MY BOY BETTER BE AT THE TOP
edit: DANGIT I’LL MAKE HIM WORK YOULL SEE
I was going to say who is your boy then I looked at the name
RIP ramprdos
I love rampardos myself, so hopefully he’ll work
I respect the grind
the mon must be good it has a whole theorem 😶
Every calc I do is "This doesn't one-shot Incin?" and "Raging Bolt does how much/takes that little?"
Bruh, standard assault vest iron hands drain punch barely 3 shots bulky Incin after an intimidate.
@@Endershock1678 I can barely comprehend how bulky Incin is
I have resorted to Silk Scarf Hyper Beam Porygon-Z, Tera ghost if I need to bypass fake out.
@@commandergs1390 I was just thinking about running Z as a nuke to blast some of these fat Mons
Omg how could you do this to my precious megainium! CANCELLED!!!
Meganinium checks 80% of the metagame if you think about it
DISLIKE BOTS COMING RIGHT UP
The only way they could make it better is by adding mega that adds the ice type and giving it only defensive stats
Lmfao😂
@@WeirdMagnusand then dies to a fire blitz from incineroar
Absurdly curious if hitmontop could have the smallest of niches cuz he’s like, maybe the only “passable” support mon with upper hand? Know we were all hyped for that move in particular only for it to get no distribution where it mattered, but maybe hitmontop could cook??????
I mean, Hitmontop is in the Good Tier, so that should tell you a little bit
I feel like Poliwrath MAY be another one. Poliwrath's Upper Hand is able to stop Incin's Fake Out and pretty much anyone else's while under Rain. And with Clear Amulet, it can hit Incineroar hard with both stabs and prevent him from pivoting out with Parting Shot
Idk about VGC, but unburden + psychic seed, endure, reversal, SD, throat chop is actually a pretty cool anti-meta pick. Or you can run endure + weakness policy, reversal, upper hand, throat chop and coverage since sneasler is the only thing that out speeds and you can't use priority
Feel like malamar could be a closed team sheet menace because it has skillswap contrary this gen so could give a one of the eon duo contrary and have them click deco metro Probably pretty bad though
I feel like there’s room to make it work on something
Honestly, Skill Swap Contrary into a lot of potential partners with anything from Draco to Headlong rush seems funny.... I'd do a team with at least 2 if not 3 good contrary users... Good? I didn't say that. Do I wanna do it anyway? Kinda.
If you skill swap a mon with protosynthesis, do they keep the boost?
@@FistingGuru you can't get rid of the paradox abilities
Someone made a contrary Hydrapple with Draco meteor set with Malamar, and it looked amazing
Hear me out so Liquid Voice makes Psychic Noise a Water move meaning you can stop healing on a lot good stuff. This is a big deal that a lot of people are sleeping on.
Holy shit that’s nuts
@@krumdark Used the idea tonight off recording to test it before I maybe used it in a video. Throat Spray into Psychic Noise. Nobody expects it and the heal block stops Berries. Meaning with support Incineroar is hard walled by this use of Psychic Noise. Scald is only 80 Base Power so in effect for 5 less Base Power you have a Water move that stops healing. People got way to focused on Hyper Voice. This Psychic Noise idea is solid. I was using Dazzling Gleam to keep some spread damage. It was so nice having good single target Water damage like this.
@@cartergamegeekthe problem is
What move do you give up to use Psychic Noise?
You can't give up HyperVoice and a Fairy stab
The ice coverage is almost mandatory
Protect must be there if you're not running av
@@kingt1954 you give up hyper voice is the point. psychic noise is for a single target water move with utility added to it .
Crowns Incineroar as lone S tier gigachad.
Refuses to elaborate.
Leaves.
Suicune with roar, snarl, scald, tailwind with leftovers honestly takes some insane hits and it can be super annoying, big fan
One thing of note is that Slaking and Regigias got double edge for the first time in the dlc as a tm so we haven't seem what they can do with stab better than body slam. Likely still copium tho since keeping weezing alive is a problem.
Keeping Wheezing alive is easy tbh. Thing is tanky af. I think Gigas is gonna be better than Slacking due to having Wide Guard.
