Here in late 2023 and these dudes don't get the credit they deserve. One of the earliest pioneers of metalcore, I hope one day in the future people recognize
I’ve known this song since the day it came out. It has helped me through all the shit I’ve dealt with in high school and all those suicide attempts. I’m turning 30, till this day this song still gives me that comfort that everything will be alright. Thank You Darkest Hour.
Definitely. It sucks they will probably never get the recognition they deserve. They are easily above killswitch engage and the rest of the other mainstream metalcore groups.
Yeah it almost seems like that they're the ones from the hardcore scene that has heard of At The Gates. I recommend checking out The Punk Rock Mba for the details.
@@TreiskadekDevili disagree with them being above killswitch but this is biased because killswitch engage is my favorite band. but darkest hour is top 5 for me. and this album is one of my favorites of all time

2024 just now discovering these dudes. Where the fuck have I been? For one they’re from DC, I’m born and raised in MD, 20 min outside Baltimore, 45min-1.5hr outside DC for the last 30yrs. For two, they describe themselves as influenced by ‘Swedish extreme metal’ in general. All of it, no one specific, though I do hear some key influences in some songs. That’s the shit I do like. How have I never deep dove into their shit?
This band helped me through my teenage years, and this song by itself is forever placed in my heart. Darkest Hour truly makes amazing music, and I hope to see them capture the fame they deserve.
I've seen Darkest hour so many times. They always visited my city and we would follow them to Houston and catch their show there too. Great band and super chill guys. I miss those days. I don't even listen to metal anymore, honestly. Just got to thinking about concerts and thought about them. Still sound sick.
If it wasn’t for my best friend introducing this band to me , I prolly would have never found them . He OD’d 6 years ago after both of us kicked a really nasty habit back in 2005-10. Sucks that I’m here and he’s not but , it gets a little easier every time I look back on it . Rest In Peace , Timmy . “And one of these days we'll no longer betray ourselves In any way we won't all look the same way down And one of these days we'll no longer betray ourselves In any way and we'll all take the same way out”
When a band is filming a music video they'll usually listen to a recording of the song and play along to it. A drummers cymbals are often so loud that they'll drown out the sound of the audio playback and the players being filmed will play out of sync. If you tape the bottom of your cymbals they tend to ring less, making it easier to hear the recording over them. You'll see a lot of drummers tape their crash cymbals for music video shoots. Hope this helps!
I remember thinking the whole guitar hero thing was laughable But cool that they were getting tthere name out there. Been a fan since I saw Sadist Nation vid on a Victory Records promo DVD +Battle for Ozzfest ...then got my hands on Undoing Ruin Fall of 2005, album saved my life and I haven't looked back since. In fact, I even got a tattoo of the album art...Which you can see in DH's doc Party Scars 2. I'm the guy at the very end proudly displaying the art on my arm - the Dead Boy. There's also a funny pic on Head Above Heart's collection of DH. It's the one of the wheel chair guy crowd surfing. I'm in the pic - the guy with the satanic tattoo and the holy shit expression on his face. Lmao Ah, such good times and that image is practically historical. DH is the best! :D
Literally one of my favourite bands ever since I heard 'A thousand words to say but one' and they remain, inside me, the songs as infectious and meaningful as ever, Darkest Hour, We salute you.
Love how his clean vocals are almost speech like but his screams are so on point it makes this song one in a million...after all these years I still fucking love this song
It keeps happening to me too, im getting kinda sick of it....i mean i got shit to do, i dont need metalcore bands slowin me down....time to appeal to the record companies....no more metalcore vids in junkyards plz, jesus!
Convalescence and the sadist nation did it for me.once I heard kris' arpeggio sweeps I was hooked.its sad he's gone but im glad to know dh still has that unique dark but beautiful sound that ive come to admire.
It's about overcoming yourself and anything negative you do that's holding you back before you reach an old age regretting everything and dreaming of what you could have done
Songs built around triplets have interested me for awhile. Very unique felling. The quarter + eight note triplet groove the drums play in the first verse is a joy to play and listen to
I remember the promo when this album came out it was through the fuse channel (when they had good music) but I knew about this band through the victory records DVDs that came out with cds and I got undoing ruins and fell in love with this band
it's sad that these guys will never go main stream. Their music is so much better than the 128 bpm main street shite that we're force fed everyday. Long Live Real Rock!
I remember when this song first came out. on MTV 2 while I was watching headbangers ball, I swear everytime it went to commercial, it played a part of this video and song and it just got stuck in my head from listening to it so much. this song is great
Darkest hour has so many hard songs that get shit going way harder than this song, but as many other comments have said, this song is a masterpiece of music. So beautiful and entrancing. Asking for more than the numbing existence
Offered us all

To make you crawl back in
Despite everything that you've been through
You're still right where I left you
We can lift up our hands to the sky
Find all of those strings that they're pulling and keep from falling back
Into our old rhythmic poses
Turning us into machines
And one of these days we'll no longer betray ourselves
In any way we won't all look the same way down
And one of these days we'll no longer betray ourselves
In any way and we'll all take the same way out
And all these illusions dropped on a sea of believers
Crowding around as they hunt me down
And throw me out
While all the rest of the others
Bang their heads in the dredges
And one of these days we'll no longer betray ourselves
In any way we won't all look the same way down
And one of these days we'll no longer betray ourselves
In any way and we'll all take the same way out
