    You have some serious talent. Keep this up and in a few years you'll be doing axels and doubles.

    Wow!!! You're doing great! It's so cool that you've started skating; sometimes it can be a bit scary starting something new that most who do it start young (that's how I felt with piano). Congratulations on 1000 subscribers on your other channel!!!!!! Stay awesome. 👈👈😎 🎶

    Wow, you’re the fastest learner I’ve seen on TH-cam when it comes to adult skating. Nice work!
    Did you grow up playing another sport? Your spiral is so high and impressive so it made me wonder if you used to dance or do ballet? :)

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you! Yeah, I do a type of dance called colorguard, which I started doing when I was 15! I did a variety of sports as a younger kid but none of them ever really stuck lol. My dance experience definitely helps me with picking things up quick!!!

    Two months and already on to jumps is really impressive!!! I'm almost at two months and I don't think I'm anywhere near trying any jumps haha. Do you do off-ice conditioning to help with your skating?

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I don't really do off ice haha, I don't like regular working out and I dont really know any off ice drills 😅😅 but I have previous dance experience and that definitely makes things a lot easier for me!

    FAQ AT THE BOTTOM!
    Hey all, thanks for watching! I made an Instagram to post more simple short updates! If you want to see what I'm up to more often than I post here you should check it out =) @marshallspins
    FAQ
    How often do you skate?
    My ice time has varied a lot just depending on my weekly work+school schedule. I'd say on average 5-7 hours a week, but some weeks I wouldn't be able to go at all, or only a couple hours and some weeks I would get significantly more.
    How many lessons?
    My first 6 weeks I was taking 2 30 min group lessons a a week, then I took 1 a week for my second 6 weeks (though I missed a couple), and I haven't been able to take classes since then so everything after that has been independent practice
    What kind of skates do you use?
    Jackson freestyles! I started on jackson soft skates but I "outgrew" them once I started jumping
    Are you a dancer/ did you do sports??
    I did colorguard at a high level for 7 years. For those not familiar, it's a type of dance similar to baton twirling. If you've ever seen a marching band half time show, we are the people with the flags! For those who are familiar, I competed at both wgi and dci =)
    How old are you?
    I'm 22

    It looks like some well-maintained ice. Where I live now, there is only one rink and it’s used by everyone- hockey players, children…the ice is terrible. It’s full of ruts and scratches. Very intimidating and scary.

  • @mxlachai2958

    wow your progress is so good! can i ask how many hours you practice per week and if you get private lessons? this is amazing!!

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Thank you so much!!! Hours per week this month is a bit complicated becuase my schedule has been so irregular haha,,, I was only actually able to make it to the rink like 5 times total, and they were likely 2 hour sessions each time. My first month though it was about 5-7 hours a week! I actually have my first private lesson tomorrow!!

      @@marshallspins That explains your amazing progress! I was like how did she get her toe loop in 2 months! It took me around the 2-year mark to train that, but not only did I progress slowly, I only had a 2-3 hour practice a week. Did you train half-loop or half-flip or do you just go for it?

  • @BP-xv7fj
    @BP-xv7fj 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Skating is a sport that if you play other sports as a kid like rather seriously you have no problem landing double axels within 3 years, which means triple Sal and toe loop

      There is a skate specialist at my rink who recommended them for me when I got fitted. She said it was a combination how often I skated (which was about 6 days a week at the time) and that I was working on my single jumps. They're the perfect level for me I think! Anything lower and I would have outgrown them too fast I think. I did have jackson soft skates for my first month but they were too low of a level since I started jumping so quickly. They didn't have a proper toe pick 😅

  • @robynm8952

    What black socks/nylons are you wearing and do you find that your foot slides around inside the skate boot?

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tbh they're literally just from dollar tree LOL. 2 for a buck, and I've never had an issue with them. My skate fitter specifically recommended them to me and says she finds them just as good as more expensive ones. I've never used anything better so I can't confirm or deny, but I'm satisfied with them =)

    • @robynm8952
      @robynm8952 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marshallspins Thanks! Are they simple nylons? Or long socks. I will look for them. I had skate lessons about 13-14 years ago (I am now 55) and looking to get back into it BUT, back then, my coach recommended skating barefoot to prevent my foot from sliding inside the boot. I still do it, but I was wondering what your thoughts are about that theory.

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Theyre nylons! They have a brick red colored tag on them that says "trouser socks". I do have a friend that skates barefoot because they like being able to fully "feel the skate". I'm obviously no expert because I'm so new haha, but I feel like if your skate fits properly you shouldn't really have an issue with sliding around. It's not something I've ever experienced when wearing nylons

    • @robynm8952
      @robynm8952 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@marshallspins Cool. Appreciate your fast response. I used to wear trouser socks decades ago with skates until coach said not to. She also told me to use my toes to control my skates, grip, direction, etc…have you heard of that?
      I skated today for the first time in probably 13 years with my neighbors four year old and I returned back to the basics. The swizzles for both me and the four-year-old lol!

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm sometimes I have to think about controlling my edges by pressing either my big toe or my pinky toe down. But it's not something I've ever had a coach talk about. I'm glad I could help!! I hope you have lots of fun skating again 😁😁

    is it posible to do these move on roler blade?

    • @marshallspins
      @marshallspins  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some! I love rollerblading and it can be great for practicing basics like crossovers, but unfortunately the lack of rocker or toe picks on rec skates makes it impossible to do jumps or spins. You can get inline figure skates which are great I hear, but very expensive haha. But there are some rollerblades that have a rocker which I think would allow you to do some spins. I'm gonna buy a pair when I have some spare money and try that out 😆
