The time span from mid 70s to WW1 seems so much more ancient than me looking back to early 70s from mid 2020s.
The phrase "Timeless design" gets thrown about a lot in the car world, but when a design that was launched in 1999 still looks drop-dead gorgeous in 2023, then it is definitely worthy of being called Timeless.
A very accurate review of what has been an underrated Ferrari. I've owned mine for 10 years now and it still is a special feeling when driving. Very comfortable to drive and the manual gearstick is a joy to use. As the modern models get more and more complex in design, these have such flowing lines. My previous car was a Lotus Esprit so I know where you're coming from in the comparison and like you, the new Lotus Emira is something I would look at in the future when I come to replace the 360 (not quite yet though !).
I picked one of these up last year, deliberately a slightly higher mileage example to avoid a car that had sat for ages. Prices didn't seem to have risen as much as other sports cars over the pandemic. Thoroughly enjoying it so far - it's a good blend of old and new and to my eyes a far more graceful shape than the aggressively-styled F430.
A great review, I have had 5 over the years, currently owning a 2001 Spider and 2004 Stradale. The owning and running costs have not been astronomical, if I had one bit of advice is to get any bits done on the car and not leave it as it can cause more issues! I have driven 40-50 k miles across continents on both cars they have been superb and don’t be scared to buy a higher mileage car as one very low mileage I purchased many years ago had numerous issues. They do in my eyes look better than the later 430, which does surprisingly have many more issues. Cambelt change and servicing at independents or dealers is not as costly as many would think. Drive wise the manual is great but so is the f1 if you upgrade the ecu to stradale spec. They are not as sophisticated as the later 430 or 458 but the noise I get from my stradale on full chat is simply amazing. 👍

ECUs for example run £7k a pair (if you can find them and you need to replace them in pairs). A lot of the buyers guides from the mainstream mags on these cars suggesting £2k a year maintenance are out of date now these cars are 20+ years old. If you can stomach the maintenance costs then crack on, they are a very special thing (and they don’t really seem to be depreciating anymore).
Jay my motto is if you want a high end car let’s say 40k always have half amount 20k to keep it. Anything goes wrong at least you have the budget behind you.
Yeah that works for 10k cars that too, have 5k ready to do the belts, chains, clutch, shocks, tyres, discs pads and calipers and a service. That way an old car will drive like new.

Marvelous video, James! Love the comprehensive look at all the tidbits, with some entertaining facts thrown in. I'm still a bit lost as to why people did not choose the sunroof option seeing as the GTS version of the F355 was hugely popular. I would've gone for that option cause I do love sunroofs, but then of course, I didn't have the means to buy one new nor was anywhere near the driving age. I was however, a little child, and this was one of the Ferraris I grew up with. To me, the 360 always felt a bit more exotic than anything in its class at the time and I've loved the looks since the beginning - it was always a pretty car in my eyes, and I'm glad that people have finally started to appreciate the softer, more graceful design compared to the 355 or F430.

Jay, I love your videos as much as Harry’s. I find yours more informative and it’s much appreciated, because what I know about Ferraris can be written on a Post-It note. Harry’s tend to have a more technical and driving at the extremes bias, and together, we’re fortunate to have really good coverage.
I remember not being overly enthusiastic about the styling when it first came out... and then it grew on me to the point where I had the image at 12:44 as my desktop background for a long time. This car really does look stunning in silver, and as a convertible - not necessarily true for all Ferraris.
hands down one of the best review/buyer's guide/collectibility/history/alternative purchase guide to the 360, all combined into 30+ minutes. As someone with multiple ferraris for years, this guy is not BSing around like other shallow youtubers. It's too bad ferrari dealers in America are crap, that's why none of us send it to the official dealers, as they seem perfectly happy just doing warranty work on new cars and selling service plans at 200% the price and not bother to stay competitive with independents
Excellent coverage of the 360 James, great detail and backstory coverage! At the end was thinking NSX (manual) as an option but mentioning the Emira was a (welcome) curve ball with ours coming to our channel in a few weeks. Great stuff!
I have a manual 430. I never was a fan of the F1. The only issue for me is the maintenance. The yearly fluid change. Last month I had to change the fuel pumps. This month the tire sensors have to be change out. In the states a good manual 360 goes for $120,000-140,000 on Bat. Both the 360 and 430 have a very comfortable ride. My friend had a 964 and that car bounced over every bump on the road.
