    Update: I think Tatsugiri is now in low B tier. It's very cute and I like how it inflates its throat sack to look like sushi. I guess I just don't like its 3D model. (and team artwork) Its official art looks much better.

    I think we’ve reached a point where “that doesn’t feel like a pokémon” doesn’t really apply anymore. The definition of a pokémon design is constantly changing and I’m happy to see them branch out more with designs rather than staying with what a select group of people sees as conventional

      I chose Quaxly as my starter, though after it and Lokix (which is my new #1 overall), Floragato is easily my third favorite new Pokémon. I don't even really like Sprigatito or Meowscarada, but Floragato is just so perfectly executed.

    I dont think I've ever heard anyone else say this before but one thing that's brilliant about the sprigatito line is that it's quite clearly a pointed cat (siamese, Burmese, ragdoll, etc) and the points (and often backs) of pointed cats really do get darker as it matures, just like meowscarada. I love it so much.

    I’m a proud Flamigo defender because I love how subtle the inspirations are.
    Like firstly, the body resembles a punching glove when the wing is closed, also the neck being tied into a knot also references balloon animals. For this Pokémon, it’s energy is literally air and I think that’s funny as hell.
    I also like the shiny too, the more faded pink I think either references lawn flamingos losing their colour in the sun, or perhaps a stronger flamigo. Like it has more air which means the balloon is stretched out more, resulting in that more faded colour.
    There’s obviously more to this Pokémon lol, I’ll wait for Lockstin’s video, but I do very much love how many aspects they’ve incorporated in such a simple design, and the name is just the cherry on top. It directly tells people that yes this is a flamingo, but just a bit different.

    I like that Mabostiff's big soulful puppy eyes are just fake eyespots on its fur, and the real eyes are the bright orange dots. Arven's Mabostiff may be the goodest boy, but the general Pokemon design is definitely 'mob boss pretending to be sweet and innocent.'
    I'm also a fan of the design choice of all four Ruin Pokemon being the item (dish, beads, tablets, sword) with the body being some material they just formed around the vessel.

    You definitely aren't alone in liking Wo-Chien the best out of the Treasures of Ruin. You put into words perfectly how I feel about it. The tablets' animation on Wo-Chien's back, the eyes, the vines that come out when it attacks(or, how I first saw them, when it plays in Camp), all tied up together as an evil snail monster is something that works really, really well. What does it mean to be a “feral” Pokémon? You say past jiggly puff, amoongus and misdreavos have boring design when they all have different aspects of ancient or feral. They didn’t just put feathers on all of the past Pokémon and called it a day. Instead they chose to put feathers on past misdreavous instead of just making it a more dangerous spooky ghost. They chose to give jigglypuff an entire new appendage that functions as a hair peices which was a tiny part of its design as well as a tail. These are not just a dangerous more feral version of these Pokémon, they are taking specific aspects of their design to enchance in different ways that are all different from other past Pokémon.

  • @RPGGOD1

    I feel when it comes to the Past vs. Future Paradox forms it comes down to execution. Yes you could argue that the Past forms are all primal, but I feel the way they approached that concept allowed for more variety in their designs and concepts. Sandy Shocks for instance could be argued to be a caveman, but it also incorporates magnetic sand into its design which works well with Magneton's original concept and makes it stand out even if the main theme is ancient/primal. I feel the same way about most of the others Past forms as well, especially Roaring Moon and Slither Wing with the former incorporating Mega Salamence's design and the latter taking cues from Larvesta.
    With the Future Forms I feel the issues I have with them comes down to two-fold. The first is that Future doesn't mean all the designs have to be robotic. Even if the theme is a dystopian future there are still concepts and ideas that you can take from there that isn't exclusively robotic such as hybrids and the decay of the natural world (think Cursola), but I feel the only ones that really play into that are Iron Valiant (as it's a hybrid) and maybe Iron Hands. Another issue with the direction is that they could've done more with the concept. Iron Jugulis for instance we both agree is the least changed, but I feel what hurts even more is that there were multiple ways to take the design then just 'robot Hydreigon' even if thy stuck to the robot theme. You could've used the old tank concept it had, they could've played into the Mecha King Ghidorah idea like Iron Thorns with Mecha Godzilla, they could've made the extra heads operate like satellites around the main body, and so on. It feels like there were more missed opportunities with these potential designs, and while I'm not going to pretend Past forms are free of that, I do feel Future forms did miss the mark more often for me.
    But that's just my two cents. I enjoyed your tier list and I appreciated you giving your thoughts on all of the Pokemon even if I didn't agree with them. It's just this particular point I felt like talking about since I wanted to give my thoughts on it.

      A ghost ice future form Beartic would be fire ngl

    • @bluekirby_64
      @bluekirby_64 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You could make the opposite point and say that the future forms executed their "robot" theme in different ways while the past ones were all turned into dinosaurs.
      Although the past forms are less uniform than the future ones, they all still get the same features from a pre-set pool: fangs, yellow eyes with red eyeliner and a reptile pupil (except Scream Tail and Sandy Shocks who keep the same pupil shape), a tail, and extra scales/spikes coming out of their bodies.
      Meanwhile, the future forms have more to their execution than what you gave them credit for, coming from their animations. Iron Treads' wheel rolling while the rest of its body stays still, Iron Valiant wielding its blades as a weapon in addition to being a fusion like you mentioned, Iron Bundle getting a spring-loaded head like a Christmas toy, ski feet and a fire hydrant tail.
      I won't act like they don't have less interesting members like Iron Thorns and Jugulis, but so do the past forms with things such as Scream Tail and Flutter Mane.
      It's pretty ironic how the past forms are the ones people keep analyzing and detailing much like a scientist, while the future forms are the ones where they go caveman mode and all they have to say is "unga bunga robot bad".

