    One of the many introductions I had into metal. Waaay back in 2003-2005, I was introduced to Darkest Hour, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Unearth... Man, did I fucking love this album. I listened to it CONSTANTLY.

    • @alainrosebush5093
      @alainrosebush5093 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You'd classify D.H. as metal?
      I'm not saying you're wrong, but I feel like there is a more specific word than that. To me it sounds like a metal and hardcore crossover. Not like D.R.I. and not like Hatebreed... same crossover, different results.
      I mean, if you put this beside say, Megadeth, Metallica, or Venom.... the big metal bands... it's hard to say it's the same genre.
      There is clearly metal in this, but I can't call it metal. In my mind, metal was an 80s thing. Definitely not a post 2000 thing.
      But then, I listen to new hardcore and punk bands 35 or so years after the time of those genres too.

      That's true ! When I heard it for the first time - I thought "what da fuck is this? fuck that!"... But after some time I managed to discover the melodic part of this song, read lyrics which are related to the 2nd Amendment ... Man this was such a great time in the American metalcore genre. You had bands like Darkest Hour, Unearth, As I Lay Dying were just getting really popular, etc. I had albums like Ondoing Ruin, Deliver Us(My favorite), Oncoming Storm, and Shadows are Security on constant repeat. I was just really starting to get into guitar playing at the time and these bands really shaped my guitar playing. I was 18-19 at the time this album came out. I got to see all of them live during their golden years(in my opinion). Saw Darkest Hour twice, both times during their Deliver Us tour cycle, both times with Kris Norris. Saw Unearth several times, As I Lay Dying several times, other bands like All That Remains, August Burns Red(Thrill Seeker and Messengers were out by then), so many good bands. Darkest Hour just sort of totally fell off my radar when Kris left the band though. Still love them though. Their singer was just particularly vicious with the way he screamed. I fucking loved it and I love how in this song they got the vocalist for At The Gates to do some screams. You can tell they were heavily influenced by swedish melodic death metal and bands like At The Gates, In Flames, etc. They even went to Fredrik Nordstrom to record this album, the same guy who recorded Colony and Clayman for In Flames.

    • @wowno5763
      @wowno5763 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They were so influenced by melodeath that they were melodeath... Maybe you could argue that from Deliver Us and on they were metalcore, but before that they were melodeath.

I was in an FYE and the artwork caught my eye and then I saw that it was on Victory so I grabbed it. Darkest Hour had the three best metalcore albums in a row then something changed...

    • @Wiggibow
      @Wiggibow 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Members changed, Kris Norris (lead guitar on Sadist Nation, Undoing Ruin, and Deliver Us) left the band in 2008. IMO The Human Romance is every bit as good as the trilogy, but yeah they've never been quite the same since.
