It is windfarms and natural gas (about half and half) in the UK. We have all but stopped burning coal now. There are no mines left, and don't forget our island is made of coal!!
@@akf2131 Many thanks. Alas, I don't know enough about blast furnaces. Is this injected into the hot blast stoves or can coal somehow take the place of the coke that is part of the blast furnaces charge?
@@COIcultist my knowledge on Blast furnace operations is limited but my understanding of the process is PCI is used as a supplementary fuel,which reduces the amount of coke required therefore reducing costs,PCI coals can also be sold on the thermal coal market.It is injected directly into the bottom of the blast furnace.👍

Power to them. 500 jobs there plus drivers, plus jobs for the steel industry, jobs for those who sell the steel, more driving jobs, jobs for those forging tools from the steel, jobs for those selling it, more jobs for drivers, money going into our own economy. What could be better? As long as there is real health and safety and proper pay, well above minimum wage for the workers and miners.

Its used in ‘Pulverised coal injection’ operations in a blast furnace as supplementary fuel.
