      David, This is by far the best suggestion I have seen for organizing passwords. I have tried 1Password but became frustrated. Maintaining a handwritten list is cumbersome. And trying to manage things by viewing passwords via Safari preferences does not work well. Exporting to Numbers (Excel) works beautifully...especially to find missing fields and duplicate fields. Corrections are easy and then just import them back into Safari. Delightful.

      Hi David I tried you method .. unfortunately couldn’t reach the conclusion required… my iMac is old an I’m using High Sierra is there another way to reach my desired effect ….?

      I followed all your instructions but but when I tried to import the updated password list, I got a message saying "Safari could not import passwords from the CSV file because it is missing column labels". I now ended up with all my passwords erased from my browser. Please help. When I open the file, I can see the column labels.

    That password list is sitting around un-protected where? Remember that each re-used or "bad" password has to be changed at every single account where it is currently in use.

    David, unfortunately I am unable to follow your recommendations. I am unable to export my password data. I use an iPad Pro latest version. It doesn’t allow that function. I also have, but rarely use, an older iMac, 2010. Which similarly does not allow. Greyed out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    I do not recommend keeping your passwords in an unencrypted text format like a CSV. This may be good for importing into a password manager but I wouldn't do it into a browser and I wouldn't keep the file, as it is a huge security risk to have your passwords in plain text.

    You lost me on the part were You first made a copy of the same file. But then preceded to merge the copy You made with its self. In my mind that makes no sense because. Now You have made duplicates of duplicates in Your spread sheet I just can not grasp that in my mind. The other part were You lost me was. We’re You said something about clicking on the ones with data only on the spread sheet. I have no idea what You did there you lost me. The other is why did You have to change all the passwords when You talk about changing them. By just typing a bunch of nonsense next to each one. Then some how making that Your new passwords for all You websites that was so confusing to me. To truly be onset with you. I was lost from beginning to end on pretty much everything. Other then were to go on each browser and what to do to make the copies of the folders. But after the very beginning I was lost on pretty much everything. But then again I have learning disabilities so I am extremely slow at comprehend things. Could You do a nother video on this but do it way slower and explain why you did what You did slower. Thanks.

    much simpler method - let Firefox import from other browsers and then export one file to excel for editing or printing. CSV is simple text but Firefox is encrypted so it's safer and it's a much faster method.

    OK. This is good advice. But it is a lot of work. But when you add or change any password you must be sure that any changes are incorporated into each browser and your list. This is a pain and frequently will be forgotten.

    David - Excellent job! A much needed tutorial for nearly all of us (present company included)! At the beginning of your video, you mentioned other password managers. In addition to storing passwords in Safari, I also have some in LastPass. Is there a way to export passwords from that app as well?

    • @TechTalkAmerica
      @TechTalkAmerica  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So glad you enjoyed it. In regards to your question about LastPass the only way they allow you to export the data is by logging into your account via the web. They supposedly send it to you via e-mail, but when I tried it, I ran into problems. Could have been an isolated incident.

    You forgot to preface your intro with the disclaimer: This video is for only for people so technically inept that you've been letting your browser store your passwords rather using the best solution, a password manager, such as Bitwarden.