Not to be that guy or anything, but serp has some sets where it can sweep with Tera fire. Leaf storm allows you to invest a bit more in other stats aside from special attack, including bulk to allow it to survive from way too many things. Also ability shield serp combined with weezing is weirdly good, i reccomend it.
I’ve been testing with tera ground personally and i’m a big fan
@@mattkenney1491 imo Tera fire is slightly better, as it works both defensively and offensively, with ground pretty much only helping grass offensively, but both are good
I’ve seen some success with stellar tera, I’ve paired Serperior with Thundurus where I can eerie impulse myself for a boost and blow something up. It’s a very fun team.
@@thej73 that’s an interesting strat, might try that myself lol
The full team I used was Serperior, Thundurus, Incineroar, Latios, Flutter Mane, and Urshifu. Thundurus does surprisingly well into Raging Bolt with eerie impulse and taunt but struggles against double giraffe and needs to be careful around Kingambit. Urshifu is tera grass swords dance since it helps with that matchup. Latios is standard life orb attacker with tailwind and tera fire to tank flutter mane. Serperior has Protect, Leaf Storm, Tera Blast, and Glare. The neutral coverage on a boosted tera blast is very useful and picking off terastalized targets is also very valuable. I also run the focus sash item on it so it can always live a hit. Good luck with the strat!
Smeargle pottentially wants burning bullwark over spiky shield this gen, depending on how many taunters it runs into
252+ Atk Choice Band Water Bubble Tera Water Araquanid Liquidation vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Kyogre in Rain: 331-390 (97 - 114.3%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
I love this Pokemon. I don't think it'll see that much success, but I can hope
Araquanid is such a funny nuke Pokemon, and no one expects it to nuke you as hard as it does
I’m real mad that Raging Bolt and Gouging Fire are one of a kind. I’ve got Violet and don’t have the time or cash to buy and grind through Scarlet and get them. No shot on someone just gifting them to me or trade for them or some such. I’m hoping we get Raids for them, but I’m too much of a cynic to hold my breath.
Yeah, when it comes to paradox mons, Scarlet definitely got the better deal. It´s truly a shame that the new ones are just one-per-savefile, so there is only small chance you will find somebody who is willing to trade his, especialy since they are also very good competitively.
If you want Raging Bolt and Gouging Flame you could use AustinJohns trade codes for version exclusives
berichandev on twitch can get them for you
Simple solution
Genning
I got mine the GTS, there's a lot of people trading them for iron boulder/crown to fill the dex. Only problem is that now you don't have those, but you can get them again from another save file
Pretty sure Metagross will run Hard Press as it's steel of choice now. There are very few instances where Heavy Slam will KO while neither Hard Press or Bullet Punch are able to, and it will much more reliably be 120 base power.
no meteor mash?
@@SamStarbucker Nah. When the opponent is full HP, Hard Press is 50% stronger and 100% accurate vs Meteor Mash's 90, and stays stronger until they are at 67%. Especially if you are also running Bullet Punch, the situations where you'd rather Meteor Mash than either of those options are niche enough to warrant avoiding the move.
They also got psychic fangs and knock off for the first time
Actually, from what I saw on Bulbapedia, both Crush Grip and Hard Press have capped their damage at 100 rather than 120
Hard press caps at 100bp and metagross is like 1250 lbs so heavy slam is 120bp against 95% of things
They really need to give Vileplume something new to help it differentiate from Venusaur and Amoonguss. I think Triage would be a cool ability for it
33:52 "Welcome to your throne, king,"
Confused how venusaur and meganium still don’t have pollen puff and rage powder.
I feel like Vileplume could be a pretty good supportive pokemon. It gets access to moves like sleep powder, strength sap, pollen puff, acid spray, sunny day, teeter dance, helping hand, and after you. It can run effect spore and rocky helmet to punish pokemon like urshifu and incineroar for trying to attack you. However I will admit that Vileplume has a pretty bad speed stat and only okay bulk. Probably not gonna be meta defining or anything but it can definitely have a niche
Are people still using it with Torkoal to get sun-boosted after you eruptions off?
@@borismuller86 No, it did do that in pre-dlc gen 8. hisuian lilligant is a faster chlorophyll user with after you, so in most cases it's just better to use that.
