the thing is with the hypixel being "plagued" with kits, you can't buy them with irl money so its not too bad, but i still agree that the original magic is gone
And that makes it so if you want to have a fun and fair match against others, you'd have to grind over several months to even get to the same playing ground as everyone else, but even then there's so much variance in player's kit levels that it's always unbalanced and it won't always be fun. Hypixel should just add versions of each gamemode that don't have kits, or give the players max level kits from the start.
@freezingfalcon I actually think it's why bedwars is the most popular gamemode on the server since it has no upgrades other than cosmetics. I hope Hypixel himself can grow a brain cell and realise the reason why it's popular. Anyone can pick it up and play without having to worry about being low leveled.

@@VD-cl7if When I think minigames I think "easy to understand and easily accessible." Having to grind at all doesn't make it accessible to people who don't have all the free time in the world to play.

Nostalgia lol. These minigames made my childhood. It's sad to know lots of them dropped out of the Minecraft community or changed to something different over time. It's ok though, becuase as long as it stays in our memories, it stays alive. :D

Me 2 but i also play in antiAC.net a german server 2 but its really good
I like the fact to, but originally bedwars was adapted by a server called craftgames.eu. They started with the original rush version as their base and then released bw. Then the dustmc server network came around and took bedwars into their gamemodes just to let gommehd.net grab it at the end as the biggest server network in eu at that time at least.
Oh, I remember playing on GommeHD A LOT back then.
But later I played bedwars on other servers such as BerwerkLabs (which sadly shut down) because they had a really interesting version of bedwars.
Seeing the GommeHD bedwars clips was so nostalgic for me, when the server was still popular and PvP was still enjoyable for me

I do wish that servers such as hypixel would have a lobby called "OG games" or something just for all the original games, and maybe some forgotten ones, I remember back in the day on stampy's channel he had some good ideas for mini games that servers never stole, they could take those and maybe shout him out, revive his channel a little bit. (and yes I know that there is a classic lobby but its not that good to be honest)
A majority of Stampy's minigames wouldn't really be good for more than 4 people and a lot would be broken, so sadly there wouldn't be that many they could even use. However if there are some that could be made into good functioning minigames on a server that would be pretty cool, I also am not sure how many minigames Stampy has since I stopped watching years ago around episode 200 or something like that
Big Daddy stampy is still making videos and mini-games at the same quality.

Most Minecraft servers don't have the player base to support that. It also requires extra dev time since those games have to be maintained and kept working.
Legacy games
Cubecraft really popularized the rush mini game as well I remember big TH-camrs like Preston and PeteZahHutt would play eggwars on it

@@Eli-ou8sq I disagree. Yes, I think the game is well balanced and functional. However, that doesn't mean that there's nothing they can add. A while back, there was a rotating item in a separate tab in the shopkeeper. Then it just kinda disappeared. I just wish we had something like that; something besides a GOD DANG MAP ROTATION every once in a while. AND THE MAPS ARENT EVEN THAT GOOD. Like bruh. New maps that cater to fb spammers and obi rushers aren't content. If the game never updates, it's going to die eventually.
They have the rotation mini games like castle voidless rush and ultimate. But apart from the occasional map rotation it’s not much. They should refresh it with some new mechanics or content.
I wish voidless was more permanent, or rush. They are.both very fun and I would.like to see them more often rather than castle wars, where u are put into a game with only one bed left and no resources
@@Eli-ou8sq Well I think there should be a version of bedwars with 1.9+ combat instead of 1.8- combat, so the pvp is more about skill and less about fast mouse clicking.
I always considered Trouble in Mineville to be one of the classics ever since I saw Yogscast Martyn play it. Maybe it could get included in a part 2. Parkour and TNT games also classic.

Good as always! I think the real subjectivity of "plagued by kits" could and should have been stated more, and the fact that you missed egg wars as a part of bedwars' history

I just wanna start my comment with that I really appreciate your videos and they always seem so well researched and I love to go back in time a bit to when I was still good in PvP haha^^
This time tho I'm not quite sure about your bedwars journey: I think in between Rush and Bedwars on Gomme there was a quite similar mode called Aero playable on Dust.mc. It had the same design, you get bronze on your home base and can go to other players islands, with the biggest difference to be that not only was there a middle island spawning gold, but in between 2 player bases there were iron bases, so you also had to branch out to the iron bases which opened the game a bit more up and also gave you more stuff to fight over. And if i remember correctly that was before Bedwars came live on GommeHD (I think i played it around 2013).
P.S.: Just did a sloppy research: most youtube videos from aero are 6 years old, most bedwars videos are also 6 years old, so the games may have come to life at the same time, still I think Aero was playable before GommeHD even opened (I'm german and watched Gomme alot at that time). But I'm not 100% sure.

great video ! But you should be talking about the minigames that are on the leggacy console edition, which have their subtlety but are very inspired by certain minigames you talked about in your video.
elytra racing is the single most fun experiance in this game. damn, i love it so much
It's pretty sad to remember playing this with friends and families but never be able to go back, because nowadays as you said, have tons of plug-ins and extra content in it, which made it way worse and complicated

@@dreemurr64 off topic on Cube without a rank u can only make a party 3 Players big. And you need at least an Iron rank to choose a game (you want to play, when you click u join a random game. ) in the server. Where are the old Times u can join a game with sings...

