    Throwing in some advice of my own for newbies. Some specific monsters make hella good training dummies when you're practicing a certain bow type. I recommend Garangolm for Rapid since he's got all sorts of weak spots to aim at. Tetranodon for spread since he's so chunky. And noodle shaped monsters for Pierce. Rathian is also a good choice for either bow type. If you're cozy fighting a rathian then you're doing great. If you really wanna practice avoiding attacks, try Espinas. Yes he's scary and charges a lot but thats why I like practicing against them. For non Sunbreak movement practice, Tigrex is good since he's a very chargey screamy boy. Also don't forget monsters like the raptors. Yes they're weak but I think they make good headshot practice while you're avoiding status effects like sleep and poison. If you're practicing Pierce, aim down the monster so that the arrow goes through as much of it as it can. That's the pierce bread and butter. If you're firing at the side of a monster, it's not going to be great. Hence why the noodley monsters are so fun with it.

      Another good one I feel is Mizutsune for pierce and spread. You'd think spread wouldn't be as effective against it, but it's back hitzone is massive and super vulnerable to spread bows just melting through it. It's very easy to keep it near permanently toppled just from hitting its back. It's attacks are also pretty fast moving so it's good dodgebolt practice too.

    I think one issue with getting dodgebolt timing just right is that sometimes we might underestimate the duration of an attack's hitbox. Many monster attacks can have lingering hitboxes that either last longer than one would expect or the hitbox might be just a tad longer than you might have thought that the dodgebolt's i-frames don't cover. Which is why I usually pair it with Evade Extender, especially when fighting chonky monsters. So...pretty much trial-and-error.

    dodgebolt is pretty much the same as adept style in the way that you use it less to dodge away from an attack, but more to dodge into the attack, but with way less i-frames. Like a tail sweep for example, normally you'd want to dodge and avoid the attack altogether, but for dodgebolt it's best to dodge into the tail where the attack will pass through you the fastest so by the time your i-frames end, the hitbox has already gone past you and you can counter attack freely. Pretty much the same with bladescale hone and adrenaline skills too which are some of my favourite skills in the game since they reward you for risk taking.

    Before I watched a video on dodgebolt, I thought it was a regular melee. Felt almost useless. Until I tried a spread bow with blast element.
    Instead of using it as a counter, I would use it to reposition myself while still getting in some decent damage. And with a blast bow you get the occasional 100+ dmg added to the initial hit. Eventually I accidentally countered a monsters attack and then I was like “ohhhh I get it now, I like my way better though.”
    But, either way, dodgebolt is also best used when you know the monster well. Learned that the hard way 😂

    I'm surprised that Evade Extender wasn't mentioned here, I feel extremely sluggish as a bow player without it. Even the bowguns can get some benefit out of it. I don't really need to I-frame through a monster's attacks if it can't catch me to begin with.
    Your dodges will only work in four directions that are cardinal *to the direction your camera is aimed at*. You can sort of curve the path of your dodges around a monster that way by first aiming your camera a little to the side of the monster and then dodging that way.

    I went into this video for advice as someone who is burnt out on lance and wants to try bow. And I got good advice, but then I reached 10:46 I just had to stop and question your statement that "a large number" of the Bow speedrunners I see on TH-cam who don't use Evade Window are using "an i-frame cheat". That is a strong accusation to make. Is there any evidence that cheating is that rampant among Bow speedrunners? Any speedrun channels for me to avoid?

    • @iixxion
      @iixxion  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I would recommend you avoid them all. PC mods and console emulation run rampant. If you want to understand it better, immerse yourself in that community for a while and you'll see more drama than you can imagine.

    Hi, I have a question, in tip 3, if you have a weapon, for example the Arzuros bow, that its charged dispels have: lvl1 -> Fan4; lvl2 -> Fan3; lvl3 -> Fan1. In these cases where the highest charged level has a weaker shot type, what should be done? How could I block a charge level without losing much dps or does the fact that the shot type is weak at a high charge level not influence so much?

    • @iixxion
      @iixxion  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      test the shot levels on the dummy and see which one your prefer. usually when you see a bow with the shot levels inversed, it means its designed to spam the charge level 1 shot. So often you can optimize for that shot and change up your playstyle and be effective using it.

    Excellent video man
    But what I’m curious about is breaking parts
    Yes go for the weak spots to deal damage, but let’s say you’re grinding for a monster’s entire armor set and you gotta break everything but, there’s only one or two spots on the body that take raw damage. Do you just chip away regardless or do something else?

    • @iixxion
      @iixxion  ปีที่แล้ว

      Every part takes raw damage. Some take more than others for sure. Best way to break parts with bow is: partbreaker 3, then use melee and full-charge dragon piercer shots to tear him up. These attacks have boosted PB abilities that nobody talks about. My upcoming video covers this, among other things!

    • @lazthespaz2290

      @@lazthespaz2290 orange numbers mean you're hitting a "weak spot" for that damage type (cutting, blunt, ammo). It's a quick way for the game to tell you "keep hitting here".
      It's not always necessary, depending on your build and strategy. With the right build, you can hit all white numbers and still do insane DPS.

    The Arzuros Honeypot basically exists only for Dodgebolt/Melee Attack combos; think of it like a sword that you can _technically_ shoot at things, but feasibly shouldn't. It was many times better for efficient Quest completion times in all of Low Rank, even as it fell off due to the -absolutely moronic- _unusual,_ series-long insistence on weapons not upgrading every quest tier, and being -drawn from a soggy hat- chosen at _interesting_ times to be respected.
