    I’m happy you guys set Toni up with a Mom first this little guy needed a Mom so bad....well they all do but I felt so bad for Pascall from day 1 Toni followed him around sucking on Pascalls eat as a teet and poor Pascall tried to be patient with his surrogate brother but you could tell some days it worked his last nerve. So hopefully Tonis new surrogate Mom will let him suckle on her teet even though there is no milk it will comfort him like a binky and also help with the bond, I have seen other babies do this with the Moms and also other babies suck on the other a babies ears so it’s not unusual what Toni does. I’m sure this is why you put him first. Thank you for all you guys do you are amazing!

    Guys, thanks a lot for the work you do and the love and care you give to the monkeys. There are so many chanels showing baby monkeys being abused (from diaper rash through constant baths to yelling, slapping, pulling their tails and scalps or forcing them to fight with another animals). Just watching you is a relief: humans can still be humans who are sensitive to animals' needs.

    It's amazing how well these babies do . I think you have a incredible set up for these babies . It's great , safer and less stressful for these babies and makes it a whole lot easier to have the adults to come and get aquatinted with them and see who is favorable for the adoption . What I'm seeing in these videos is alot of love and caring but I'm also seeing alot of patients from your people to take the time to do it right . If I could start and do a set up like this to help I most definitely would . I truly appreciate your efforts with these babies as well as the adults because the patients you have and show to them helps them both feel comfortable and not scared or terrified to come together . You might think it to be funny but humans can learn so much from animals . Does anyone remember the gorilla by the name of Coco ? She learns how to talk to us using the sign language that she was taught . How about Jane Goodall ? I think I got the name right . Anyway she chose to live in the jungle among the tortillas not only to learn from them but also try to help protect them from poachers . Unfortunately she lost her life trying to protect the gorillas . Like the elephants loss of life it was a loss for one body part and nothing else. The elephants was for the ivory - their tusks . The monkeys is their hands and I believe with the gorillas I think that was also for their hands . Let's not forget the seals were horribly beaten to death to get their pelts . Let's not forget horses . These poor animals were put down years ago for their hooves to make glue .Humans are a most dangerous civilization of animals on this planet . We all haven't reached the level of stupidity so there's still hope . Those people who really truly care about animals really need to stand up and at the very least spread the word that these animals are being slautered for nothing . All I'm saying is that it doesn't matter what types of animals you're going to stand for - just be patio ate about it . Whatever you can do will make a difference in a life . Be true to your cause .

    Since everyone is healthy instead of throwing out the milk the baby’s don’t drink. Wouldn’t it be a nice treat to give it to the adult monkeys in a big bowl like your flat bottomed blue water bowls, so it spread out all over the bottom of the bowl to be easily licked up and shared by several adults at the same time. I bet they would love it and it is full of vitamins, so it couldn’t hurt. I bet they would lick the bowl clean and since it is spread out over the entire bottom of the big blue bowl nobody would get to much. Just a tiny treat I am sure they would look forward too. It is just something we used to do at the zoo I worked out when I was much younger. Sometimes there was barely enough milk left over to cover the large stainless steel flat bottomed bowl so we added water to it but every day they looked forward to their milk treat. (we used stainless bowls since our vet said plastic bowls get scratched and the scratches hold bacteria) We fed baby’s from every 2 hours to 3 times a day depending on the baby, we just kept the left over milk in the refrigerator. In the summer one of our volunteers came up with a great idea we starting doing. She went around and picked up little sticks, used a thread to stabilize the sticks in ice cube trays, added just plain water and sometimes chopped up tiny pieces of fruit to put in the milk/water mix and made the monkeys ice cube size pop sickles. We were fortunate enough to have a big freezer so sometimes made up to 10 trays of popsicles. We had 2 troops, the macaque troop was around 35 to 40 monkeys in the Langur troop there was about 20 to 25. Of course we gave them out to the baby’s first!! They all loved them very very much on hot summer days. We were amazed at how fast the monkeys learned to use the sticks to hold their pop sickles.

      Little guy nearly died a few time when he first reached VMF so had a really rough start to his little life, then Pascall arrived and they helped each other through their traumas, so I suppose being taken away from.his little friend and put in with 'big scary monkeys' who just wanna love you to tiny pieces is a bit scary for all of they, until they realise they just wanna hug and love them. Just a question since the situations you deal with are so totally different then ones I have seen when working with primates at the zoo. Thank God the zoo I worked at had huge enclosures for the monkeys. A lot of natural fruit and other trees, I think the macaque area was well over an acre, or 1 1/2 acres. That is why the pool area, enrichment area and feeding areas were within public view or the public may not have been able to see the monkeys as much as they would have liked. We also sold a limited amount of fruits and veggies cups ppl could throw to the monkeys which also kept them in areas the ppl could see them. you probably know monkeys are a big attraction to the public. Since we had so many trees etc accidents can happen with baby’s falling out of trees, not surviving the falls. We also had like many wild troops some mother monkeys were not good mothers and did not take proper care of their young. (this was many years back before contraceptives were available). When we had a baby that did not have a mother or a caring mother, we would give that baby to a mother who’s baby was born dead, a premie birth/death, late miscarriage or lost because of a accident and everything went well, the mother that had lost her baby had no problem at all with her new baby’s care. We had mothers that had no problem at all caring for 2 baby’s at once. We did how ever have monkeys because of their very high maternal instincts have the need to babysit. We even had female kidnappers but momma monkey was always on their heels for the chance to get their baby back. Is that the case with what you are calling surrogate mothers. Just that there is no real mother to want her baby back?

    • @VervetMonkey
      @VervetMonkey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      in our case surrogate mothers would not have lost a baby, they would just be adult females that show interest in adopting an orphan

    I have totally fallen in love with these beautiful animals. I wish I could take care of them🥰🥰🥰 I don’t believe having monkeys as pets is right but sometimes there are occasions that these actually need humans to make it. If they are disabled and/or to small to take care of themselves or injured. I wish I could help them❤️❤️❤️❤️

    Just a thought . Maybe a few friends , a church or just a group of people could get together and adopt one or more babies and everyone chips in a certain amount each month to help these people keep things going or maybe the money could help finnish building an enclosure or help with food . Maybe you could specify what each month of donation you want it to go to to help . I am so happy to see the comments to be good ones and seems like people want so much to learn and help .

    what is the Irish lads name, anyone know? he looks identical to an Irish dude that I used to see, its uncanny, really.
    If anyone from the Vervets sees this - ask him if hes ever been to the states, preferably NYC/Philadelphia/New Jersey area. I know a shit ton of Irish from the tri-state area, and am wondering if hes ever been here.

      @@mark.fergus no way! wow, i was sure i had you pegged! lol Great job with the wee monkeys, you guys are soo admirable. Me & my friend were seriously kickin' it around to travel over, see some sites, and to stop thru & volunteer, and then all of this covid madness broke out. Unreal. So now its all up in the air, but I've always wanted to travel over there. it is unbelievably gorgeous. I'm a gypsy at heart, and love to adventure around, so I've got a bit of cabin fever goin' on, atm! :-/
      I went to Ireland a few years ago for a month. I visited some good friends that I met here in the states. I flew into Shannon & traveled down the coast to Cork and then all the way up to Dublin, then on to Belfast. I had such a fabulous time, I almost stayed - if I didnt have friends with me that had to be back, I would've definitely stayed. I cried soo hard at the airport. LoL
