    Thanks for the very helpful video!
    I've worked on Johnson & Tohatsu carbs before, but when I opened up my Mariner 15 and realized the carb wasn't just going to lift out after removing the flange bolts, I went in the house, washed my hands and hit the keyboard. Thankfully I found your video! Without it, I surely would have ended up breaking some plastic part of the enrichment assembly.
    To other readers, a general word of advice when cleaning carbs - wear eye protection! When you blast carb cleaner through those little passages and jets, you can never be sure where it's going to come out!!

    Great video. You're the only person that mentioned what operates the diaphragm on the fuel pump. When removing that small hose at the bottom of the carb I noticed a hole in it. That was likely the cause of the engine only starting with starting fluid.... no working fuel pump! So, I'm waiting for a carb rebuild kit that wasn't even needed.... especially since the carb chambers and ports were all very clean when inspecting. I wish I saw this video before I tore it apart!

    Good video, I was not expecting the sermon, but you have every right to believe in anything you want. One small bit of advice. Never do this on a table with grass or chippings under it, or you may drop small parts and lose them into a black hole. Also you had the chance to clean the fuel filter. Thank you and may your God go with you. P.S. Don't forget to donate any bits you have left over after a reassembly and install to a local charity.

    So refreshing during a DIY video to be reminded of what really matters in life. This world offers no hope in the end. Sure you will find stuff that entertains but it will all pass. We will face death at the end of this life so where will you be? We are not a mistake. Don't let people say that we came from nothing. Nothing breeds nothing. There is a God and He loves you... don't reject Him.

    I appreciate the effort you put in to helping others! I have the smaller 10hp version on my kids inflatable boat (inflatable bottom) but it’s just on the limit to plane with me in there together with them so a little more hp would be great. Is it possible to replace the full carburettor or just some nozzles to go from 10->15hp?

      the 6hp-15hp all had the same block of that era! the 9.9 idles a bit smoother than the 15hp , and has more low-end grunt. the only benefit of the 15hp is at the upper 5500rpm limit . trust me, not worth it.

    I wanted to ask. If you spray in to the intake while the outboard was working, with a carbon cleaner, will it be necessary to disassembly it? Will it be bad for the engine?

    • @creativerepairing2960
      @creativerepairing2960  ปีที่แล้ว

      Spraying carbon cleaner in the intake won't do anything for the carburetor as there are small passage ways gas travels through as well as the carburetor bowl itself which only pump gas into the intake. Carbon cleaner works well under certain circumstances to fix low cylinder compression. I have a video on that on my channel.

  • @aaronthoj2000
    @aaronthoj2000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video!!! I wanted to ask you or anyone to see if you have a clue what could be wrong with my motor. Today I went to the swamp meet and picked up a grayish Mariner 15HP. The engine and carb looks exactly like yours. I tested it and it wouldn't start. Check and there are sparks. Traced the fuel up to the carb and it's good. Tested with started fluid inside chamber and still no start. Tested starter fluid into the carb and still no start. It acts like it wants to start but will not. Checked the fuel cut off switch and it's fine. Took carb apart and carb looks like it was recently rebuilt. Checked and air blow everything except the enrichment valve or the bottom nut, spring, ball or the passage. I put everything back and tested again. It feels like it wanted to start but still can't. I removed the gear safty lock on the pull start and attempted to start the motor in forward gear. It started if I pull the choke and leave in the forward gear. Once I switch to neutral, it'll die out. What could be the issue? I'm going to order a new carb kit and give it a good cleaning myself.

      Carburetor kit sounds like a good idea particularly the needle valve rubber tip. Maybe take a look at the reed valves when you have the carb off.

      15Hp uses a WMC-49a carb (depending on year). The 15hp has a larger diameter inlet for more air and fuel.

    • @creativerepairing2960
      @creativerepairing2960  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your reply. Years ago I came to know Jesus through faith. Years later he was proven to me through science. Years after that upon receiving the power of the Holy Spirit as spoken about in the bible, I began praying over the sick and seeing them recover, seeing deaf ears receiving hearing, seeing injured arms and legs being instantly healed, casting demons out of oppressed people in the name of Jesus and seeing with my own eyes their manifestations, seeing demons talking through these oppressed people as they flee a person's body by the power of the name of Jesus. You can't tell me "it's a fantasy cultist religion" because I have seen His power in action with my own eyes and once you have seen the power of the Holy Spirit you can never go back.
      Mark 16:15 And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. 16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” I hope you find Jesus before it is too late, eternity is a long time!

    Was looking for a Merc carb cleaning video and instead got unsolicited preaching hidden in a "how to". First of all, preaching without asking permission or notifying in advance is rude and disrespectful of a person's existing spiritual beliefs. Second, why do you have to hide your message and sneak it in? Hiding and sneaking is pretty sketchy behavior and immediately makes a viewer suspicious of the message. All you needed to say was already said on your T-shirt. People either get it or they don't. If you feel compelled to preach and witness, do it in a forum that is suited for it. So, now you have my message.
