one thing i've realized as a mechanic it's not actually that bad to own & fix ferrari's. you see owners channels say "i got my ferrari serviced cost 8 grand for timing belts & spark plugs...", first thought is big money to fix them.. then you find out spark plugs are still only 15-20 bucks each, timing belts are a few hundred just a bit more than any other car etc. If those big bills are mostly from high rate labour, than doing it yourself makes them feasible to pay the high purchase price to get one.
Ferraris before the 360 are pretty hard to work on, engine out services etc etc. The 360 is the first Ferrari where you can work on it "easily" by yourself. One of the biggest problem with working on the 360 is jacking it up because its got areo channelling front to back.
Excellent review and advice. I had my 2004 360 Modena F1 for 13years now. Simply fantastic and a reliable car. Always an occasion driving the 360. I will probably keep my 360 till I can’t physically drive it!
My car literally in 25k miles of ownerships needed almost nothing.. literally it was a rock solid car, aside from the belts and clutch which I did 23k miles, if I buy another, I will get a STICK
One good check on the F1 system is that when you open the door the pump should only run for a few seconds. If it runs for a long time it means the pressure accumulator isn't holding pressure; the pump should be just doing a quick top-up. On the dry sump system, it's not just temperature that changes the level on the stick. When the engine stops, oil drains out of the tank into the bottom of the engine. When you start it and run it up the pumps suck the oil back out of the pan and into the tank. So checking it when the engine hot is more about it having run for long enough to let the pump do its work.
