  • New ground for me! one of my favorite things to do is go to new places. We got a chance to spend some time on the East fork of the Choctawhatchee River and I will tell you it's a beautiful part of the river. we put in on county road 67 at Riversedge Campground and took out at the boat ramp in Newton Al. We made camp just north of hwy 231 and finished up the next day at Newton.
    We did have one place we had to do a little clearing to get around a tree but other than that it was a good float.

    Nothing like a good time at 6:30 that rock wall on the left hand side would be a great spot to tight line fish

      Yes sir there is a lot of deep holes along this stretch that would be good for that!

    If i get kayak i would have a small motor on it but if you catch a big fish hard to weigh them have to bring them to the dock

      I've been thinking about adding a motor just to see how it would do.

    Cool trip. Wonder if that downed tree is still there? A few questions: Did you take out at John Hutto Park or somewhere else? Are both ends of the route a relatively safe place to leave a car parked? How many camping spots did you pass along the way? Were they on public land? About how many hours did it take you to reach the camping spot? How many hours from camping spot to the takeout? Thanks.

    • @Bamaoutdoors
      @Bamaoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure about the tree but we did take out at john Hutto. The river was a little high so there wasn't a lot of camp sites. I think It was about a 6 to 7 hour float to the place we camped which was not far from the 231 bridge (no take out spot there). The next day we took out at John Hutto and that took us around 3 or 4 hours the best I can remember. All the land on the river bank is privately owned but most people don't say anything as long as we clean up and leave it like we find it. Thanks for watching!

    Man it look like an awesome time on the water. Especially when you go with a big group like you had. Me and my family( wife , 6th boys , & granddaughter ) we all love kayak camping. Every time we go kayak camping we have a very big group too with friends and other family members. I like how you just had a blast floating down the river. The campsite look pretty cool as well. That was a big water moccasin. I don't blame you for killing it. I like how everyone was kayaking barefooted 👣 at one point. That's how my family kayaks too because we have very wide feet. I have big very very extremely wide feet sz15 6E wide with very chubby fat wide toes that are equally straight across making my foot very very wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. My foot outgrew shoes , socks , & boots when i was 18 years old & flip flops is the only footwear that will barely and i mean barely fit my foot because my toes are wider than the flip flops straps. All 6th of my boys have very wide feet too & shoes and socks Crush and hurt their toes so all they wear is flip flops too. That's why we kayak barefooted 👣 Style. That was funny at the boat ramp when you said you don't need flip-flops to drive. "LOL" that is a true statement. I have to drive my car & lil truck & family van barefooted 👣 styles cuz my feet are so extremely wide that my foot touches the gas and brake pedal at the same time. I have to look down at the pedals to see where to put my foot at just so I won't have an accident while driving because of having extremely wide feet. I think of my toes were at a 45° angle instead of being equally straight across it wouldn't be so bad. Having a foot that 6 1/2 inches wide is difficult for anything including kayaking. Good video I enjoy watching your kayak camping trip. Thank you for sharing.

    The East Fork is one of my favorite parts of the Choc. Kelley Creek junction is especially pretty. Last time I was there (July 2020) there was a large tree across the river just south of Kelley Creek and just upstream of where the East Fork and West Fork meet. Is that the same place y'all had to go around at about 9:27 to 10:30 in the video? Thanks.

    • @Bamaoutdoors
      @Bamaoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep that's it lol it's a huge tree all the way across. It is a nice float except that one spot. I have a new to me boat I want to try to get up to that spot and clean up that a little one day.

      @@Bamaoutdoors Thanks. I'll be kayaking that stretch again soon and I'll see if I can at least clear a path so someone can access the big tree. Kinda hard to use a chainsaw from a kayak. Cutting that huge tree will be very dangerous. When someone starts cutting it, it's going to roll, settle, or flip. Maybe some combination of the three.

    • @Bamaoutdoors
      @Bamaoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it will be tricky! I have tried the chainsaw with a kayak and that can be a handful lol.

      This is a good one to use and sometimes I'll go down to a 2/0 size for smaller stuff. I try to go weedless in the river just to try to keep from getting hung up so much. I also love to fish a Junebug color that has work for me in ever situations. Hope that helps! amzn.to/3zPWEFh