Vileplume has never been great in VGC, I’m more interested in how it does in singles. It’s been on the rise in last few gens so let’s hope that trend continues.
@@discodeath8425 I don't play singles but I heard that Vileplume is pretty good in lower tiers
Bro, Tera Water Araquanid is insane. In rain, while Tera, holding Mystic Water, with Water Bubble and STAB, its Liquidation is 1,224 base power, without type multipliers. It’s a 6.3% roll to OHKO Abomasnow with max Attack
Every day I mourn the loss of that fake leak that claimed Golurk would get Hypnosis. It would've been the funniest Spore mon in VGC
Intimidate Malamar huh? I do hope someone does fun stuff with Contrary Skill Swap at least!
Somebody ran contrary Malamar with hydrapple for stat boosting draco meteors, looked pretty fun
It's funny that everyone is I see telling Stella Tera is bad only talks about the buffs and completely ignores the ability to snipe teralyzed Pokémon.
Like it was a minor thing, but it's the mechanics core.
I knew incineroar was a menace, I love incineroar's shiny, I caught it, trained competitve wise (exactly like other gens but + knock off (how did it get buffed???)), and damn, no attack investment and it's still *that* high. He deserves the throne.
I think Electivire will be more usable now, thanks to Clear Amulet allowing it to properly use its physical Atk and it now learning Bulk Up this gen. It can also Tera Water to make its only weakness Grass thanks to Motor Drive, and since Rillaboom is so prevalent, Tera Flying can be a backup. Also has decent coverage in the new Supercell Slam, elemental punches, Cross Chop and Knock Off.
If I remember correctly, he also could utilize the regained follow me to possibly divert electric attacks too
Same can be said for bastiodon thanks to it getting Body press and iron defense, two moves that work very well for it
Ice punch with bulk up for grass and ground
Tbh sometimes I believe people tend to understimate iron crown and boulder. Like, Boulder is Urshifu rock and just needs to tera, and Iron Crown doesnt even needs that. It can just expanding force everything short of incineroar
Meawhile, I feel Gouginh Fire will not perform as good as people expect him too. Idk, just a hunch
Iron Crown being weak to sucker hurts it quite a bit
You don’t know why Urshifu is such a problem if you think Iron Boulder is Urshifu Rock. Hitting through protect, good, great even. But what makes Urshifu so overwhelming is always crit means you can’t slow it down with intimidate, screens, or defense boosts, its typing is good to even great, with it usually wanting to opt for water Tera to both give it an amazing defensive type and boost it’s damage more, it can boost its damage even more in rain, it break focus sashes, and the grass types that resist surging strikes take a ton of damage from Bleakwind Storm. And to top it off, it has a priority move in Aqua Jet
Meanwhile, Boulder gets slowed down heavily by intimidate, is weak to literally everything in the meta right now and it’s never good to be a Tera sink, and only hits through protect on a single rock move that’s weaker than surging strike and coming off a lower attack.
@@Endershock1678also, ALL of urshis move hit through protect, not just one. But yea, mostly the multihit crit thing that gets even stronger in rain lol
@@HallowedKeeper_if your running iron crown your running indeedee lol so sucker punch isn’t doing anything
I’ve actually been able to put in some type of work with Sceptile for once. In double battles at least, I paid it wuth Greninja snd use water and grass pledge, shed tail, and I gave it dragon cheer and cheer on my tera dragon Maushold. Not sure how good that strategy is it’s just something I randomly came up with, but it works fairly well for the most part
What do you mean Meganium’s not good????? I used Rocky Helmet and it beat uh- it 1v1s Urshifu…
yay moxie boosted video :D
Agreed
I like cinccino :)
Edit: cinccino is actually really good, it gets tidy up, allowing it to outspeed some choice scarfed mons, and now that the loaded dice exists, it can use tecision to boost those multi hitting moves
Hate how lanturn gets everything you would want a bulky pivot to have and stats hold it back from ever being what we want it to be.
