My family lived in Driftwood in the 70’s & 80’s. My father passed in 2009 . His name was Dr Elwyn Smith. My mother’s name was Molly. She passed in 2001. Here are some last names I remember. ( neighbors) Dawson, Schneider, Shu, Mason.. My buddy Chip( passed in 2014..RIP Chip) , Jim Jennings etc... So long ago. Yes, Driftwood is a magical place ( water skiing on the Bayou) growing up. I am happy I had the opportunity to be part of that neighborhood so long ago. I wish the best for everyone living there now.

EXCELLENT video! Your video and description capture exactly how I feel about Driftwood: I've often referred to it as being downright "enchanted". It's magical. It really is. It's like a special, secret, ...again, magical place. I fell in love with it the first time I somehow got lost (or did I?) and found myself there. I was like: what in the world? I LOVE THIS PLACE! The narrow, winding lanes, the poetic canopy of oaks enveloping the whole neighborhood, and the historic homes. I also love the history of it being a writers' colony. I wanted to buy a house there, if possible, but houses almost NEVER come up for sale there! And now I'm sure they are priced outta my league, as they probably were before, too, but WOW...it is there anytime I need an infusion of enchantment.
I'm hoping the local historic designation will go through--just had to throw that into my comment.
