The video makes it look so easy. Sanding and polishing metal to a mirror polish is hell. Amazing "restoration". Far better finish than the manufacturer ever attempted.
That’s a million dollar work of art. I love espresso (here through following Lance) but my heart broke as coffee started to run through the piece. I wanted it to rest on velvet forever but as John A. Shedd famously said, “A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” Sail on beautiful machine. Amazing.
In my opinion, it's the best you've ever done. You turned an institutional looking beast into something truly beautiful. Adding inside lights was a nice touch.
What a masterpiece! No, the video isn't too long. Yes, I love assembling as well, this part isn't too long and never should be shortened. I'm completely overwhelmed from your phantastic skills. Thanks for showing us this incredible journey and taking us with you! Greets and Prost!, Achim
Wonderful job, just great. As an Italian, it's beautiful to see such a masterpiece restored. One small point: It should be "scaldatazze", and not "scaldatazzi"...
The video wasn't too long, especially for the artwork you created with this restoration. As an Italian and a coffee lover, I thank you for making this E61 so memorable.
The scope and scale of this restoration project is absolutely incredible. You remain one of the best restoration channels on TH-cam; your attention to detail and the quality of your restorations are top notch. Thank you for all your hard work!
If there's anything that I love in a restoration video, it's seeing the process of powder coating. To see how it changes in the oven when it heats up the baking process is just awesome.👍🏽
Several of my TH-cam channels are about specialty coffee (Hoffman, Morgan, Hedrick, European Coffee Trip, Lifestyle Lab, ...) and renovations (My Mechanics, Cool Again, Mister Patina, TysyTube, Old Things Never Die, Not Terrible...) -- well, and also physics and Italian because why not -- so this video was just perfect! Gorgeous! Beautiful! This is a true master work. Loved every minute. What a great Sunday morning. Just hope that others follow the lead!!
As a barista and someone who has rebuilt coffee machines over the years.... I've never ever gone to the extent of rebuilding the boiler or the group head like you have. I honestly did not it was worth it in the beginning but seeing the results at the end and knowing you had people from the home barista forums helping you, I'd happily put that machine through its paces. Absolutely amazing, Dr Beer. This is like "My Mechanics" level. So well executed. It turned out just gorgeous. While the length of the video is longer than your usual, it works just fine for me. Not sure you could have documented that level of intricacy in a shorter length of time. Again, well done. Danke sehr! Sarah
I do so love your videos. I am a repairer (bikes mainly, but also other things, at our local 'Repair Café' ) and they inspire me to do a better job. I go through episodes of depression and hopelessness, (it's a long-term condition) and your videos remind me that if you are methodical, and do one thing at a time as well as you are able, you come up with a result, after much work, of something that is useful and beautiful. So thankyou for that. p.s. I liked your La Pavoni video so much that I went out to look for a 'pre-millenium' Europiccola, but couldn't find one. But the local importer was doing good deals on new ones, so I bought one, and spent a fair bit of money 'tweaking' it to get it back close to how the classics were. It's the best coffee I've ever made! Thankyou again.
I never thought I would someday say I watched a 1 hour video of an espresso machine restoration, but here I am. I really enjoyed seeing you take this machine from a tired old appliance to something truly unique! I have no idea who the gentleman is that you did this for but I do know he'll be ecstatic with how this turned out.
You are just amazing! I have never seen such a talented person like you before. Being able to handle with all of these tools and different steps of working is unbelievable. You are by far my favorite TH-cam channel. Best regards
Not very many projects make me tear up. This one did. The before and after were so stark and gorgeous. Dr Beer, I was unaware of how long this was until you mentioned it at the end. Spending time with people you like is never too long. I was riveted throughout. When you first showed the machine, I had to laugh. I thought "How many espresso machines do they need?" then you said who you were doing this for and my heart melted. What a wonderful thing to do for a friend. The love, care, and fidelity you show are present throughout the whole video. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this wonderful show. Es tut mir leid, dass ich nicht den gesamten Kommentar auf Deutsch verfasst habe. Es war schwer genug, auf Englisch aufzuschreiben, was dieses Video für mich bewirkt hat. Vielen Dank!❤
You are truly a Da Vinci of restoration and creative invention. This is not only art, you are the Rolls Royce of restoration channels. Your videos are never too long, always left wanting more. Bravo, a job most beautifully done.
I consume a LOT of restoration videos and have subscribed to your channel for quite some time. I have to say that rarely does a before/after reveal literally take my breath away, but this one truly did. The transformation was absolutely stunning. I can't imagine the hours you put into this. No, an hour is not too long for a project as complicated as this one must have been. Lance is awfully lucky to have this beautiful machine heading his direction. Nicely done sir. Nicely done.
