  • *UPDATE* Since recording this video I have found Bearly Art Glue and it is my most recommended glue. It is incredible; very comparable to the Art Glitter Glue except it can be shipped in winter with no issues. Check it out here:

Hello crafters! I'm back with Part II of the Great Glue Review and today we are focusing on how well they bond to cardstock. We will be looking at if they warp or make ripples in the paper, if there is wiggle room, and what the dried results are. Thanks so much for stopping by!
**UPDATE** I contacted Lawn Fawn to let them know of the quality issue because 2 out of the 3 bottles I had were defective. Although i declined, they offered to replace them (even though i had bought from Amazon). That is some great customer service!

I noticed that you didn't test any solvent based glue - all are water based. All water based glues cause warping, just some with a higher water content are worse - or applying too much/not in a thin layer. My favorite water based glue is Art Glitter Glue. My favorite solvent based glue is Collall All Purpose glue, available through Crafter's Companion USA in California. It has great open time for getting layers straight and it 'stiffens' enough to feel like an additional layer.

I am not a scrapbooker, who tends to use heavier paper. I am a collager who frequently works with very thin papers, like fashion magazines, and even napkins. We don't apply our glue by just squeezing it out of the bottle because the papers will warp. We usually spread our glue on with a brush or a foam brush so that it is flat. This avoids warping for all but the runniest glue and thinnest paper. We usually use Aleen's because it spreads evenly, is initially maneuverable, and it holds very well. Tombow green is a good choice for when you need a tight, everlasting stickiness for thick papers and certain embellishments. Two other wet glues that you failed to mention are Mod Podge and Golden matte medium. For big jobs, like gluing an entire page in a journal, people in my group use Golden matte medium on the tops and bottoms of the papers. Its properties are similar to Aleene's. For gluing small pieces of paper that we don't want to get wet, we use Elmer's X-treme glue stick (which we think is going off the market). No other glue stick will hold beyond 6 months. This is another thing you have to consider, which you couldn't do in your short-term test: longevity. Although green Tombow doesn't ever dry completely, it and Aleene's Tacky and especially Golden matte medium (but not Mod Podge) will dry completely to the touch and will last virtually forever. The point that I am trying to make is that you need to choose the correct glue for the job you have, and sometimes that may be more than a single glue at a time. Knowing what I know now, I might choose a couple of the glues that you just tested, which I had never heard of before.

Diane, thank you so much for taking the time to share all of this super helpful information with us. I thought about using a brush to put the glue on some of my projects, ,especially this really thin origami paper I just got but I have a question. What kind of brush do you use (or sponge) and do you wash it after every time, or do you just keep using it even if it gets hardeded by glue? Thanks!

    • @dianekopperman3160
      @dianekopperman3160 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Mary Polanco
Many of us use any old brush for gluing because it doesn't have to be exactly smooth to glue together papers to other papers. Many of us keep these brushes in water to keep them soft, but I don't; I wash my brush out after each use in warm water snd soap, like Dawn or my liquid hand soap. If you wash it right away, it's not too much effort. For smooth top finishing, we use foam brushes so there are no brushstrokes. Most people buy these in bulk and just throw them away afterward. I don't; again, I wash them in soap and warm water. They are cheap, so they only last a few sessions before the foams detach themselves from their sticks.

I mix Aleene's tacky with Elmer's school glue to get a consistency I like and put it in a smaller bottle that has a finer tip. I do this because I picked up a gallon of school glue on clearance!!! ($9) I discovered that it worked quite well. Aleene's had tiny bottles that you can pick up and refill from large ones. The more expensive glues I have purchased didn't do really any better for me (what I used it for).

Yay!! So glad Art Glitter Glue is the winner, lol. I have had the same bottle probably for close to a year and only about halfway through it. Aileen's Tacky Glue is a great glue, but I just don't think to use it for paper crafts. I have always used it for wood crafts. I have put together 2 dollhouses (like you get at Hobby Lobby) and I use Aileen's Tacky Glue. It has great hold.

I totally agree! It seems my Art Glitter is practically endless! I’ve had the same bottle for 11 months and I use it almost every day of the week (because paper crafting is my addiction 😂😂) and it’s still half full or a tiny bit more. I guess a little just goes a really long way and I’ve never even specifically tried to be conservative. I have always used the precision tip and always get great results. I have recently also started using Bearly Art as well - whenever I think I might need the extra time to slide things into the perfect position.

Wow! I love how you came to your conclusion. As I said in the comment I made in your first glue comparison video, I have been using art glitter glue for a couple of years now and it Is all I will use. It is cost effective when you use refill bottle. It comes out In such a nice thin line and that is all you need. Ailene's may have made your cut after you worked at it, but I don't want to have to worry about if I am accidentally getting it too thick. That doesn't seem to happen with the AGG. Mary, thank you so much for doing these comparisons. It was as close to Mythbusting as crafting needs to get 👩‍🔬👩‍🎨. I love your sense of humor! These two videos were a lot of fun to watch!

