      Hi! I love watching the cute babies in your videos. Recently I also started watching other monkey channels and saw a video of a 11 month old pig tail monkey whose teeth are rotten and he has infected gums. His name is Yen in Dalton, Yen, Bella channel. Is there anything that can help him recover? These are his milk teeth so there is hope that with treatment his permanent teeth will be healthy. Your suggestions are very welcome.

      Hey Kyle. Chuck here in L.A....Well, Antelope Valley anyway. My question is, if all these people are keeping monkeys for pets, where are they getting them? Are they being poached like in Cambodia, China, Vietnam, Philippines etc? It seems u get a lot of former pets. I'd love to meet you when you get back. That would be an honor.

    The babies that were kept as pets seem like they hold onto each other a lot for comfort. They look like they tend to stick together. Good videos Kyle.

    That was such a lovely video. Amazing to see the babies with their new mums and relax. Such human like faces and reactions. Good to see the monkeys being treated with respect. There are so many videos of monkeys on You Tube that break my heart where they are used to make money and hounded.

    • @Darrenbrown68

      @Wendy 66...you are so right. I started watching videos of macaques after seeing 2 really good documentaries, Disney's "Monkey Kingdom" and PBS's "Snow Monkeys." They were both so very inspirational, funny and entertaining that I came to youtube to find more and more monkey movies.
      Unfortunately, there are a ton of creeps that manipulate, compromise & harm these innocent cousins of ours both for $$ and sheer joy. You can actually hear some of those VOs laughing in the their camera while they knowingly feed a lower class monkey that is only going to get reprimanded by the higher monkeys because of the hierarchy. Anybody who films social monkey troops KNOWS that they eat in order of their standing in the troop. Low ranking monkeys stay back and out of the way until the alpha male, the matriarch and her family and all the other higher ranking monkeys are full. Then and only then can the low ranks get in on the grub.
      Those VOs know this and will seek the younger, lower ranks out and hand them food...then take a couple steps back with their iPhone on a tripod and just wait. It's sick and cruel. Then they will come up with a title like "SweetPea gets owned by large alpha male monkey!" or "Million tears...break your heart...baby monkey nearly die after attack!".'
      All of which would NEVER had happened if that VO didn't make it happen.
      Luckily, I fell upon these 4 brilliant monkey TH-cam channels:
      - VMF
      - Arroz Marisco
      - Kiyo
      - JW
      These are the only channels I watch, with the exception of the network clips by Nat Geo Wild, PBS, BBC, Smithsonian, etc. They are professionally produced. They respect and truly care for the monkeys.
      They prove that without human manipulation these monkeys are very dignified, loving, funny and sweet. And, they truly know how to treat one another in THEIR OWN world.

    What a great thing you people are doing ! Makes my heart happy! Maybe you can answer a question, I know people make pets with baby monkeys. They are very cute , but !!! They don’t keep most of them What is the point ? People do know they will grow up !!! I HATE seeing baby monkeys being SOLD on the streets in horrible surroundings and we all know where this takes place those people are so cruel. They know it’s illegal to sell them but they don’t seem to care the people that buy them needs to be locked up or better still have to PAY a large fine and that money given to rescue places !!

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have no idea. You'd have to ask the weirdos who think they can keep them as pets. I always think the same thing, logic says obivously this cute little thing will grow up, but I don't think people who want to keep monkeys as pets have much logic going for them.

    I didnt think Abby would get a mom since she is 4 months. Above the 3 month threshold.

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a threshold or a set firm standard, these are simply monkeys ya know? lol. Three months is just generally descriptive of the time the babies don't desire to be constantly with mom and they become more independent so they are less likely to bond with the foster moms as strongly as the young babies do. But we integrate monkeys into the troop at any age. The younger ones under a year are just fortunate enough to be able to skirt around the troop dominance hierarchy and fall in as a baby who gets treated differently and allows for generally easier integrations.

      So the deal with Toni as I tried to express in the last episode is that the window is left open and Toni just goes in and out at night and eventually one night he will just leave and never come back. There is no integration process because Bush Babies are solitary creatures (except for when they sleep, they usually sleep in small groups) so they just do their own thing once they're old enough. Natural instinct and all that good stuff. Lol integration never stops.

    Can the adult vervet's not get thrush?

    • @jessicat3762
      @jessicat3762 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      It's not likely unless they have a compromised immune system inhibiting their body from fighting it off before it becomes an infection... and it's not commonly contagious. It's more common with infants because yeast cultures in the milk or formula infect the mouth because of open sores during teething and the digestive enzymes in the saliva not strong enough since they are not eating alot of solids yet.

