I love it more when you're working on the tang and because of improper grip of the tongs, you hit the piece too hard and it spins into low earth orbit, whizzing past you face. Yep, its always safe in the forge, no hazards at all.
@@aaronyoung8301 I love when I drop a piece of hot steel and it lands on something that I really don't want melting under the heat, so my quick thinking tells me to golfer swing my tongs and send the thing flying instead of just picking it up, mainly because II know I'd take WAY too long trying to pick it up with the friggen tongs in the first place.
Tgis was a great job you did exactly what they explained on that workss channel and you exibited your skill very well o love the vids keep em coming sir
Fantastic video and great job. I always like watching your videos because you still do as much as you can the old fashioned way and still turn out a great piece.
Borax. It works as flux to prevent oxygen from forming iron oxide on the surface of the steel and messing with the forge welding. Makes things a lot easier when forge welding essentially.
Hey, i'm wandering, what are you doing at 9:08 ? I don't think I've ever seen anybody doing a similar thing, i'm curious x) Anyways, that's a gorgeous piece of work, as always ^^
I was applying a thin layer of ''clay'' (it's really fireplace sealant but it does the same thing) it helps protect the steel a wee bit when quenching. There is not really a need for it when oil quenching, more common to do with a water quench but I thought I'd try it out just for the heck of it. Thank you!
According to that works you should shape the back of a knife before the blade, and they recommend tapering the insert so it's wider at the front of the insert in order to compensate for the front of the blade being narrower, at least that was my understanding, I've never made a blade in my life but here I am trying to tell someone how to do it.

Subtle yet awesome, professional yet educational, your no-nonsense honesty and work ethic is much appreciated sir.
Thank you!
Don't you just love when you're chiseling something in two and it just rocket shots apart

Finally I found a good enough master to inspire my work on
This guy is how I learned to be a blade smith
@@tyreldalzell1489 awesome to hear :)
Far from a master but thank you!
I think it’s amazing how you can take a chunk of metal and turn it into something like that. You are extremely talented! Love your videos.
Nice mate, looking forward to having you back properly
Thanks man! Well I got a workshop yesterday so should be up and running soon! :)

Except for tapering the high carbon insert.
Nicely done san mai kitchen knife.🔪🎸.
Bon soir. Vous avez fait un très bon travail. J'aime bien regarder vos vidéos. Merci.
Fantastic looking craftsmanship, please keep giving us the videos. Very inspiring !!!!!
I'd love to get busy in the kitchen with this. Awesome job!

hehe glad to hear so! Thank you!
@@MakeNCreate no worries, I'm really enjoying all these forge welding project you've been doing
Hello, that is a nice knife, i like it a lot. Does the coffee etch last, or does it rub off with use.
Regards Chris.
The contrast and darkness has dulled a bit with use but it stays fairly well. Thank you Chris!
@@MakeNCreate I’m also interested with Damascus, does the pattern stay after sharpening? I don’t know because I’ve never owned a Damascus knife
@@oscar-dl7hv it stays fairly well.
Another great way to cool down a blade slowly is but it in a bucket of wood ash, it also prevents scaling on your metal

What kind of coals do you use

Hi, How are you?
To go the same way unswerving - especially for yourself. ^O^
damn top notch work as always bro. what grit do you end up taking that wood to and what are using in that jar to put a finish on it?
Raw linseed oil in the jar
Think it took this one up to 600 grit. It's raw linseed oil. Thank you!
Hi, I have a question. What is that white powder you put on the iron at 02.45 and for what purpose do you put it?
borax. Oxygen barrier, prevents the formation of scale. Helps with forge welding.
Bom dia bom trabalho
Where do you get the coal from?
👍
Why did you cut off the corner of the edge steel at 1:00?
سكين ممتازه جدا انا محتاج واحده كم السعر لو سمحت
Can you please make an Spanish Cutlass from Assassin's Creed Black Flag? :)
Why you clay it before quenching? Do you think that was nesessary?
It's to reduce the chance of cracking during a water or fast oil quench.
Awesome looking blade, fine work, but I have one question (as I am someone with little to no knowledge in blacksmithing): why the coffee?
for the etch, i know
It darkens the carbon steel
Like Tyrel said: It helps further darken the carbon steel without being an aggressive etchant like the ferric chloride. Thank you very much!
Did you go in forged in fire
Ew
Nope.
Then go yuou you have talent
If you use coffee to etch does it have to be hot???
Hot coffee will work faster but cold coffee does the job too... just slower.
@@MakeNCreate Nice to know cheers for that.
What is the role of Borax when applied to the iron?
It melts turning into a glaze that acts as an oxygen barrier so the steel doesn't oxidize and form scale, which can prevent a good forge weld.
@@MakeNCreate Good explanation👍. Thank you
Forgeron en short... rare..!!
實在是看不懂= =~為什麼已經冷掉了還加入硼砂?
Ho...yes.
What powder do you use? You never used something like this before.
And, are you not going to move another country anymore??

can you try and make a sword ?!
at one point yes.
Why do you use such large coal?
@keith moore must be sold for coal stoves I would have to guess. Personally I’d break into smaller chunks but whatever works!
yeah
