Hello Wilma and Greg. I learned a lot from your house build and additional work you completed. As far as different topics, I am interested in one topic you mentioned. Specifically how life aside from working on your house is for you as foreigners in the Philippines. So, I’m interested to learn what activities you enjoy to do the most in your free time and if for example you have been able to establish friendships with other expats or locals either as a couple or individually. It would be nice to see you doing some of your favorite activities outside of your house and yard. Just an idea. You must be looking forward to having a break from house projects. David.
Am so jealous, your home looks awesome! Congratz to you both on completion of your projects on your home. Not sure what video topics that would like. Do have a question though, what do you do with your garbage? You have to take it into town maybe? Thanks for this video, do enjoy seeing your content, Wilma and Greg...Jim
We need to drop off garbage at municipal dump, 15 minute drive or every other Saturday at a drop off point 5 minutes away. Most people burn all garbage, we don't. Thanks for watching.
Love the results! Flower bed looks awesome. Have you thought of a partition or something to hide the utility area? For future topics, I’d like to know more about the government there and how it compares to the USA.
If you're thinking about adding a 3rd tank, and using rain water to fill it, the water should then only be used for watering the plants? At least then your plants would have a fighting chance this coming dry season. 🤔 Nice updates on the house, Wilma and Greg! 👍 At least you have a house to upgrade... we're still searching for our forever home, but every one we find has some type of disqualifier, so we're still taking our time...
My girlfriend’s great uncle in CDO has all of the rain water from the roof routed to fill up his pool. Back in 2010 his pool was around 1 foot low. It started to rain had and the pool was overflowing within 30 minutes. I watched this myself.
Ideas for future videos. Since lots of expats live in your area or want to visit, do a local food tour with both western and Filipino restaurants in your area with prices. Maybe a “Greg tries” balut, dried fish, durian, etc… video. You can do videos on local resorts with prices. A video tour of your downtown area and Duma’s downtown with points of interests. Videos of your travels with costs, where to eat, etc… Maybe informational videos for new expats on how to buy a car or motorbike, renewing your visa, getting a drivers license, dealing with different government agencies, where to buy western size clothes and shoes, etc… A video on common expat complaints and what you did to remedy the problem like getting solar and a gas generator to combat brownouts, extra water tanks to address the water problems and moving to a cooler climate area where you don’t need aircon, etc… You can make the bulk of that video by re-editing some of your old videos. A video of the local S&R, what they carry, how much are things, getting a membership and how much, the food court, etc… A video on car maintenance/repairs. Reliable mechanics in your area, where you get your tires changed and how much, where you get your oil changed or if you do it yourself. Updated cost of living budgets videos every 6 months or year.
The greatest ability is availability! In building the Philippines, expats have different perspectives and have non-negotiable things. Many people in the Philippines need to improve government services and processes to benefit all Filipinos in the Philippines and foreigners. Greg / Wilma; Love you channel and the great insights and advice you present! Outside of the projects to keep you busy, what do you do to keep busy/ occupied since you are retired? My wife and I are building near Iloilo very soon and will be retired and living full time in P.I. I am curious about what to expect for "down-time" activities or hobbies to keep occupied.
It's really a great question. Keeping busy is very important. We maintain/clean our own house. We have the pool. We get out and socialize with friends quite a bit (important to me to be near foreigners). We also go out for lunch or dinner at least twice a week. So far, all of this has been adequate for us. Have not been bored yet.
Hi Guys, interesting video. So we also have two water tanks, but they only get us an extra day if we don’t know our water is cut off. We don’t conserve if we have no idea our water is cut off and our tanks are actually not full. Please share your method to know your water quantity in the tanks. Thanks. Take care.
@@buildingthephilippines I have a vacation home in Baja Mexico, It is completely off-grid and I also have 2 water tanks up on a tower. Doing projects remotely isn’t a good idea unless you have a trusted friend or family member running the project. Very nice!!! I would have to have a wood burning cooker❤ I can't believe that you've conceded, allowing a propane tank inside your walls. I recently moved the propane tank outside my fiance's place. I don't like the idea of a frequent make/break connection for a high pressure explosive and heavier than air gas serviced by a woman enclosed by concrete. By the way, why would you add a 300 gallon tank to your water supply when you have a 15,000 or so gallon pool? You can get a good filter cheaper than a 50 gallon drum. And it could be used for any fresh water.
No wood for us, dirty cooking. Each propane cylinder is surrounded by 4 inch concrete and rebar on 5 sides. Pool is back up to the back up. Thanks for watching.
Good advice on moving the propane tank outside. I hadn't thought that safety part all the way through especially considering the quality of items here in the Philippines. My propane for the stove and the oven also is inside the house BUT it just became a TOP priority to move it outside. Great advice and thought provoking info. The blogger should have just said, thanks for the great advice. 🤔 🙄.
@@earlclep1 sit them outside in a tropical environment, hopefully nowhere near the sun, and watch the tank rust away extremely quickly. I had 4 inch concrete with rebar surrounding each tank separately? Not in our living space, but in our dirty kitchen.
@@buildingthephilippines I guess that means I like dirty cooking 😉 I can't wait to try your local fruitwood for cooking. I was addicted to oak and hickory but now 100 year old hedge fence posts. I can only imagine the potential for unique flavor from so many fruitwood varieties!
@markwadsworth1254 the locals dirty kitchens are full of soot from cooking with wood. Usually every inch of structure, bamboo, tin, coconut wood etc is covered. If I used wood in our dirty kitchen the walls and ceiling would be ruined. Nothing wrong with cooking with wood, just not in a western style home.
The property is looking great! You mentioned you paid the worker’s salary for 11 weeks, but they only worked about 40% of those 11 weeks. Did you pay them for the days they didn’t work? I know there was a day or two that you did for sure if I remember correctly. I can’t remember the exact situation, but something like a schedule conflict on your end I do believe. It’s been great watching the progress. Thank you both for sharing. The knowledge will come in handy in my future when becoming a 10%er in about 4 years if everything goes as it planned.
Hello Greg and Wilma. Everything is looking good in your house. I have a question. I am thinking of buying a new electric fan made in Germany but sold here in Canada. Is it okay to bring the electric fan in the Philippines? Is your microwave from abroad or bought in the Philippines? Thanks in advance
@endabutsoy6071 you need to check to see if the device is 220v or not. If 220v then it's a good idea to bring. If it's 110v, common in the US, then you would need a step down transformer to use here. Doable, but an inconvenience. If the device shows 110v to 240v on the label, then it's good anywhere. That's ideal.
Hello Sir Greg & Wilma... I’ve been watching you guys for awhile your house was really amazing. I like your area..is there any available lot near by you guys? I’ve seen some empty lot on your neighborhood are those available & affordable? My husband & I are looking for a property that we can afford. Just looking for atleast 500 sqm to 1000 I don’t need a big lot I just want something We can build a house and garden. Do you have realtor you can recommend? I hope you guys can see my comment. 😊
Thanks for watching our videos. Lots here are sold. Prices doubled here the past year. Best to search using Facebook marketplace for available lots in any area of the Philippines.
had a hard time to decide which banking system to use to have access to our money both here in US and in the Philippines....BDO turns out the winner so far....
Don't rule out Commerce. The manager there, Manny has proven very helpful and by far they have had the best exchange rate for, dollars anyways, the last 5 years. Like you though I also have dollar and peso at BDO, just too many people in line for me.
I would like to know who your builder is. My husband and I are planning on relocating to the Philippines since my husband is Filipino but raised in America. Can you help please?
200 million pesos??? That’a too much amount to build a house unless let say 3-4 story house with 12 bedrooms ensuite, with walking wardrobe each, with at least 6-8 meters size each. 3-4 hectares land area, large swimming pool, basketball court or tennis court, a park or huge garden, car park which can accommodate 10 cars.