I’m only halfway through the video and I had to stop, drop a comment, and acknowledge that you brought me back to my childhood with 10k+ hours watching and playing minecraft
I remember the time I played on Lifeboat server for hunger games on Pocket Edition, back then the server lobby is just a floating island. Then there were multiple server hubs like sg64. But recent years the ping is very bad (at least from my perspective), and very little player played, most the time are just waiting. And nowadays, Hunger games doesn't exists anymore on the server and is replace by battle royale (i guess it's the same but you need to fly down, unlike the original start from middle). But sadly I only remembered 1 original hunger game map in the very early days of the server (SG4)

I realise that this video is dated, but since I've been taking a nostalgic dive back through my old TH-cam channel, Minecraft maps and what not, I thought I'd chip into this discussion. I'm not trying to claim I was the original creator of Sky Wars/Bed Wars, but I was arguably one of the early creators for the gamemode.
In October 2012, I originally released a downloadable map called Sky Wars (what was at the time essentially a Bed Wars map), which received significant traction over the coming years, but didn't really take-off until a couple of years later. This was succeeded by Sky Wars 2.0, a revamped version of the original map. At the time both maps were used on the server MCZone, some of you might have played on this server as it was one of the largest at the time (c. 2010-2017 - although I could be wrong there!), and eventually I added it to my server network MCSquared, whilst it was active for a couple of years.
To this day I am shocked to find that both the original Sky Wars map and Sky Wars 2.0 are still receiving regular downloads on planetminecraft (*insert nostalgic smile*) - either way, as a gamemode I am a huge fan of Sky Wars/Bed Wars, although the fast-paced action that most servers seemed to have adopted deteriorates from the vision I originally had in mind, nonetheless, it's still great fun :)

Bedwars still remains the last big minigame on Hypixel that hasn't been ruined with kits

I didnt know Gomme had such an influence on bedwars. I always played on it back in the day but I never thought it was the first server to adopt this format

Skyblock Warriors is still the best Minecraft mini game! I've been playing since 2010 and nothing has brought the Hype like Skyblock Warriors.
The bedwars fact isn't fully correct. GommeHD was not the first server to implement bedwars like it's known today.
A smaller german server called DustMC made a gamemode called "Aero" in 2014. It was the first server that implemented the concept of fighting for gold and silver, with one island for gold in the center and four islands for silver on the diagonals.
GommeHD only improved upon that concept with multiple maps and a better shop, as Aero had only one static map and the same villagers as Ximua's Rush map did.
DustMC doesn't exist anymore today, but old videos of Aero can still be found on TH-cam.
I honestly feel sorry for all these people who didn't play bedwars on gommehd back then. It had a lot less sweaty players and had thousands of players. Hypixel still has good bedwars, but it never got close to how bedwars on gomme was.

Survival Games actually has a semi-popular server running the original MCSG version, with the old maps and no kits. it's called Backplay, look it up.

i remember a server that was basically uhc but you would still regen. you would join and wait for enough players in a fresh world with some chests and would fight other players. you were kicked from the server on death. 2013

In certain games kits and perks are fine as long as they are easy and obtainable (like hypixel skywars) but in games like blitz kits are just terrible

i actually built my own version of Rush gamemode on minecraft ps4 edition back when there was no commands or command blocks to do the fancy stuff. i went on a whim and because i had no internet for a few days i got building on a version of skywars that was more primitive not knowing it was the old version of bedwars i was making. i had to use the forgotten redstone mechanic that locks repeaters when another repeater facing it gets powered to do the currency dropping which was wood, stone, iron, diamond and only each tier above had to have had the previous tier dropped 5 times before it would drop the next. i still have this world on my ps4 but i am not sure if it works anymore

I used to love the walls and megawalls sm. Megawalls was my favorite because I could play with my cousin and help the team despite not being great at pvp.
German here . Me and some other german think the root of bedwars lies in another older server called dustmc.de which was a small Minigame server hosted by one of the lesser known german let's-players called "Rotpilz". Before the GommeHD server started the popular Minigame called bedwars there was an Minigame on dustmc.de which was a mixture between rush and bedwars. On a static map 4 teams would fight over the middle island which provides gold and silver

Being a bedwars player, having the islands closer together doesnt make it easier for new players 😂😂
Tango tek's Decked out should be a minigame in servers it looks so fun
there was an explosion of new minigames when 1.8 came out, one such mode was called missile wars, in which players used slime block flying machines spawned in by randomly dropped eggs to break through the enemy teams layer of glass and destroy their nether portal

The kits in megawalls are LITERALLY THE POINT. They add some strategy to the game and make it more fun with the abbilitys, it would get old really fast without them

For the bedwars segment, you should have talked about eggwars, mainly on cubecraft and maybe cakewars.

idk about xbox, but the old minecraft, (ps4 edition) before it was updated to look like the xbox one version, they had a original spleef minigame and when i used to play it, there were a decent amount of people. This is before they added servers to minecraft ps4 edition. Even though spleef isn't played that much anymore, you can still go to an older version of ps4 minecraft and play some spleef. There is still some people on that.

Don't know if it's a mini game or not but another game I used to play because of mindcrack was Dwarves vs Zombies.
IIRC the original game/server shut down 2018-2019 but there are a few independent servers dedicated to DvZ although they're really not that active outside of schedule games once or twice a week.
After GommeHD and before Bedwars, a server called CubeCraft released eggwars and it was quite popular too, their skywars was also quite popular

I remember watching distantly minecraft game by antivenom from many many years ago, but j forgot the name of the game. It was weird and complex with huges teams and other stuff that I cant picture easily

On my old PS4 before they changed the version there were 3 gamemodes hungry games the same as survival tumble which was spleef and a elytra map I really liked them and the only way you can try it is on PS4 or xbox I think and you have to go to settings or somthing