Had a close up look at a Lotus Emira yesterday, and I was really impressed. The styling is magnificent, and the interior a marked improvement over Lotus of old. I'd say it's every bit a supercar, and just as well put together as a Porsche, especially in interior quality. The gear change too is glorious, just like an early MX5. I'd choose the Lotus over the 360 any day of the week. It's absolutely brilliant, and a terrific swan song as the last internal combustion engined car Lotus will ever make.
No it’s not on Porsche’s level, you found a nice example but there’s still quality control issues some of their gearbox’s don’t feel like they should, some already have rattling interiors, warped leather, stitching coming undone, and faulty electronics turning on and off. The 360 is not perfect either put at least it’s a real supercar with a proper V8 not some wannabe with a Toyota Camry engine.
Not in 100% agreement ref Ferrari maintenance program. My California T (was) under warranty cover and maintenance pack. Not an insignificant £4000 a year fee. Had it in for annual service at Xmas and to be honest Maranello just tried to take the piss. Left with them for 2 weeks and self evidently they didn’t put it on trickle charge before they got around to look at it as they called to say “battery is flat it’s and £125 to test”… 🙄. Given I’d only just put a new one on at £95 I pushed back. They then gave me a list totalling £3650 for unnecessary / not mandated within service schedule but “advisory” items… such as £240 for a windscreen wiper.. needless to say car will now go to local aftermarket service outfit with fantastic and longstanding reputation.
James enthusiastically spruiking the F360.. he does a great job in running through the pros and cons of this now modern classic. Almost enough to make me want one. But then I have a 575M with a V12... and it's so much better as an everyday day car. Tremendous on the twisty stuff too.
The F1 gearbox is not great. Sure it works well on the road but if you have a gravel driveway or visit multi-storey car’s regularly then be careful. It’s very “binary” so either stop go…. Not ideal when nudging up to a concrete bollard in the dark. Keeping your gravel well dressed will keep you fit.
I remember kicking a football around streets in 1973 like it was yesterday. Sometimes 1 or 2 WW1 war veterans would kick it back and show me how to dribble and tackle. I thought nothing of it, then many years later it dawned on me that they were my age with jumpers for goalposts back in 1910, 1 year before Louis Bleriot flew over the English Channel, and 2 years before the Titanic sank. Can’t decide whether I like the intro or outro the best. Intro suggests a new video is launching which is great but the outro is such a nostalgic little tune.
Totally agree with you about considering using main dealers re: specialist garages. I hasten to add that I've never been in the enviable position to own a thoroughbred sports car. I learned this hard lesson when I ran a Chrysler Grand Voyager as a 7 seater taxi. Absolutely excellent levels of luxury (for the time) but really not suited to the brtitish roads. This car became a money pit needing loads of regular maintenance, that could have been reduced drastically had I use a main dealer with OEM parts. e,g, a set of Mintex brake pads would last maybe 5,000 miles, and discs would need replacing every second set, whereas OEM discs and pads cost about twice as much but the pads would last 10,000 miles without any discernable wear on the discs. I guess the saying 'you get what you pay for' has always been quite true.
I love how concise James is with this ownership experience series. I'm poor as all hell, but now I am tempted. Also, I would not be surprised if you suddenly pulled the trigger and got an Emira.
As @ichiban says the videos could be even better, yes they are very good, if you slowed down a little bit. Keep up the good work. PS: I much prefer the 360 over the 355, but without the challenge grill, please.
Congrats on one the most detailed review I’ve seen for a long time. As a fan of your channel, I’ve watched a lot of videos and always appreciate your direct impressions. Look forward to more, I’d love to see something on the Mustang.
Thanks for an informative and entertaining review. I absolutely love my 360 and am very glad I bought it. I used to have an Esprit but as you say, the 360 knocks the spots off it.
Great video James! Collecting Cars did a similarly excellent job on 360 ownership / buying advice recently as well for those lucky enough to be hunting one of these awesome cars. F430 declassification next please!
FANTASTIC video James! Thoroughly enjoyed it! Very thorough and informative. Made a F360 sound like a no brainer! The clock looks like the same item found in overhead consoles of Mk1 Fiat Puntos. Keep up the great content!