Is that pad next to the 11ft walls a spot for a nice diesel generator? You could power all your neighbors houses when the power goes out lol
Lol, no way. Our current setup is just fine for us. Outside CR, I believe.
We did pay them for the scheduling issue. The 25 days they missed, we did not pay them. Appreciate the comment. Good luck with your building project.
What are the red bushes called?😊
I can't remember their name.
@@buildingthephilippines Greg and Wilma, Thank you very much for the valuable info. With God blessing i will be coming home January 2025.
Can't move until that old lady gives up the ghost. I think she is fighting it. Oh well that's my cross to bear.
You're a good man, Charles
Sorry but I keep missing it. Where do you guys live? What area? Just curious.

Good to hear you found a reliable option.

@buildingthephilippines Thank you!!!
@buildingthephilippines Your home is stunning 😍 BTW.
@jenniferjones8660 thank you
So What wS the total cost fir this house?
We did a complete video on all costs. It's on our main channel page. House was 3.3m pesos.
The area is running out of water cuz its all in your pool
10,000 water leaks with the cheap black hoses running along side the road and the pool too.
Hi Greg and Wilma. What is the size of your lot? TIA
1100 sqm, thanks for watching
Thank you for the info. Follow up question. What is the square footage of your home/building? You have beautiful home 🏠
168 square meters
Does that include your new dirty kitchen and parking?
Parking no, dirty kitchen yes.
You are enjoying your good life in the Philippines whereas P Diddy is rotting in jail, Riker prison down the road 🤣.
Simple life over complex one anyway. Thanks for watching.
Are your new neighbors foreigners?
Yes
who are you trying to impress.
My wife, so she will stay with me. Did I do a good job. Thanks for watching.
So your dirty kitchen is now becoming your main kitchen 🤣.
The kitchen used the most explains it best.
Building a big house in the Philippines for 220 million pesos is pretty cheap.
@@emilyanthony7138 220 million ?
200 million pesos??? That’a too much amount to build a house unless let say 3-4 story house with 12 bedrooms ensuite, with walking wardrobe each, with at least 6-8 meters size each. 3-4 hectares land area, large swimming pool, basketball court or tennis court, a park or huge garden, car park which can accommodate 10 cars.
@@ArsenioPeralta-so8wu they probably meant to say 22 or 20 million pesos.
@@buildingthephilippines a ok. Thank you and keep up the good work..
I did not know where you lived but found you because of the Great Wall of China was being built right beside you. LMAO
We are in the Philippines.
@@buildingthephilippines I live in Bacong. LOL. I was just taking an aimless long drive on my scooter and saw the Great Wall from the house being built beside you. I drove up to the new build and then realized it was your house on the left. Also met some friends of yours today. Just a bunch of funny consequences.
Small world.
@@buildingthephilippines Yeah its funny. I remember speaking to you over a year ago telling you I was coming to the Philippines. Lived in Cebu for a year and then moved to Negros. I like it a lot better here. Me, and my Scotch and my South American Cigars. Pure Happiness - LOL