Golurk gets Klutz and Trick to put Assault Vest onto supports like Torn :^)
I know it sucks but more importantly, its funny.
i feel like blastoise should get either swift swim or the more unlikely case, drizzle to actually give it a niche
I feel like mega launcher would be the perfect thing for it I know it was its mega evo ability it would boost pulse moves to be pretty strong on a bulky mon while also being able to hold a item
We have successfully prevented children from commenting “First”
Made 3 guys forfeit turn one with choice band tera normal explosion regirock so it has to be at least A tier
What are the reasons behind the ev investments? What benchmarks are "mandatory" to meet and why? Isn't it impossible to predict what you'll be up against?
E.g. 16:14 What's the basis for assuming other hitmontops won't have higher speed investment?
I can't believe you said Cosmog was F tier, my rocky helmet Cosmog set can 1v1 Urshifu.... probably. Let me cook.
What’s the Pokémon that can’t be named??
What New Pokémon he can't talk about in this video I'm confused 😮😮😮😮
Man I was literally typing my Kingdra Dragon Cheer comment right as he said that somebody will say that in the comments 😔
Heavy Slam failed on dynamax mons thats why you basically couldnt run it
Archaludon's Mid speed and 100 attack is really wasted
i wish they just made him an all round bulky trick room Rain abusing nuke
You are correct.
That 100 attack stat is literally worthless.
10 or more points on Sp Def would of made a hell of a difference.
Assault Vest is the only thing that can make it worthwhile.
B.Ursaluna has the same problem.
I’m surprised Cinccino wasn’t atleast c tier now that you can can run technician with loaded dice
I think the biggest issue is that it’s still worse Wide Lens Population Bomb Maushold. I hope to see it anyway.
@@PitxLinkFOREVAH Maushold also gets Friend Guard, which is a little nuts.
one buff i wish they would of done is give regice iron defence it would have made it viable with body press, even if it is just a little
I can see smeargle running burning bulwark instead of spiky shield
What pokemon are they copyright striking over? Terapagos?
I think Latias is still slept on. It’s a bulky Tailwind setter with recovery, good STAB, and coverage. Unlike most other Tailwind setters, it can live a couple of hits with not that much investment. Pair that with Rocky Helmet and you have a bulky monster.
Not to mention it can basically wall Urshifu-Rapid.
Latios has been my favorite Pokémon for decades, and I’m happy luster purge finally got buffed. I’ve been running Tera electric with thunderbolt to get rid of his billion weaknesses from his typing, and stab thunderbolt has been pretty useful for dealing with all the water types I’ve been coming across
I know Minior is not great, but I really want to climb the ladder with him. I think it could be decent next to clefairy. Redirect for shell smash and then you have a fast rock slide with a rather bulky mon. Not saying it is great, but I am thinking about it.
I mean Minior is pretty fun, definitely recommend It for an Alolan themed team or something like that :0
"This is my second time doing this because I forgot to record the first time" 💀
As a noob to competitive, I've heard you mention "bumps" a couple of times when referencing EVs, can you explain a bit about that? For reference, you mentioned hitting an attack bump on adamant Gouging Fire at 196. What makes that a bump, exactly?
Basically every few EVs you get 2 more points instead of 1
im sorry, meganium fans
252+ Atk Urshifu-Rapid-Strike Surging Strikes (3 hits) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Meganium in Rain on a critical hit: 63-72 (33.6 - 38.5%) -- approx. 3HKO
What's the pokemon thats been getting copyright striked?
It's one that was datamined and is otherwise unavailable, kinda like mythicals in past gens. Though in this case it's going to be in the epilogue for the DLC in January, I believe.