Nice review as usual now - an alternative you didn’t mention is the F355 …. You are spot on with the Emira though, possibly the one to get if you were sensible (and not living in France) I’ll stick to the F355 though, in my eyes way prettier
The 360 will feel far, far more raw than any modern Lotus. The 360 is a wild animal at the limit. Forget the Strad (stupid money for what it is) - I'm talking the Modena. Have big pockets. No I'm not Mr Cliché - I've owned several. Have big pockets at the ready. Also, make sure the variator recall has been carried out (use Aldous Voice guides on the net). In fact, use Aldous Voice / AV Engineering for practically everything 360 (or 430) related. I drive over 250 miles to get my car to him. Did I mention having big pockets? Enjoy.
I'd like to see a mechanic own a 360 & give prices of just parts & how much labor/ time doing it yourself. Everyone gives high numbers for cost then find out it's reasonable for parts (depending on the part) but they pay labor for a ferrari specialty shop which I'm guessing isn't cheap per hour etc
You earned a new sub (after years of watching your videos), i don't usually sub to channels, yours is only the fifth one... I share a lot of views on cars with you especially enjoyed the few electric car video rants/criticisms.
I would take your F360 over any modern sports car indeed. The modern stuff is too complicated with all their electronics, which makes them less reliable. Thank you for showing us your beauty.
Hi Jay! I really enjoy your work. I would love to see a declassified video on the 2005 to 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo. From what I understand the 2004 model wasn’t fully sorted. 2009 and newer Gallardo’s are just too expensive. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Totally agree with the comments made I have manual 360 Giallo Spider always been my favourite looking car, plus only 3 in the UK so you won't see another unlike 4500 Emiras in each county
This was by far my favorite "achievable Ferrari". When I was in my early 20's I was saving up to buy one of these. Instead I bought a WRX, and put a down payment on a house. Growing up sucks 😂
Thank you for another highly interesting video, this being the only supercar I would consider buying. May I ask for a "declassified" video on the Maserati 3200 and / or 4200? Thank you
Declassified 997.2 GT3. Not RS. Always RS on TH-cam and media. But the non RS'es are much more approachable and usable due to pricing and not revered in the same way by collectors pushing the price or driven mile down. More info on the 550 Premium please. What was replaced, what was done, how was the classiché and so on. Don't think that ever became a video
I love looking at supercars but have little desire to ever own one even if I could afford it. I get a bit claustrophobic at times and I have a feeling most supercars would exasperate that. I have a feeling these older Ferraris will age better than the 458 and beyond will from an aesthetic angle.
Answer to the question in the title of the video is: Extremely! This video just proves the age old addage about Ferrari's: You might be able to afford to buy one but you're very likely not going to be able to afford to run one. Nearly everything that was mentioned that might need replacing (and this is a Ferrari so you can bet your life it WILL need replacing at somepoint if you own the car for 5-10 years), was "about a thousand pounds" plus, and I lost track after about the 15th item that was mentioned. Meaning? You could by a 360 for anywhere between £50k or £80k but it's going to cost you anywhere between £5k to £20k on top of that in ownership costs. That's not including fuel! Take away the "super" moniker from the car and that's an added expense that's extremely hard to justify let alone swallow. Even more so that by todays modern standards they're really not "super" at all (think Koenigsegg etc). Sorry but I can't believe any car is that special to drive. I'll take a 981 Cayman thanks.
Prefer the discussion outside the vehicle in this video when reviewing, I struggle hearing with background noise in cars being driven - my hearings not what it was !
Very informative. The pricing he claimed was interesting though. A low mileage manual going for £80k ($100k). This must be a steering wheel on the wrong side of the car phenomenon, as they’re closer to $170 or 180k in the states now.
You could literally buy a CS and sell it later for zero loss. The same cant be said for the 360M. The delta is miles apart. Both cars are great. The 360CS is about to go to the moon and I for one an very sad I missed the boat.
JayEmm, I think this is one of your best videos yet! Maybe I'm biased because I've been eyeing 360s for about a year now while waiting for the right deal on a house with a right proper garage, but still, your breakdown of common maintenance costs is SO helpful!!!

360 still looks better than any new Ferrari....
Enjoying this declassified series, not in the market for these cars but I'd imagine those who are will find them very useful
hands down one of the best review/buyer's guide/collectibility/history/alternative purchase guide to the 360, all combined into 30+ minutes.
