    What I have been taught today. Turn green oak into shape before drying. the versatility of the Proxon long neck carver. When to leave colour OFF and leave wood natural ( I do like Oak grain). Thanks Stewart for a great video again....

    I had to watch this video on mute. The wife is asleep early tonight and I do not want to wake her. So, I was momentarily distracted and missed how you managed to get such a beautiful color. That was when I realized the color I was in wonderment with was the jam chuck. Oh, yeah that turquoise on black was nice also. Thanks for another great video Stewart...

    Stewart, as always you can take a simple box and take it into the sublime with your use of color. I do think as a child you were deprived the use of crayons and chalk. You are certainly making up lost time in that arena. Good work my man.

    That’s actually quite nice. Texturing and colour works really well.
    Love it that you still had all the natural wood in too. Not so sure about the centre raised but on the lid and the base looked like you had a mortise on it rather than being flat and smooth.
    Really enjoyable video as usual though!

    • @stewartfurini
      @stewartfurini  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Paul - you're not the only one to pick out those features. I did keep the tenon on top (though it was finish turned so it couldn't be gripped on and then tried to mirror this with an impression on the bottom and underside of the lid...might need a bit more finesse! Glad you enjoyed the video. Cheers!

    Agreed Stewart, boxes are fun and there's an endless combination of themes and forms. For me, the challenge is not getting a good fit for the lid, but remaining so for any length of time! I used Jo Sonja paints for the first with Alan Maggs, last month, they are surely the best. I do love the English oak but it can be a bit bland, so blinging it up is a good idea. Thanks for sharing this Stewart!

    You know I would never laugh at you about not being subtle. Giggle perhaps, but never a full-throated laugh.
    In this case I think you actually did it. I love the texture and the hint of color over the black. BTW, a functional small box should have a relatively thick base to provide stability. I'm sure someone will love it.

    Hi Stewart, Quite new to your channel and having just bought Jo Sonja's paints found this video to be very good for me. Can you use black spray paint instead of the Ebonizing Lacquer?. Cheers, Huw

    Hello Stewart,
    I like your box. I like oak. The texture is nicely rustic and the colouring takes it out of the farmhouse and into the lounge. Is this a nod to iridescence, or are the layered strips still on? Perhaps try metallics first. They are very similar and the more subdued coppers and bronzes for lower levels could avoid the need to try dulling down lower level iridescent strips. Maybe iridescent on top of metaliic and leave the black out altogether. Regards, Glenn. :-)

    • @stewartfurini
      @stewartfurini  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers, Glen - glad you like it. The ribbon strips are still on - soon to reappear if nothing else gets in the way...

    Hi Stewart
    Subtle colouring is not an expression I would use to describe your work normally. You may even have heard some laughter when you mentioned the phrase. However, when we see the end results we have to acknowledge that you have indeed achieved the desired effect. Very nice and go to the top of the class.
    One question, at about 6.55 in the video the box seemed to go a coppery gold colour, please explain as You confused my 70 years plus brain.
    Cheers
    Roger

    • @stewartfurini
      @stewartfurini  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can do really subtle sometimes! The answer to your confusion is an old coloring demo piece used as a jam chuck to reverse the box body so I could take the chucking tenon off...

  • @christigilbertson9039

    Maybe doing the iridescent stuff on the oak color would have been fabulous. I don't care for the black stuff.

    • @stewartfurini
      @stewartfurini  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe, Christi...I've not tried it on bare wood as it gives such a strong contrast over dark colours....will have to have a go! Cheers!

      The iridescent paint only shows up properly if put on a black or other very dark ground. That way the light bounces off the mica particles.