An incredibly elaborate and professional restoration of a 60-year-old espresso machine. It was a great idea to replace the old plastic parts with wooden controls, giving the whole machine an even higher quality finish. Superbly filmed and finished.👍👍👍 A total work of art that deserves the highest respect! Greetings from: 🇩🇪
Hello Dr Beer. What an amazing video you have gifted us. Even though I am an avid restoration videos watcher and a follower of yours, I started this one thinking I would not watch it in one go. I was glued to the screen from start to finish! The time just flew by. The work itself is possibly one of your best. The attention to detail, planning and execution are amazing. Not to mention the fact you managed to edited it in a very good video. A very big thank you.
Good sir... I am in awe of this! I'd only known the name Ariete as an Italian Army tank. But this restoration was absolutely amazing. Your attention to detail and artistry shames all other restorers. You improved on the original. I see you filed down original casting marks for a smoother finish, and there is lighting in the interior that adds interest to the works. The wood knobs replacing the original Bakelite (?) are quite nice and give a more pleasing and "organic" look. The color scheme you gave it makes it perfect for my kitchen. Blue and gold feature heavily in my kitchen. In fact, I'll give you my address so that you can send it over. LOL. How you managed to understand the complex workings and every part without going mad is beyond understanding. Words fail me. Now, as for your beer review... I've only ever appreciated one Italian beer and that is Peroni, which is a credible lager. This one that you present you did compare to a hefeweizen, which I have never had a taste for. But I do like that you reviewed an Italian beer after this extraordinary restoration of an Italian machine. It was a nice homage. If you ever have a chance, I would like your opinion on Königsbacher Pils from Koblenz which was our standard when I was growing up in the Hunsrück. We had Tucher and Bitburger as well, but Königsbacher was the local favorite. Thank you so very much for this. I hope you enjoy this machine for many years.

Absolute amazing restoration and rebuild. I remember these old machines in cafes & restaurants back in the 60s & 70s they looked so art Deco not just functional but they were a work of art which added to the total cafe atmosphere & culture. No this video is not too long watched every minute.

Damit verschmilzt das Alte mit dem Neuen. Normalerweise wäre mir 1h zu viel, aber hier habe ich mir alles von Anfang bis Ende angeschaut. Kompliment!
I shouldn’t be surprised, after following your channel for so long, but once again, 'perfection' is the only word that can describe this project. I know the channel might suffer from having long gaps between posts, but… my God, it’s absolutely worth it. I enjoy long videos, but I understand it requires a huge amount of editing and production work, on top of the insane amount of restoration work a project like this entails. Sir, you are still the best on TH-cam Restoration... by far. I'm sharing it now to support the channel as much as possible. Congratulations once again. I don’t know why I’m surprised when I see The GOAT at work.
You have taken just another normal machine and made something beautiful. I love that shade of blue and the wood accents finish it off perfectly. You are officially my favorite restoration You Tuber now.
I loved every minute of this restoration. If there was a gold medal for quality of work and presentation surely this would win it. I was perfectly happy with the length (although I did have to watch it in two sittings - that didn't bother me in the slightest though) and the assembly part of the video is essential IMHO. Bravo.
What an amazing, meticulous restoration. Bravo! Your attention to detail on every single piece of this thing, inside and out, is impressive. Beautiful color choices too. Fantastic work!! That's a sweet pump you put in it, I might add 😉 without a doubt, the most beautiful FG304 mod I've ever seen. I'm glad you got the pump working and were able to use it as part of this project ❤
I don't normally watch videos of this length, but this was hypnotic. You are a wonderfully skilled craftsman. Congratulations on completing such a difficult project to a perfect finish. 6/6 (on your beer scale!).
Wow... great result and one of your best restorations. 👍 Now I want to see Lance Hedrick testing it. He surely will brew something very tasty with this machine.
I love to watch restoration videos, above all you are the best in my opinion. Using the correct tools for the work you are doing and showing each step in a logical method. It is a joy to watch your work Sir!
That was like watching Michelangelo paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Extraordinary artistry....and bringing old treasures back to their full glory. Thanks for sharing that.
Absolutely breathtaking. I could have watched a whole series on this! Considering the huge scope, technicality and polishing, polishing, polishing... 600 hours is not surprising at all. I hope you get the recognition you deserve for this restoration, it's masterful and was a privilege to watch.
I certainly understand why the video was an hour long but it was worth it to watch a complicated piece of equipment be disassembled, made perfect, and reassembled with extra components. Thank you for this video, I enjoyed watching it.
The appearance of this machine as shown at 0:10 looks unchanged since 60s' because of that nickel plating coat. After you removed the nickel coat the brass will oxidize an become dull with oxidation stains. It will never retain same visual condition for decades like nickel plating did.
