mini movies, showing breathtaking and spectacular scenery. Being an artist, I love it all! Thank you so much.....
Tom and I Brenda heard about the fires in Canada, please let us know that you and Kale are safe. So happy your feeling better from that bacterial sickness. We re just amazed of how much you know about building and all you build on your own. Love your utubes. Be safe have a. Great day! 😁
Hey Shawn great seeing you back on the outdoor kitchen? Addition? 😊 I am hearing about those wildfires in Canada hopefully far away from your homestead. We are having Red Flag days with smoke overcasting the sky. It’s a ominous bright orange color. Hope they get control of these fires fast. My brother in law is a firefighter in Iowa who went to help, he actually lives for this type of fire control work. All the very best!
Thank you for letting me and my Husband see your Wonderful lifestyle. We look forward to your video.its become something that we look forward too .Love to you and yours. 🇬🇧👍

Hi Shawn, the more I watch your videos the more I'm in love with your way of life... really! That's a fact, got many regrets to haven't did the same 40 years ago, keep going on your wonderful life and take care of you and your family.😉
Your wife should be happy to have a man like you. I've been watching you for the past two years and you are amazing. There is very few men like you in this life time.
@Lisa Forte I thought his wife had career in city raising kids etc taking care of house. Shy would be good I could not do all that work for myself. Doing the cabin self reliant for wife and kids would drive me to work hard. Glad if they are able to see eachother more than a weekend a month lol
Yeaaaaaah my show’s on!
I always look forward to Friday 😊
Me too !! 👍

Unconditional love, unwavering loyalty and complete adoration. You’re lucky to have Callie. She’s pretty lucky to have you too.
Awesome footage all round especially the sunrise and sunsets. Peaceful and serene, just how it should be. Take care, be safe. ❤ Dorset, UK

Cali enjoys going on adventures, she loves being with you , a real pro
Tom and I Brenda heard about the fires in Canada, please let us know that you and Kale are safe. So happy your feeling better from that bacterial sickness. We re just amazed of how much you know about building and all you build on your own. Love your utubes. Be safe have a. Great day! 😁
Hey Shawn great seeing you back on the outdoor kitchen? Addition? 😊
I am hearing about those wildfires in Canada hopefully far away from your homestead. We are having Red Flag days with smoke overcasting the sky. It’s a ominous bright orange color. Hope they get control of these fires fast. My brother in law is a firefighter in Iowa who went to help, he actually lives for this type of fire control work.
All the very best!
Doing all this work alone is amazing!

OMG! A new friend for Cali? How precious. That would be wonderful!
Shawn has the best lifestyle that every man dreams of💯 but I know it comes with its hard work and effort
It's nice to go fishing with the buddies, but I can tell you're happiest when you are alone. Thanks for another great video!!👍
Your wife should be happy to have a man like you. I've been watching you for the past two years and you are amazing. There is very few men like you in this life time.
Idk how He does it all alone, he Rarely gets to see his Wife.
@@stephenkennedy9322 I think she is camera shy.
@Lisa Forte I thought his wife had career in city raising kids etc taking care of house. Shy would be good I could not do all that work for myself. Doing the cabin self reliant for wife and kids would drive me to work hard. Glad if they are able to see eachother more than a weekend a month lol
Spring has sprung, lot of things to do.
"Wanna go fishing?" ... "Is the sky blue Dad?" 😊
