I feel like the reason for recent years pokemon designs being more attractive is also partially because of the introduction of pokemon masters/masters EX. Gacha games draw on their characters' visual appeal first and sensible design second. Designing characters thatd easily draw people to pull for them is a core idea for gacha design. So i think that does play a role in a lot of the decisions made in later games. I love a lot of the whacky older designs, but Im also not immune to Rika's incredibly hot gnc appeal. Lusamine may be hot but she's colder than the south pole xD

The Delta Episode postgame of ORAS starts with the players mom telling Norman she got tickets to the Mosdeep meteor shower and how Norman would like to go but has to temd to the gym that day. Not only is it displaying that they live together but also that she genuinely wants to spend time with Norman.

I don't know if anyone will read this but I need to clarify how wrong Ron is about Gordie Gordie is canonically a handsome and hardworking trainer who cares deeply for his fans. You can see by his interactions in the Gallar tournament that he's not rude at all His bad relationship with his mother is also %100 her fault. From a young age he was forced to train a type he never wanted by a mother who's teaching style is describe with words like "ruthless", "fierce", and "stoic", It's no wonder he hates her now. This is even acknowledged in the manga where Melony is fully aware of this and hates herself for it

See here's why i would struggle so much because the Pokemon Adventures versions of the characters from gen 1 til 4 have completely overwritten their game counterparts in my head. That manga is *amazing* and makes a lot of the characters so much better and more complex. And some characters are down right evil in it like Lorelei, whereas Bruno is the one original e4 member I now respect the most out of them xD
They made Lorelei good again in the FRLG chapter. In hindsight they should’ve made it that she was under mind control like Bruno instead of being willingly complicit in genocide. With all due respect to the original chapters, I like that the FRLG chapter had new characters to serve as villains instead of turning gym leaders and Elite 4 members evil.

Although already at Erika, I had to think that making 8 just plain "Hot" is maybe a bit too restrictive, because I'd say Erika, and other later characters are definitely above just "Very Attractive", but "Hot" doesn't really describe them, I'd say cuteness ranks just as highly, like how coolness probably factors into a lot of the mens rankings.

As annoying as clair might have been in the story, particularly with how she refuses to give her gym badge I will agree that her hgss design is probably one of the best designs in the game, because before her outfit was bland and monotone blue in color.and it felt like a bland precursor to the dragon tamer class, but in hgss her design has this sick Dragonair motif and I'm not gonna lie, those hips of hers are quite nice

Still a funny section(glad we are all in agreement the Arceus design was an upgrade, and Emmet is kinda creepy) but it does skew the ratings when the reason has nothing to do with the attractiveness. I like Anabel as a character too and agree she does need more attention(though I also agree the twins or really any faller has the sadder story because we know they’ve lost really close attachments and we either see their struggles or their loved ones struggles while Anabel seems to have more accepted the things that happened and lost the least) but that’s more on the fans than the characters themselves for that overshadowing

Not the sort of video I expected, but this is rather fun. Respectable. Personally, I'm not sure, many characters I like are carried as a character not just in terms of attractiveness. That said, Sonia, Cynthia, Miriam probably top my interest. Adaman, Kukui, Sada and Turo are incredible too. Honourable mention to the protagonist moms.
I fear there was a bias towards the female characters because they kept scoring higher than the most attractive males. Some men like Wallace did manage to end up on top, but it feels like there was still a preference that skewed the results. 9 generations and a male only got the top score in 2 of them.
Pokemon games have a tendency to design the female character as more attractive by default, there's way more ugly men than women. Just compare how fat men are designed ( literal circles) to the fat women ( voluptuous and curvy). By the way, I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing , I'm just making a general observation.
But they gave Opal 6, 8 and 7.5 and that old lady looks uglier than most male characters presented. There is no way you can see her and think "yeah she is atractive". There is a clear biased here and Opal shows it very well. Sometimes I thought that they didn't even ranked this based on atractiveness because there were a lot of characters that had the body of a literal child and if you consider that hot then you might have a problem.
Also that's the male gaze for ya. If aliens came, from a third person point of view, started rating humans you would probably be in for a surprise. You will probably get the same results you would get if you rated male Gorillas vs female Gorillas, humans are apes after all and our dimorphism although it is way less than a Gorilla the differences in general are the same.