Dr B explains at 17:18 that he's treated all the exposed brass and copper surfaces with "Everbrite" resin coating. It's flexible and won't chip or peel even with contraction and expansion of the metal due to heat, it contains antioxidants to help prevent tarnishing/oxidation, and it's definitely more resistant to fingerprint marks than chrome. So it's not raw, exposed metal and should not at all become dull while the coating remains intact.
The detail of all the screw and bolt heads pointing in the same direction, or all pointing to the center in the case of the manometers, makes me unspeakably happy.
I have to admit, I had no idea what you were refurbishing until the very end. However, I also have to admit an amazing project where nothing was over looked. I am sure this took many, many hours to accomplish and certain multiple days or longer as well. But the end results speak for themselves. Well worth the watch for the enjoyment of seeing such refurbishing efforts in action. Bravo sir, Bravo!
@@NTRprojects Yes, is Scaldatazze, some of the paint on the final E must have gone. A tiny, tiny thing to remember for the next machine! 😊 Great job, seriously!! Big hug from Italy!
Supongo que el nivel de satisfacción que uno debe tener al terminar un trabajo así, es inexplicable. Te felicito, el nivel de perfección alcanzado es superlativo. Te mando un abrazo desde Argentina.
Its a beautiful looking restoration. How did you ensure it was still food safe? Brass is NOT food safe because of the Zinc and the traces of lead in the zinc will leach into any food it touches. And coffee is acidic so its extra likely to leach, which is why all the coffee-touching parts were chromed extra thick in the original manufacture.
The majority of brass is absolutely food aafe - most faucets are brass castings. Zinc is toxic in extremely high quantities - far above what could leech out. indeed zinc is necessary for proper health in small amounts which is why it is available as a supplement. There are brass alloys that contain lead but they are not purposely used for plumbing fixtures. And yes lead is definitely a bad thing. if a plumbing fixture has lead somehow the melt was contaminated. adding lead improves the ‘free machining’ qualities of an alloy - not needed with brass as it machines very easily. I am all for the removal of lead from the environment as lead is forever and is virtually impossible to remove from your body even with chelation but the amounts would at best be tiny and water scale will make the transfer negligible. I’d spend my time worrying about the rise of fascism and global warming
It's not exact that this machine never had a pump, the pump and the water softener was sepated units normally mounted under the counter . Normally the boiler pressure should be between 1.2-1.3bar
Wow, the cup warmer is awesome! Never seen any like that. You turn a knob and the steam comes out of the top to warm your cups. Brilliant! Beautiful work.
Holy crap!!! The most painstaking restoration I've ever seen. But so SO worth it. This is my favourite so far! I love coffee machines, especially Gaggia. 🥰 I'm working my way through your entire video history, each one is a marvel in and of itself. Bravo! 👌🤌🇬🇧🇮🇹

My partner and I also really enjoyed watching it come together with so much care and attention to detail. Granted, we wouldn't expect anything less from you, and we continue to be delighted every time you release a new video.
What an absolute labor of love! Such an amazing amount of work! Thank you for sharing it all with us. This video was not too long. My favorite part was getting the satin finish on all of that brass! What an accomplishment. I also really loved the layered wood sandwich you made with blue and olive wood. Such a nice touch. Truly a stunning machine. Artwork!

This is quite possibly the most gorgeous machine I've ever seen. This restoration was incredible. I love the assembly part - happy that you took your time on it!
What a beautiful restoration! I've done a couple of restorations on commercial espresso machines and the worst part is the water boiler and lines. Really happy the heating element and inside of the boiler barely had any scale. Seems like the previous owner did a good job on maintenance. Well done sir and better than factory new.
An absolutely stunning restoration / upgrade. Really impressed with the way you were able to recreate the missing cup warmer feature that was never installed. I felt the video length was good, I just watched it over the course of a couple days I really appreciate how in-depth you showed everything
Even by your high standards, this is an incredible restoration, it came out looking stunning. The video is definitely not too long, like Hand Tool Rescue's newest one, the longer videos on larger items are so satisfying

🎉🎉🎉
I need to see this mod
@@NTRprojects I meant your project - the most beautiful addition of an FG304 gear pump to an espresso machine that I've ever seen!
@@LanceHedrick can't wait to see a video of this thing in action at its new home!!
@@wecoffeeco aaaaaaaaaaah now I got your comment 🤣😍
I don't normally watch videos of this length, but this was hypnotic. You are a wonderfully skilled craftsman. Congratulations on completing such a difficult project to a perfect finish. 6/6 (on your beer scale!).
Wow... great result and one of your best restorations. 👍
Now I want to see Lance Hedrick testing it. He surely will brew something very tasty with this machine.
I love to watch restoration videos, above all you are the best in my opinion. Using the correct tools for the work you are doing and showing each step in a logical method. It is a joy to watch your work Sir!
Thank you so much
A ce niveau, ce n'est plus de la restauration, mais du "Grand Art".