Excellent breakdown, throughly enjoy the video, one of your best, James is truly in his prime.
Best review format I've seen. Bravo !
Would love you to review a Fiat Dino Coupe 2400...
Always liked this car. For me it has aged very well! Still think it looks superb!
When these came out I did not really like them. But now, they look amazing, aged really well. I follow Sam of Seen through glass with his.
Would enjoy a video about one of those trucks[lorries?] that transport super cars, and their drivers. Seems like an interesting job!
The time span from mid 70s to WW1 seems so much more ancient than me looking back to early 70s from mid 2020s.
Just came off your 1970s french face-off from 4 years ago, enjoyed it and hope you can do more quirky face-offs in the future!
I’d say, that’s what makes the lotus emira so salivating. Ferrari good looks with none of the drawbacks!
Can’t decide whether I like the intro or outro the best. Intro suggests a new video is launching which is great but the outro is such a nostalgic little tune.
Blimey James! You must have ragged that 360 hard as in the drive bys all that yellow paint was stripped back to bare metal!
Thanks J, very concise & informative! Great to see & hear one on the road to! 🙏🙏
Excellent, informative video. I usually like the feel of how it might drive, but this in-depth info was also much needed.
Thankyou Jay...appreciate enthusiasts with integrity.
I could just watch and listen to someone just Potter around country lanes all day in a 360!😊
Great video James!
A fine episode, James.
Thanks for posting!
Thank you Jay to give a very thoughtful reviews about 360!
Brilliant!!! The 360 Modena goes on my List!!!
The glass engine display case was always my favorite feature of these.
Damn...I'm a brokeboy, but for a minute James had me thinking even I could afford one of these🤣🤣🤣 Great review!
Nice review as usual now - an alternative you didn’t mention is the F355 …. You are spot on with the Emira though, possibly the one to get if you were sensible (and not living in France)
I’ll stick to the F355 though, in my eyes way prettier
I dont own a Ferrari, and dont suppose i ever will, however i found my self watching and listening to the whole video
Very interesting review.
You earned a new sub (after years of watching your videos), i don't usually sub to channels, yours is only the fifth one...
I share a lot of views on cars with you especially enjoyed the few electric car video rants/criticisms.
Love how the 360 looks
Great review as always and a lovely car, thank you!
When are you reviewing the E46 M3 CSL please?
One of the last nice BMWs...
Thanks, excellent video. You do the research and it shows. I want one. Beautiful car.
Next please - F430 and 430 Scuderia. Return to the Chain driven engine style of the 246 Dino! Very different engine to the 360.
There is also a manual hood release pull handle under the dash similar to other cars. A lot of non owners don’t know about it
Great Video. You really cover all important aspects. 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊
I would take your F360 over any modern sports car indeed. The modern stuff is too complicated with all their electronics, which makes them less reliable. Thank you for showing us your beauty.
Drove one of these once. I promise you my 2006 Focus was not only a lot more comfortable, but also handled better
The challenge is pretty and it sounds like angels screaming ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
These videos really are incredible.
Great review, many thanks Jay!
Great cars. I had a blue one 2006 only 15,000 miles manual .Verdi Ferrari use to service for me
At 7:12 you can see the mirror adjuster-switches which are the same as in a 90ies Audi (Cabriolet for example).
This was by far my favorite "achievable Ferrari". When I was in my early 20's I was saving up to buy one of these. Instead I bought a WRX, and put a down payment on a house. Growing up sucks 😂
Your videos convinced me to get a Maserati gt, time to be sold and convinced a 360 is next. Lord help my bank account
Had the Maserati been reliable?
@@sleepeatdrive7619yes.
Not sure if you done it yet james but I would say a California or prev Gen z4 3.5
Gallardo has a V10 and that is an appeal all it's own
@@zacht9447 i gotta say, a v10 with the same price is a deal
Thank you for another highly interesting video, this being the only supercar I would consider buying.
May I ask for a "declassified" video on the Maserati 3200 and / or 4200? Thank you
Very good Video! I would love to see a Ferrari 612 next!
Great video sir!
Great video! Also did you say 'your Boxster' ..?
Im buying a 2004 360 f1 with a capristo exhaust in July. My first car actually at 17... My money. Great to know it's a good one.
Shut it James! I was aiming to own one of these. Stop telling people how good they are!
I hope you have a F355 version of this in the works. 😀
Great video!!!
