Maybe its just me but I consider "Outside" one of the major contributions of Bowie's career and wondered why it had never been developed as a stage show. And yes I do understand the dark nature of the subject matter, but as a comment on both physical and psychological isolation there is much to be revealed.
This song breaks my heart every time. Makes me reflect on ex girlfriends and people who I knew in the past. My favourite Bowie single from my favourite Bowie album. And I'm a fan of everything the man has ever touched
man, how can anyone not love mike garson's piano in that song? if there was a list of the 10 great collaborators of bowie, he'd be in that list along w/ mick ronson, carlos alomar, brian eno, tony visconti, george davis, dennis murray, mick woodmansey, trevor bolder, and earl slick.
I don't understand why this song was not received well (in music charts) - it cracked the top 40 briefly (#39) and then went away. It's actually a really great melodic pop-rock song, emotional and moving, it had a great little video to go with, and a beautiful vocal... and yet "no one" seemed to pay it any attention???
whataboutredlorry people rarely paid attention to Bowie’s singles. He was about the whole package. A lot of his fans (80s popularity aside) aren’t from the group who would fly out and buy a single and not care about everything else
From 71 on I couldn't run fast enough to grab every new album that Bowie came out with. All of them I loved some a little more than other but loved them all. Saw him live 3 times. How can I ever forget when my daughter called me that Sunday morning and said "Dad!, David Bowie died". I cried that day and I was 65 then. I cried when Jimi, Janis, Jim, John and David died.
Sad that he is gone. But also sad for the millions of others who have gone. It don't matter who you are Or what you've Done. Even an old life is still young.
A good version on the Budda Album but an absolute classic version on the Outside album. It's just a brilliant song. And this live version is fantastic. Quite simply a musical genius.
Loved this song from the moment I heard it. It's December 2022 and it's still on heavy rotation with me. There's a few versions of it and I like every single one of them. I miss you David.
Just beautiful... I'm proud to say that I bought this single when it first came out and I've played it a thousand times since then. Spookily I sought this video clip out just before he died. I just had an urge to listen to Strangers When We Meet. X
This is a breathtaking tune! My best Bowie tune i Sound and Vision...but this one is slowly but unstoppably crawling under my skin. Video is awesome, but this ...live performance has the same ....energy...vibe...Awesome.
The piano is genius, but as always, that bass... & Bowie's total control&variations in his voice. No one song ever sounds the same twice when he sings it. This is beautiful that he can make it perfect, singing so low energy. Anyone tell me what he wrote this song about, or who?- bb💙🎶💙
GREAT BEAUTIFUL BOWIE,GREAT BAND..ALFORD IS A BEAST ON THE DRUMS AS ALWAYS ....ALL OTHER BANDMEMBERS..SUPERB!!.ALOMAR,DORSEY AND MIKE..DID I MISS ANYONE?GABRELS?.ANOTHER GEM OF A SONG THAT I FAIRLY RECENTLY DISCOVERED! BOWIE BINGING AGAIN!🤩🥰
I've loved this song the moment I heard it years ago. It is still one of my go-to-songs of his. Perfect as always, David never disappointed. Gail Ann Dorsey's killer bass line and Mike Garson's brilliant piano...Zachary Alford on drums and of course CARLOS!!! I've heard different versions of this song and I'll take all of them...I miss David...
What a Master ! What mastery ! Everything is under control, he can do what he wants with his voice ! So fascinating !("Fascination Comes around......)❤
another Bowie MASTERPIECE. Zack Alford on percussion rocks. Watch him work on Lorelei concert footage etc. he practically levitates on some down beat crashes.
"No peachy prayers No trendy rechauffé I'm with you So I can't go on All my violence Raining tears upon the sheets" and then there's"Peaches" by Bieber. Just the above is better than his entire creative output.
In my opinion, one of the most underrated songs Bowie has made. Breaks my heart everytime I listen to it, but can't work out why.
+Steve Walton tragically, I think you now know why
the same here. .
im so thankful we're strangers when we meet
...no going back
My thoughts exactly. I just adore this song.
It's one of my favourites. and indeed one of the most underrated Bowie songs.......

Never understood why this song wasn't a hit.
Mike Garson's piano,
Pure class, and elegance 👍
Thank Goodness for Gayle Anne Dorsey's understated, yet elegant, presence and her musicianship; She and David are so good together. I love this song.
Gail Ann Dorsey
David Bowie. The coolest cat ever to grace God's green earth. Paying attention, kids? This is how it's done. Perfection.

True. And Outside was a very haunting, even horrifying record.
@@rossmatheson4303 very well said.
Such a beautiful, heart-wrenching song. I absolutely adore Garson's piano line on this. Strangers surely ranks among Bowie's best.

Carlos the Band Leader, counting every bar, so rock solid

Immense kudos to Mike Garson - his piano work really completes this track.
