Translation:
Night covers the earth
You aren't home
I'm staying in my bed
You're coming late (I think that's what that means)
Maybe you're dead
Maybe you're having fun
Fear crushes me
My spirit is going away
I'll stay tomorrow
Maybe you aren't coming also
Maybe you're dead
Maybe you're having fun
You have many friends
But they don't want me
Time is going quickly (or slowly idk)
Sleep isn't coming
If I open the door
Only the cold will come through
Maybe you're dead
Maybe you're having fun
Maybe you're having fun
Maybe you're having fun
I love how much meaning is fit into each line to tell a story about someone being worried that their friend or family member hasn't come home despite the time.
the last three lines sounds like the person is entering denial
I parsed "sina kama sin ala" as "You aren't coming back" personally -- but the subjectivity is the point!

i've started learning toki pona only a little while ago and i am so proud of myself for understanding at least a bit of the song
kalama musi sina li pona mute
Congrats then! Don't hesitate to ask for a clarification if you're struggling with some bits. I might provide English subtitles later as I've done for other songs in the past. pona tawa sina!
@@jansepulon i can't figure out what monsuta li ko e mi means. can you maybe help?
@@ewakupis5878 Sure! It means "Fear is crushing me". "monsuta" isn't in the official list of words, but has been widely used for a very long time (and figures in the recent TP dictionary). "ko" as a verb is maybe less orthodox, but remember that everything in TP can be a verb (or a noun, adjective or adverb)
@@jansepulon so ko as a verb here means to crush and monsuta fear? i only have seen monsuta used to mean monster
@@ewakupis5878 Yes to both. The official TP dictionary define "monsuta" as (in order): "fear, monster, horror, terror, beast, demon, devil, danger, ghost, creature, lion(!)" for the nouns.
bruh this sounds like i would actually hear this sometime on the radio, like how??
reminds me of how i would wait for my parents to come home as a kid
I had the same experience, so it partly inspired the song. There were other inspirations of course, but that was one of them for sure. Internet hug to you!
i really like it!
kalama musi ni li pona mute mute. kalama musi ike pi toki pona la mi wile mute!
I like imagining animations of my characters to songs that fit them, and this was the first toki pona song that i could understand line-by-line and choreograph like English songs!! it was a really fun feeling. kalama ni li pona li musi!
I'm happy you had fun with this sad song! I like making dark songs, dark atmospheres, but I prefer when people are happy! pona en olin tawa sina!
@@jansepulon :D

I'm new so just checking, but wouldn't sin and kin be pronounced like seen and keen?
You're correct, but I'm not (entirely) wrong either. Toki pona is a forgiving language in the domain of pronunciation. The official book even goes as far as saying that "dogi" would be an acceptable pronunciation for "toki". Local accents influence the way tokiponists talk but I'll keep your comment in mind next time I'll record a song and try not to shorten my "i"s so much!
is the cover art generated by AI? because i see the watermark
That's right. It was Dall-E's work.
