Would you recommend mixing color stains? Trying to match our arbor with or gazebo and looking to mix mahogany and walnut since the gazebo is brown with a little bit of red in it.
Great question!! In regards to mixing, I would say yes as long as the stain is stirred well and you mix enough, because you will never get the next lot just right.
What color should I use for a house with old cedar siding? It is all mostly grey currently, although there are some areas that still have a little bit of a reddish color coming through.

I live in a townhouse and the back section of my fence in cedar. About 8 years old and needs to be cleaned and stained. I am replacing the two side lengths of my fence (shared with neighbors) with pine. What product/color would you recommend to have the cedar 'match' the brand new pine?

If someone mixed 2:1 ratio Redwood:Mahogany would it look good? Or would it still look more mahogany dark? Just wanted a dark red. Prolly just coat it good with redwood until it’s dark enough. Also is there a need for sealant after staining if it’s oil based?

I just had new redwood fencing installed and am in the process of looking at stains. What is the difference between a water based and oil based stain for semi-transparent colors?
The EXPERT oil-based stain can easily be re-applied without a lot of future preparation, where as water-based typically has to be stripped, making them difficult and not as environmentally friendly as the strippers are highly toxic.
To achieve the colors. Are most applications 2 coats? Or does second coat make it a bit darker?
Great question Bob! Stain and Seal Experts is a flood coat system, so you don’t typically need two coats. One coat offers enough pigment and oil to coat the wood. More coats will make it richer not darker. A second coat is not necessary, as that is the property of Stain & Seal Experts oil based technology. Hope that answers the question :)

What would you recommend on faux shutters made from cedarwood ?

Great question! Thank you for asking. It all depends on how the light the color of the stain is and if the fence is in direct sunlight. A good base line is two years, if the fence is in sunlight. If the fence is in the shade, you may even be able to go 4-5 years. The great thing is with oil based stain you can just re-apply on top, so makes touch-ups and re-applications easy. Hope that helps! Fence Armour, I previously applied a semi transparent oil based stain to my treated pine exterior wood deck, and I would like to re-stain the deck in a darker color. Doing a water test, the wood is ready to stain. Any recommendations, can I clean, prep, sand, and apply another coat of oil based stain in a darker color? Thank you! John

I keep having a big problem with different stains not being true to their color samples in their booklets. Most of the browns come out way more red then the samples or dont look the same at all. What do I need to do?
It depends on the wood you’re using mostly and how moist the wood is also. The harder wood will take stain differently and also the natural color of the wood also changes the color of stain
Semi solid will be closed match because the pigment sits on top of the wood

So my pressure treated yellow pine has white spots. According to google it's either tree sap or from the treatment. It bleeds through the stain and sealer. What's the best way to get rid of that?
Is it coming from the wood or is it dripping from the a tree? If it is from the tree, a mineral spirits will get it out, but the stain would need to be touched up there. Hope this helps!
It's a brand new fence. All the boards have a green hue that a deck cleaner took off, but the white spots (tree sap that was squeezed out fr treatment)still remain. I'm guessing my last resort is to try a pressure washer. The spots look Like someone just sprinkled little bleach droplets spots randomly on the boards. I'm No professional and just going by a Google search of what are the white spots on my pressure treated wood. Looks like crap and if the pressure washer doesn't work i might have to result to a solid stain and hope it covers. I wld never use PT wood again if that's the case. I prefer the woodgrain.

did you just rename redwood to sequoia or is it a different color all together? im trying to find any real world examples of it and having the hardest time. really wished you guys just sold samples of the actual stain, not just pieces of wood that are an entirely different species than anything im trying to stain.

@@Fencearmor ok now I'm confused. You said redwood was a semi transparent in the video, now it's a transparent on the websites. Also, is there a sample can on the actual stain and seal experts website because that website actually works. I can't get fence armor to do anything.