i took the BOoOoOLT,
to pooortland🎶
18:20 As someone who has tried Dragon Cheer + Sniper Kingdra, I will say... this thing is not worth it lmao, it has quite a few problems
This is a format with a lot of Dragon types and Flutter Mane is still everywhere (And, as you said in the vid, Bundle is also relevant). This makes Kingdra really want to Tera ASAP (personally think it likes Tera Steel + Flash Cannon), but the problem is that with the way Dragon Cheer works, Kingdra needs to be a Dragon at the time Dragon Cheer is used to get the +2 Crit instead of +1, meaning you will need at least one turn of Kingdra being a dragon to get the most value out of it (Which, in other words, just means you are kinda forced to run Protect). Not just that, but after Kingdra terastalizes, if it switches out at any point in the match it will lose its +2 Crit as well, with any subsequent Cheer giving it only +1
That aside, if you are running Kingdra for Dragon Cheer, you are most likely running Sniper, which in turn means you're passing on Swift Swim, so you're stuck with Kingdra's base 85 Speed. This means Kingdra will not only need Dragon Cheer support, it will also need some sort of speed control support (one could try to make a case for agility, but you're already locking one moveslot to Protect and it runs into the exact same issues Swift Swim would've, but with a way higher cost of a moveslot)
And even all that said... what are you using Dragon Cheer on? The only decent support options I've found with this move are Milotic, Gyarados, Hisuian Goodra, maybe Dragapult if you value the speed (and in this specific case of Kingdra, Iron Jugulis gets Tailwind so one could try that to patch up the aforementioned speed issues with Kingdra); but I feel like all the mons that get this move don't really want to drop any of their current options just to give an ally increased crit.
In other words, "Yeah sure I guess" is absolutely appropriate for Kingdra. If you really wanna use Dragon Cheer, you're better off pairing it with either a fast special Dragon that wants to spam Draco Meteor or with a mon that has moves with high crit like Ogerpon. Kingdra ain't it
Who’s the pokemon who can’t be named? I’m lost.
what was the pokemon that wasnt named?
Metagross with Hard Press plus bullet punch is really good
not trying to be that guy but i think vileplume can be a solid sun supporter. It gets sleep powder, after you and helping hand which can be really helpfull if youre looking for a bulky sun supporter that doesent get hit by urshifu to hard and can kinda deal with it due to strenght sap. It is competing with venusaur and hisuian liligant so it will be very niche but its worth a mention
Crazy how much booster speed invalidates so many old mons
I can see it being nerfed to 30% in the future.
@@Ryodraco Bold of you to assume they'll bring back Paradox mons next gen lol!
@@lynxfresh5214 not necessarily next gen, but all Pokémon species get brought back at some point.
Sucks that the in game description for water bubble does not say it doubles water moves.
You're telling me Plusle isn't going to dethrone Incinceroar this format? I dunno man, I have a hard time believing that.
Which pokemon cant he talk about?
They needed to nerf Violet to balance the fact that it has Brian Hands
Scarlet had better designed visually speaking Paradox mons, and Flutter Mane. Us Violet Players lose again
Rampardos MIGHT be okay in trock room, you are slower than 90% of what can KO you and you have a monster attack stat... but other than that.... nah, Rampardos is trash
Scarf Rampardos actually slaughters for me
1:41 is a part of the video nobody seemed to watch
Edit: btw really good list! My playthrough team was luckily out of good luck entirely.
Archaludon is A
I dont know about any calcs but malamar has skill swap with contrary. Just something interesting.
What is the one getting copyright struck
Araquinid not getting Wave Crash is a crime
Tera Water Choice Band 252atk+ Wave Crash in Rain would ohko Kyogre
The thing about Kingdra this gen is that it can run physical sets since it got Dragon Dance and a lot of new physical moves (no good dragon STAB tho)
But generally it's still meh..
Btw Bastiodon got Foul Play xD
Metagroooooos 🙌🙌🙌💯💯💯💯🔥🔥🔥
Glad to see the Scarlet paradoxes are better yet again 😤🙏
Which Pokemon is hidden?
Bruh doesn’t know shit about blastoise lol give him the right move set right item and he is a beast lol
Can you run burning bulwark on smeargle instead of smiky shield now?
Yes but it won't stop taunt
Ah it doesn't protect against status moves. Thanks!
Whats "the attack bump"? I noticed you talked abt it on a few mons. Ive only been playing for about a year, and i dont know many of the concepts that pro players do
meganium is absolutely in the correct tier, but the moveset strays are uncalled for. bro gets swords dance since gen 2, having a niche in its debut gen because of it. meganium bros stand strong, gen 10 will give him an ability that grants an omniboost on switch in and it’ll still be ass
I have iron boulder higher cuz I have him on a team I built and he just crushes in late game. When mons are weak and instead off guessing if they gonna protect I just mighty cleave.