      @@jessicat3762 That is true, because I came down with thrush almost 2 years ago when I was 32 years old; I was diagnosed with diabetes several weeks later (I had gone to an overnight clinic due to a mysterious, nagging cough from a cold that had disappeared weeks before, but the stubborn cough wouldn't follow suit), which had compromised my immune system and caused other chronic health issues, as well. My mother -- who is 30 years my senior -- had also gotten it a number of years ago.

    QUESTION: when you have a troup of babies do you always integrate them into the same troup? Or do you split them up at all? Or does each little group get integrated into a different troup? Sorry hope this makes sense. Love all the vidoes so much! I appreciate all the hard work and time you all put into the monkey's!

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks very much Maranda!
      It's different every time. Depends on the age of the babies and the proficiency of each at the feeding cage, depends on which troops already have babies, depends on the time in the season and how the moms have been with babies so far, etc. There's no set standards, its just a matter of the individuals and whatever works or doesn't and making necessary adjustments.

    Is there something you could give the monkeys for thrush or do you have to let it go away on its own? Does it go away faster when the mothers lick it?

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thrush is a fungal infection, it always lives dormant in the hosts system, so it will never go away, it will just not be active and showing symptoms. All that medications can do is to mitigate the symptoms and help the outbreak to go away sooner. The babies are given Colloidal Silver, Probiotics, Lysine, and some other Homeopaths.

      depends on the severity of the situation and the particular enclosure the baby is in and what sort of medication is being given. But generally the thrush medications we use are topical.

      lol not sterilized. Vasectomized. Simply vasectomized, the same way humans get vasectomized. Vervets can live anywhere from 15 - 30 years.

    Do the babies get upset when their foster moms leave and go back out into the troop without them once bonding has started? How do you persuade the females to leave the intro enclosure after a visit when you aren't yet ready to release the babies to go out with them into the troop?

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The foster moms don't generally leave and go back into the troop once they are in, unless there is an intro. We don't persuade them, they just go out on their own cause the door is open and they want to go out.

    Are the females more or less interested in adopting babies when they come into heat?

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wouldn't know. That happens at a completely different time of year. There is breeding season when they are in heat and then there is birthing season, birthing season is when adoptions occur, so it seems that it's more genetically instinctive for them to desire babies at the appropriate time of year.

    Another great episode Mrs Gold is an absolute legend ! Xx I look forward these updates every week👍👍 ...so nice to be able to follow the progress of these beautiful little babies 👶
    Just a quick question for you.... do vervets adopt in the wild ? ie....if one of the troop mums gets killed will an auntie or sister take over the baby? Or do the dads step in like they sometimes do with other primates ??just wondered if adopting was a normal behaviour for them outside of the VMF XX

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know of any studies proving adoption in the wild, but I'd say the fact that so many babies end up abandoned by the troops after their mothers are killed would lead me to believe no, especially since most females in a troop give natural birth it would be strange for them to desire to care for two babies. Not even our foster moms like Mrs. Gold end up keeping both babies.

    • @mimi2-3
      @mimi2-3 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vervet Monkey Foundation I have a question and I hope it’s not dumb.. but Mrs Gold removing one baby from her (I can imagine carrying the two would be difficult). But the one she took off of her, you think that one will be adopted by another? Do you still watch them once they are out (if you can see them that is ) just to make sure the one she let go isn’t alone? Thanks Kyle for answering so many comments and for all the hard work the foundation does!!

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mimi2-3 All the babies are monitored for a week after the initial release. All troops are monitored every day, so every day the monkeys are accounted for and checked on, this is how we keep track of everything that's happening with the babies.
      Also yeah, I'm not sure who is currently with Mrs. Gold. but just because she took one baby off at that moment doesn't mean that's the baby she is getting rid of or keeping, Vervet's don't plan ahead that much lol. But yes, in the end, Mrs. Gold only kept one baby who she trades off with another mom sometimes, and then Halo I believe took one of the other babies. But really with the foster mom situation, the babies just sorta end up with whoever they end up with and it can change quite frequently.

    • @mimi2-3
      @mimi2-3 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Vervet Monkey Foundation I see that now Kyle after watching all of your videos (season 1, 2 etc). Looks like the whole troop welcomes the babies and pay attention to all of them. Meaning if one is left behind and starts to cry someone will come in and scoop them up and carry them to catch up with the gang. This is just so fascinating to me!! I really do appreciate all your hard work and can not wait to see what other work you produce with vervets or which other animals you chose to vlog about!!! Hope you are feeling a lot better!!!

    If someone from the Vervet monkey would please let me know if it is normal for stressed babies that have been taken from their moms to self soothe by sucking their own penises? The Angkor Wat monkey channels are showing one that humans had dropped there at the the temple after taking him very young. They could handle him so abandoned him there. Multiple channels are showing this animal they call Axel doing this. I have seen 1 other baby dovtjos after he had been kidnapped by one of the troop members and kept for a few days. The new one is a pigtail, the others are longtails.
