    Practice on a key you don't need!
    It's very easy to break 1 or both of the retaining plastic clips on the back of the key cap.

    I have a real issue trying to get the key back on
    Does the retainer clip have to go in a certain way up ?
    I bought replacement keys for the top row
    The esc key and the arrow key

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the clip needs to go in a certain way. For reference, try taking off another key's Cap and seeing how its Clip is installed.

    When I slides the metal bars it still was extremely loose how do I fix that

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The metal bars were loose or the Key Cap was loose? The metal bars usually will be loose. They dont really snap into place. They kind of just float around there until the Key Cap is snapped on. They have to be perfectly in place and centered for the Key Cap to snap on correctly. The Retainer Clip also has to be installed correctly. It may take a few tries.

    Ah yes so all the stuff from inside the key have fell out and i can not get them back in

      If the Retainer Clip fell out and fell apart, refer to another Clip on how to put it back together :)

    What if the key is still loose after putting it back in

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either its not installed correctly or the Retainer Clip is damaged. Usually the Clip is just not snapped into place correctly. Double check that :)

  • @kesses9041

    I have a acer swift 3, and one of the keys fell off. I ordered and replaced to retainerclip, sucessfully, but the key in it self seems broken, because it won´t click back on. I've compared it to another key, and one small plastic "dot" is gone from it. Can't the keys too be broken somehow underneath? Am so frustrated!

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if I understand the question but yes, the keyboard can itself be broken. The metal pins on the keyboard can be bent or broken off. In that case, the retainer clips cant correctly attach to the keyboard.

    • @kesses9041
      @kesses9041 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PC_Monkey thank you so much for your reply. I meant if the small plastic part (with the letter on it) can't be broken too? It won't click back/stay on, only falls off. The retainerclip seems okay after I replaced it. But the key in it self seems to be the problem.

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kesses9041 If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap. It is possible that the clips under the key cap are broken but that does not happen too often. To check that, turn it upside down and compare it to another key cap you remove

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it works fine, I'm not sure I would risk damaging it by removing it to get the click sound back.
      However, if its not making the click sound, I would assume its not correctly snapped into the clips or the bars.