Would smeargl run blazing bulwark or whatever over spiky shield for its protect version to get burns? Although ig that's counter productive to it trying to sleep stuff. Maybe it could run the one spidops has that drops speed instead
IIRC Burning Bulwark and Silk Trap are like King's Shield, in that they only block damaging moves.
33:48 No it doesn’t
Stealth Rocks and Skarmory is only good in VGC when Amarys use it i swear
I mainly know singles but this video just reminded me Defiant is a god ability in doubles on top of the new ability being gimped to death on Gambit lmao
I finished the DLC on a Violet version a couple hours ago, just to discover that the paradox forms of entei and raikou are Scarlet game exclusive, so how the F im gonna get those guys? They gave you one per game and both pokemon are great for VGC. Im not buying an extra copy of this game just to have those Pkmns. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I will say that one point in Archaludon‘s favor is that it’s a rain abuser that is extremely strong against Raging Bolt, giving Torn-Ursh teams another way to deal with one of their hard counters
I'm sorry, but there's no way any Smeargle would ever run Spiky Shield now that Burning Bulwark exists.
Bulwark doesn't guard from status like taunt
@@MoxieBoostedFair enough, didn't know that.
Saying "nothing flinches this guy" about Gouging Fire seems a bit silly though, with the primary user of Fake Out being Incineroar. Don't think the king is scared of burns.
@@ewormXD it's can't flinch it without the partner getting hit by 150 BP fire move
@@MoxieBoosted What do you mean? If Gouging Fire goes for Burning Bulwark, it doesn't flinch, but it also doesn't attack and Incineroar isn't punished with a burn. If it goes for an attack, Fake Out causes it to flinch instead.
golurk no gaurd av high horsepower, dynamic punch, poltergeist, and zen headbutt. maybe run drainpunch for some health tera fighting or psychic if you tera psychic you can run zen headbutt, dynamic/drain punch, fire punch(for bug coverage)and phantom force or poltergeist.
Feel like meganium should have got iron defense. They gave it body press but only curse to boost defense. Would have done better as iron press than swords dance and.. trailblaze? Idk. Should be F tier honestly, didn’t fix its problems so it’s still the worst 3rd stage fully evolved Pokémon in the game.
I think you are underestimating sceptile. Got upper hand which combined with shed tail, rock tomb, breaking swipe makes it a good support mon and Ive been experimenting with it and dragon cheer with walking wake on sun which has been decent. And personally think the opposite of entei, an arcanine without intimidate, a weaker extreme speed than dragonite and competing for a fire spot with incineroar makes it mediocre.
It’s an Arcanine that can’t get intimidated or flinched that with Tera normal choice banded extreme speed is hitting like an absolute missile
i agree. plus h arcanine still has stab rock slide
@@PumaPants248 but then you use dragonite as that's a stronger tera normal extreme speed that also can't be intimidated. That was my point that arcanine has more utility and dragonite more power so in any situation where you have an entei one of the other 2 will likely be better except in specific team comps. This makes it mid like arcanine vs incineroar.
@@grahamloed9764 Entei has better options for STAB, Flare Blitz is better than whatever dragonite is pulling out of his ass
Whimsicott encore is absurdly annoying in this format. If you let it be it will encore you to death.. I like more than Tornadus personally.
"BuT dRaGoN cHeEr?!!☝️🤓" took me out🤣🤣🤣
AV Hitmontop is crazy to me. I always use him as a wide guard/helping hand user
Smeargle ought to be able to run Burning Bulwark instead of Spiky Shield.
burning bulwark doesn’t block status
Damn, my boy Zebstrika didn’t even get a name drop. Just thrown in the trash in the same breath as Emboar 😢
Where is Walking Wake?
I said it's not on the list in the vid but that I'd rank it a tier
@@MoxieBoosted must have missed it, thanks
Bruh watch people are gonna use stellar serperior. It’s just OP AF
Great video, however you made a mistake and forgot to put Dewgong in S tier. Hope this helps!
I love Dewgong, too. I find myself reaching for it a lot more than I thought I would with fake out, haze, and icy wind for speed control. Not the best, but it performs a lot better than I thought it would
keep up the work work
I can’t believe this tier list doesn’t follow standard distribution smh. Statistics isn’t a joke
Won't smeargle run burning bulwark?
