    In toki pona, every phrase has to rely on implied or situational meaning, just because of how restricted the lexicon is. The space for double meanings and other word play should be quite large, and the barrier to entry low. Perfect.

    This is amazing! I love how much thought was put into this. I haven’t heard of Toki Pona until literally today, and found this cover in the process!
    The vocalist did a really good job, too! It really goes to show how fluid translation can be across multiple languages-the English, Japanese, Spanish, and even this version all word their lyrics differently yet still convey the same general themes and subject matter of the song, and do so well, in ways that sound natural and flow well with the meter.
    It sucks that the Internet normally gets angry or toxic whenever anything translation or localization-related is brought up, you know? There’s this mentality that if something isn’t worded exactly the way it is in Japanese, or the original language, it’s automatically bad or wrong or was a mistake of some kind, but that’s not always the case-and a lot of the time it’s just how translation of any kind works. And that’s not even taking into account localization at all.
    Also, agreed. Penny is certified best girl.

    You should seriously have some video or anything that explains this whole rhythm heaven situation. I watch you for the linguistics and I don't understand at all these types of videos, and all the rythm heaven games are on ancient consoles for decades ago, and while I would really like to be a part of this ~~cult~~ community I don't really know how to enter it.

    @jan Misali recent research found that Uto-Aztecan, a Native American language family, was 30-40% Egyptian and Semitic in origin with over 2,700 cognate sets. It’s the life’s work of linguist Brian Stubbs, one of the few specialists in Uto-Aztecan, and also has a background in near eastern languages allowing him to recognize this strange connection. What do you think of this incredible new revelation?
    The paper is called “exploring the explanatory power of Egyptian and Semitic in Uto-Aztecan.”

    • @MenloMarseilles
      @MenloMarseilles 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is also a small use age of ‘lape’ as something soothing or restful, so maybe it could be thought of as wishes in the sense of them being something that would bring “rest” or “soothing,” or something… just maybe some kind of work around ‘wile lape’ not being a almost bad translation?

    Sp do the song lyrics change based on your subjective opinions and views of characters/places/things in the game, or do you just use the original writer's viewpoint? Also, is there a way to signal that "the following is not mine" for retelling a story and such?