Sincères félicitations, cordialement, tg
That was like watching Michelangelo paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Extraordinary artistry....and bringing old treasures back to their full glory. Thanks for sharing that.
Amazing craftsmanship!!
Your level of skill, craft and dedication is truly terrifying. Much respect to you, Sir. An outstanding result.
Amazing. I’m blown away. 🔥
Amazing!
Thank you very very much Cory
Words cannot describe how awesome this restoration is. The amount of work seems gargantuan. Kudos for pulling it off. Really impressive!
Not only could that go into a coffee shop that could be in an art museum, awesome job.
You "made plywood"... Ok, I've seen it all now. Amazing work.
This is beautiful. The video was not too long. You need all of the time to show the amazing care you took for the restoration.
Both the video and the restoration are works of art. Just wow!
Perfect job as usual.
There s only a little mistake
Scaldatazzi doesnt mean anything.
Possibilities are scaldatazza (1) or scaldatazze (2 or more).
I will send Lance a mask and paint to fix this properly. Thank you for letting me know
Thanks to you for such amazing video.
@@NTRprojects Yes, is Scaldatazze, some of the paint on the final E must have gone. A tiny, tiny thing to remember for the next machine! 😊 Great job, seriously!! Big hug from Italy!
could also be “ScaldatazziNE”
Well there goes my whole day. Found your channel. ❤
@@JB-es9un enjoy the day 😊
Supongo que el nivel de satisfacción que uno debe tener al terminar un trabajo así, es inexplicable. Te felicito, el nivel de perfección alcanzado es superlativo.
Te mando un abrazo desde Argentina.
The sheer amount of sanding and polishing required to get this machine from where it was to the final result speaks to your psychological fortitude.
Just beautiful! I think this is your finest restoration yet! I know your dad is looking down at you with pride. Well done!
This is the best video you have done so far, almost to the level of my mechanics. For that video alone should get +100k subs.
It's not exact that this machine never had a pump, the pump and the water softener was sepated units normally mounted under the counter . Normally the boiler pressure should be between 1.2-1.3bar
Good note!
Bravo! 👌🤌🇬🇧🇮🇹
There are no words to descibe and admire your patince and your skills. It was just amazing to watch this video!!!
This definitely wasn't too long, it's such a massive project I think cutting more time would've left far too much out.
Artwork!
Hands down one of the best restoration videos I have ever seen! Great work and great artistry. Thank you for all the time and work spent to share this amazing project!
Wow! I've seen a lot of restorations here on TH-cam, but this one easily makes my top 5. You've definitely earned my subscription. It brought back so many memories from my childhood in Portugal-my parents used to run a café, and they had a Faema machine with two handles. Absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much for this amazing work. Greetings from London, UK!
Dr. Beers, to say that this was impressive work would be a vast understatement. You used new camera tricks, new technology, a whole lot of patience (amen brother) and all of your many skills to turn this humdrum coffee maker into a work of art. Bravooooooooooooo!
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩Superb is the only word that comes into my mind after watching a masterpiece reborn again, specially with the care you put into it, muahhhhhhhh🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
This is quite possibly the most gorgeous machine I've ever seen. This restoration was incredible. I love the assembly part - happy that you took your time on it!
This isn't a restoration like your other videos. It is a work of art! Thanks for the experience of watching a master at his craft.
Hats off to you from a Texan who is frankly awestruck at your competency and the end result. God bless you and keep you brother.
What a marvelous work of art, that thing belongs in a museum now! The dedication at each step shines in the finished product.
"Make sure you break it at the end, otherwise you can't do it a second time"
Words to live by, truly.
Absolut master piece of restoration! What a skilled person you are! Unbelievable! I've never seen something better like that!
This espresso machine is much better than when it left the manufacturer.
You did a very good job!
Великолепно ! Шедеврально ! Огромная, великолепная, КРАСИВАЯ работа ! Супер, что эта машинка снова будет радовать людей вкусным ароматным кофе и своим видом !
Thanks!
Thank you so much
I love the assembly part of the video. Seeing it all come together into one beautiful masterpiece! The internals of this extraordinary machine are so beautiful that they deserve to be looked at. What a wonderful video!
This restoration is seriously a masterpiece. So beautiful to see how you - step by step - bring this treasure back to life. One of your best videos ever. Thank you so much
If someone told me: go ahead and assemble the machine now, I'd start crying 😂 it was such a massive project. Fantastic work!!
You did an amazing job. Your whole organization feels like therapy.
Da dauert ja das Auseinanderbauen länger als bei anderen die ganze Restaurierung 😅 Mega Projekt und mal wieder n sehr geniales Video. Danke dafür 👌🏻
My two worlds of coffee and machining/engineering suddenly collided when I saw Lance's name 🤯