Pretty disappointing hearing Gordie being called toxic and being a 'shithead' when he's anything but that canonically. He's always respectful and gives it his best for his fans. He has issues with his mum, but not for no reason, she wanted to force her battle style and typing on him, not letting him have his own choice. Naturally Gordie wasn't pleased and left home. If anyone is to blame it's Melony since she should have supported her child's decision, but sure, she 'did nothing wrong'. Maybe actually read up & know the characters before you spread misinformation about them. The Delta Episode postgame of ORAS starts with the players mom telling Norman she got tickets to the Mosdeep meteor shower and how Norman would like to go but has to temd to the gym that day. Not only is it displaying that they live together but also that she genuinely wants to spend time with Norman.
He goes to work two towns over and is not divorced from his wife and goes back home every night.

Gordie is canonically a handsome and hardworking trainer who cares deeply for his fans. You can see by his interactions in the Gallar tournament that he's not rude at all
His bad relationship with his mother is also %100 her fault. From a young age he was forced to train a type he never wanted by a mother who's teaching style is describe with words like "ruthless", "fierce", and "stoic", It's no wonder he hates her now. This is even acknowledged in the manga where Melony is fully aware of this and hates herself for it

See here's why i would struggle so much because the Pokemon Adventures versions of the characters from gen 1 til 4 have completely overwritten their game counterparts in my head.
That manga is *amazing* and makes a lot of the characters so much better and more complex. And some characters are down right evil in it like Lorelei, whereas Bruno is the one original e4 member I now respect the most out of them xD
They made Lorelei good again in the FRLG chapter.
In hindsight they should’ve made it that she was under mind control like Bruno instead of being willingly complicit in genocide.
With all due respect to the original chapters, I like that the FRLG chapter had new characters to serve as villains instead of turning gym leaders and Elite 4 members evil.

Well, the Ingo and Emmet segments. The low scores just because they overshadowed another character kinda irks me a bit. Still a funny section(glad we are all in agreement the Arceus design was an upgrade, and Emmet is kinda creepy) but it does skew the ratings when the reason has nothing to do with the attractiveness. I like Anabel as a character too and agree she does need more attention(though I also agree the twins or really any faller has the sadder story because we know they’ve lost really close attachments and we either see their struggles or their loved ones struggles while Anabel seems to have more accepted the things that happened and lost the least) but that’s more on the fans than the characters themselves for that overshadowing

Not the sort of video I expected, but this is rather fun. Respectable. Personally, I'm not sure, many characters I like are carried as a character not just in terms of attractiveness. That said, Sonia, Cynthia, Miriam probably top my interest. Adaman, Kukui, Sada and Turo are incredible too. Honourable mention to the protagonist moms.

I fear there was a bias towards the female characters because they kept scoring higher than the most attractive males. Some men like Wallace did manage to end up on top, but it feels like there was still a preference that skewed the results. 9 generations and a male only got the top score in 2 of them.
I mean, that just means they all leaned towards preferring females on average, just the luck of the sample population
Pokemon games have a tendency to design the female character as more attractive by default, there's way more ugly men than women.
Just compare how fat men are designed ( literal circles) to the fat women ( voluptuous and curvy).
By the way, I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing , I'm just making a general observation.
But they gave Opal 6, 8 and 7.5 and that old lady looks uglier than most male characters presented. There is no way you can see her and think "yeah she is atractive". There is a clear biased here and Opal shows it very well. Sometimes I thought that they didn't even ranked this based on atractiveness because there were a lot of characters that had the body of a literal child and if you consider that hot then you might have a problem.
Also that's the male gaze for ya. If aliens came, from a third person point of view, started rating humans you would probably be in for a surprise. You will probably get the same results you would get if you rated male Gorillas vs female Gorillas, humans are apes after all and our dimorphism although it is way less than a Gorilla the differences in general are the same.

Pretty disappointing hearing Gordie being called toxic and being a 'shithead' when he's anything but that canonically. He's always respectful and gives it his best for his fans. He has issues with his mum, but not for no reason, she wanted to force her battle style and typing on him, not letting him have his own choice. Naturally Gordie wasn't pleased and left home. If anyone is to blame it's Melony since she should have supported her child's decision, but sure, she 'did nothing wrong'.