My placement on things is horrible so i know mine is due to operator error LOL00

I finally watched both your glue review videos and your findings confirm what I have found to be the case with glues. The Aleene Tacky glue is a nice option for the price point. Nuvo and Tombow were always my go to choice (and the higher cost is disappointing I agree) but now Art Glitter Glue is what I use. I hate paper warping and this glue never does that! Also as far as Glossy Accents...for the application of adding gloss to a project I find it gets hard and gooey and filmy over time. The very best glossy accents in my opinion and experience is Judikins Diamond glaze. It comes out of the bottle like liquid butter. Dries very beautifully to give a shiny clear hard finish. I love it! Can find it on Amazon. And it never gets gloppy over time. I have had bottles a few years old and it still flows from the bottle without any problem. Great reviews Mary. Thank you for taking the time to do this. Merry Christmas!

Great reviews Mary! Thanks for all your time, money spent, and work doing these. I have to say that I’ve had a bottle of Glossy Accents for years and never had a problem with clogging until I put a fine tip applicator on it. But, like you, I never think to use it as regular adhesive. The Lawn Fawn did not live up to the hype for me. My tube clogged after only a couple of uses and then the top popped off and ruined my project when it dumped most of the glue out. I was so angry. Anyway, I want to try the Art Glitter Glue now. Thanks again!

Christy, thank you so much for sharing all of this! It seems we have had very similar experiences. I fear that the Lawn Fawn quality might be an issue with them in general. Thanks again, I so appreciate you!

I came to the same conclusions as you regarding Art Glitter Glue, and Aleen's Tacky Glue, BUT I have found that using tiny dots of Tacky works much better. It is also much easier to "undo" a mistake with dental floss after it has dried. I always store my Tacky upside down, and it is very thick, but dabbing tiny dots of it around the perimeter of my card stock holds just as well. I usually use Tacky for general gluing, and save the more expensive Glitter glue for precision pieces, and when there is a chance a stray bit of glue may show, since it dries clear and matte. BTW, when using the Tacky during a project, I store it, uncapped, upside down in a glass with a dampened piece of folded paper towel in the bottom, to keep it from clogging.
Thanks for all of your wonderful ideas and crafty substitutions. Your videos have helped me immensely in saving money and using things i already have.

Great info in these 2 videos & in the comments. I found your channel because I was looking for more info on glues. All the glues you tested are PVA glues I believe. I was actually looking for info on silicone glues but your tests helped me realize that the glues I have are good for now. I saw an overseas crafter talking about getting silicone glue at her dollar store and all our silicone glues in the US are super expensive. I was trying to find out if they are really worth the extra expense. Seems like the AGG will be fine fo right now. Maybe the silicones will come down in price eventually. Right now I see a lot of YT crafters using them. I have some but wasn't impressed but that may be operator error. Thanks for your info.

Great video, already use Aileen's, spread it with a pallet knife so helps with warpage and prevents seepage on the sides. Adding Art Glitter Glue to my cart.

I am a paper crafter. AGG is my go to glue. I like Mono “green” glue but hate the tackiness on fingers. Hate it. Aileen’s is too watery for some projects, but I found a bottle dispenser that put Aleen’s back on my craft table. I recently found a solvent glue that I am growing to like - Beacon 3 in 1. Smells for a bit, but I like how it holds, move time, and no ripple. Thanks for your review!

Art glitter glue has been my go-to glue for over a year ago. A little goes a long way. Strong hold. I used to use multi matte medium as primary. But once I tried AGG, MMM is my second. Tombow mono green is great as temp hold. Use aleens tacky in a pinch but skip Elmer's products. Good review!!!

I agree with you. I have been reaching mostly fr AGG for sure. Thank you for sharing. 😊

Great review. I mostly use Aleene's tacky glue, Aleene's quick dry glue, and Art glitter glue.

I tried Gina K’s quick connect glue, which is the same type of bottle as Lawn Fawn’s glue. Gina’s glue was great and the bottle much easier to squeeze than LF’s. Both are pricey in my opinion so I’ll stick with Art glitter, Tombow Mono and Glossy accents ( for the glossy look) I may try Elmer’s Glue all in the future. Alene’s seems very thick and hard to get out even.

All great observations for sure! I am sending back all of my Lawn Fawn glue; 2 of the 3 bottles were no good. I let them know about it too because I would hate negative press for them over it. I do love Lawn Fawn. So glad this was useful!

If you'd like to give the Aleene's a try they also make a new bottle that has a finer tip and stands with the tip down in the cap, it's called Aleene's Always Ready Tacky Glue, the bottle is fantastic and can be refilled from the cheaper normal shape bottle. They also make it in a Turbo variety which I use all the time. Great glue and the new bottle does make a difference.