    • @RPGGOD1
      @RPGGOD1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bluekirby_64 Yet not all of them share those features. Sandy Shocks for instance has no reptilian pupils, no fangs, no eyeliner, no scales, and the 'spikes' are magnetic sand, the only thing it has is yellow eyes and tail. Slither Wing has no fangs, reptilian pupils or eyeliner or scales (at least no more than Volcarona did), and so on. For every trait you mention, you can usually pick out at least two or three who don't share them, and some traits are already shared with their present counterparts like a tail for Roaring Moon. With Future Forms all of them have robotic bodies and it's a more apparent trait since, well, that's their entire body. It's a unifying trait shared among the entirety of the group and none of them started as robots or with robotic like bodies to account for it. So that trait is more notable to pick at by comparison.
      And some of those animations are nice. Iron Jugulis for instance, who I believe is the most criticized Paradox form, has a LED screen that has cute animations. However, that also applies to Past Paradoxes. I've seen many people write off Slither Wing for instance but then get pleasantly surprised when it stands up. Also, animations do help a design and concept, but it doesn't mean it always saves them either. I've seen many fans acknowledge Iron Treads animations for instance, but still dislike it for the base design not being appealing.
      And we agree and I've seen others agree, there are weak links in both. However, people are looking at things as a group and for many they just find the Past forms more appealing. Trying to dismiss people's opinions as 'unga booga, future forms robots, past forms better' is being as caveman mode as the people you're accusing of. Some may be doing that, but many others have other reasons for gravitating towards the Past forms.

      people who chide the whole "quadraped over biped" nonsense often seem to forget that a lot of the broadly beloved starters (Charizard, Typhlosion, Sceptile, Infernape, Greninja, Decidueye etc.) are all bipedal; whereas one of the most unanimously least liked starters (Magenium) is a quarupedal through and through

    • @intergalactic92
      @intergalactic92 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me it is not the fact that it is bipedal. I have no issues with this. I also happen to really like Floragato, probably my favourite of the new starter pokemon (of any stage).
      My issue is more down to the fact that Meowscarada is overtly feminine….

      @@intergalactic92 I don't consider it feminine personally more just eccentric, it's a magician that's proud of it's tricks and wants to appeal to the crowd. If you mean design then yeah I guess sorta, but I love the personality. I think the design is just gender neutral enough that it works. Idk if all starters are male but both of my games my grass cat was a guy and I just named it Sprite and Best boy, but thanks for the input

    @figgy6666 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Part of me feels like you're displacing some of your frustration about the Pawmi line on Pawmot when, at least in my opinion, the actual offensive member of the line is Pawmo. Like you and others have pointed out that Pawmot is just a Pawmi standing up, which uses the exaggerated version of literally cause obviously there are significant differences between the two, but Pawmo is textbook, Merriam Webster dictionary definition of the word "literally" just Pawmi standing up. It's not even that much bigger than Pawmi. Now I don't think Pawmot is like amazing or anything, but it's definitely a more developed evolution for Pawmi that I think is pretty ok. Like it gives slightly more developed Gen 1 evolution energy where the evolution is just the prevo but larger and with more flair which is unremarkably fine imo. Pawmo, however, stretches that out too much. It'd be like if there was a middle evolution between Ekans and Arbok that was a slightly longer, slightly meaner Ekans. If Pawmo didn't exist (which I feel it only exists cause Pikachu is a 3 pokemon line but that's another matter) I don't think there'd be as much disappointment with it as there currently is.
    tl;dr I don't like Pawmo but I like this video cause it got me thinking about what makes a good/bad pokemon line.

    • @truegreen7
      @truegreen7  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      But I literally stated that a standing up Pawmi is still visually appealing to me, while giving it hair and inflating the head is visually uncanny in my opinion. I love how many layers there are in the design of this Pokemon, like how the position of the tails in each form mirrors the appearance of the types of nigiri they are based off of (they even have slightly different cries that change pitch based on the position of the tail) and how the shinies add three more types of nigiri, instead of just being colour swaps. Plus, I love how devious and cunning their little squinty eyes make them look, even though they're such a silly concept. This isn't even mentioning the symbiosis with dondozo that the Pokemon was designed around! Tatsugiri's easily an S tier for me 😊

    I think the reason for the complaints with paradox forms are a bit more justified than that.
    All the past forms are more feral, but they're all feral in different ways. Roaring Moon takes inspiration from Mega Salamence and Great Tusk is donphan before it was able to curl up in a ball.
    Meanwhile all of the future forms are JUST robotized versions, with the most unique being Iron Galient being a two-in-one. It also doesn't help they all have "Iron" in their name, unlike the past forms which all have different names. Their shinies all just make them lose all or one color as well, with no other changes, so they really are just metallic versions of the pokemon.
    I will grant that at least they aren't all steel type, but they didn't all have to be designed to look it. We could have gotten more refined versions of modern pokemon, and instead we got a bunch of robots resembling modern pokemon.
    You could say we got a bunch of monstrous pokemons resembling modern pokemon for Scarlet, but looking at the real world and dinosaurs, at least they make sense. They should make non-robotic violet pokemon in (if any) upcoming DLC.
    Also personally Chi-Yu is the best of the quartet, with others being a low-poly moose, a swamp slug, and a Chien-Po which I think would be better if it had the sword implimented differently. I don't like the handle being on of its teeth.
