That is likely to be the most thoughtful gift I have ever seen. You should be proud of what you have done. Your story and stories will live on for a very long time. Bravo!
Well, that was a surprise. After seeing the first part, I was expecting it to be a gift for your wife. But why not for your son. That is what is called an heirloom piece and will see a 100 years at least.
an exceptionally dedicated task to make this trunk.. an apprentice's toil to become a journeyman was to build and house all the tools of the carpenters trade, and here you are, making something to bequeath to your heir. fuckin right-on man.
I admire your attention to detail. Especially @ 5:12 where the newspaper you use has a reference to TH-cam…very clever and humorous. Thank you for your extraordinary work and for taking the time to film this, for our entertainment. Cheers!
Amazing work! While watching the first video I wondered what you would do about the nails penetrating. Did you just cut them off or did you peen them as well? Peening them all seems a little ... much, but will they hold fine without?
Hi, thanks very much, and great question - I had originally planned on riveting them all as I wanted to stay true to the vintage methods (I don't think the modern ones are) but that was not possible partly because of access/space - in the end I riveted the handle - it needs this strength, and riveted some of the accessible Belt nails but just cut the others as seemed overkill and unnecessary. I clinched the closures as that was also important and some selective key base frame ones too - I wanted to film more of the riveting but I just couldn't get the lights, the camera and the hammer in there while balancing the trunk on those aluminium plates that acted as a counterforce!! I managed to film the lid stay - exact same method as that. Choosing to make a half size version of the LV trunk ended up causing me all sorts of difficulty - the larger trunk would have been easier in the long run! I was thinking about doing a voice over on a shorter version of the video as I learned quite a lot on this project and wondered if that might be of interest?
Yesterday I was sitting in an airport thinking about how ugly my luggage was. Today this pops up on TH-cam. I'm nearly certain they're reading minds or something... Beautiful work
2:31 THIS! Repairing those guides and riveting is a nightmare to position the block when the trunk is 4ft long 😅 finding this information is hard and using almost exclusively the wrong tools!
Yes I agree - I asked my son to help me out as everything was moving all over the place! You really need what the french call a 'bouterolle' - it's a heavy weight tool that can butts up against the head of the nail- that you can't seem to buy anywhere these days - there are lightweight ones on Amazon but they are not good enough and not necessarily the correct size. Also the nails have solid brass heads but actually have a steel shank which is very strong but much harder to rivet. I am used to riveting copper not steel but I got there in the end by placing those alu blocks under the head..what do you do? Just wondering? cheers
Just curious cause the video doesn't show. The brass nails sticking through to the inside. Did you just bend them over or did you clip them flush? Thank you great video.
Hi there, thanks for watching, I answered this already in an earlier comment but to save you scrolling - mainly a combination of either riveting or clinching depending upon access and/or the need for strength (handles)...cheers

Many thanks, that's very kind, all the best

@@boreoff Simply amazing to watch - thank you! And if you are comfortable doing a voiceover while working, I think most of us would enjoy it.
🙏 thanks appreciate it - I did do a short version with a voice over - on my channel if you are interested…cheers
@@boreoff I'll check it out! Thank you :^)
Now that's a tool box!
yes it sure is, he is happy, thanks for watching, cheers
Loved it, but the first half you showed bit by bit second was cut short it seemed.

Great craftsmanship and good video work too!
Glad you liked it! Thanks very much. Cheers
Very good work, congratulations!
I would like to see more new videos from you. 😊
Thanks very much, that's kind, I am planning a few more but as you know it all takes time and not my day job 😊
How did you finish all the nails on the inside before installing the liner?
either riveted or clinched depending on access as limited space, cheers
Thats some tool box
Yesterday I was sitting in an airport thinking about how ugly my luggage was. Today this pops up on TH-cam.
I'm nearly certain they're reading minds or something...
Beautiful work
funny I often say the same - spooky sometimes, thanks for watching, cheers
Love it. What a great use of that beautiful trunk - to fill it with beautiful tools - are you those hand planes made by you? Great work.
Thanks appreciated- they are modeled on Krenov’s hand planes and not too difficult to make…good project cheers
Very beautiful work, what did you do with all the nails on the inside? Just cut them?
Thanks 🙏 they are either riveted or clinched - my other video with narration discusses this, cheers
Great legs at 0:33!
Золотые руки!
Thanks 🙏
hi can u tell me where all the locks and hinges and clasps are from please , struggling to find solid brass
www.malle2luxe.fr - he speaks English and restores trunks and sources very good quality hardware in different sizes so ideal...cheers
The choice of newspaper was interesting!
Those tools need a special box.
Do you make these for sale?
afraid not, just for fun, cheers

Those tools should be gold plated, otherwise that chest worth more than the tools. 😂
👍🏻💣
