Thank you so much for this video! My son ripped the keys off of my MacBook and took the components of the switch apart. This is my first Mac so I had no idea how to fix this. This video definitely saved me a lot of frustration and a trip to geek squad!
This is, by FAR, the best video on replacing the Macbook Air Keys. Thank you so much. It helped me so much. I hope everyone else who encounters this problem finds this video first!
Thanks for the tutorial dude. I went into my grandmas house for a small time, but due to the fact that she has 3 cats and 1 dog, I had to clean my MacBook literally every week. One day, I was a little too fast and removed those. At first, I thought I had broken it, but lucky me, I saw this tutorial. Now, I did that, but it’s like pushing a flat button.
What do I do if it's simply not snapping back on? I've tried so many times now and my "V" key, after removing the cap to clean the inside, is not popping back on, I've checked and there's nothing broken, originally it popped in too much and stayed down so it wouldn't have the bounciness like the other keys, but now it's just simply not staying, I'm pretty sure only the top part of the key is locking in, but the bottom part doesn't seem to want to be popping back in. What should I do?
@@larry_berry No lol, it's still broken. I now just have a tiny piece of blu-tack on the underside of the key which is helping it stick, it's even retained the same bounciness as the regular keys (it's still a bit wonky, but much better), so it definitely helped a bunch.
Thanks! Using your tutorials I cleaned the keyboard of a 10 year old Macbook Air with a keyboard that probably have never been deep cleaned before. It's like new! I removed all the normal keys, arrow keys, F-keys, cmd and shift keys and all the normal keys' scissor switches. One thing to note is that the up arrow's switch is upside down compared to the rest. Didn't dare to remove the even larger keys as I was afraid something was gonna break. A couple of switches separated but I was able to reassemble them because none actually broke which I think is impressive of 10 year old plastic.
This video was AMAZING! I started with your previous video on how to remove and clean that went awry. This video helped me backtrack and fix my mistakes and everything is up and running like it is new again! THANK YOU!!!!
This was perfect! I thought I completely broke my command key. The butterfly piece had come apart, and I didn't know what to do with the support bar when putting it back together. This helped me fix the whole thing in no time. Much appreciated!!
now there is no bounce back on the key i fixed, works but is like pushing a flat button. tried twice, no broken bits, everything right direction and snapped in. kind of annoying and very little info on it online.
Thank you! I popped off one key to clean it then it laid flat. So I took it off completely even both pieces separated, your instructions were very good and I got to pop it back and it’s no longer flat! Btw I used my tweezers for this 😅
THANK YOU for making this video! Key popped off and I had no idea I was missing a part, so was able to go on an adventure to find it before vacuuming it up. Fixed it and good as new!
This is probably a long shot, but is there any chance you have ever replaced the rubber cup itself. I do not want to use glue as I know the risk of doing so with the motherboard being directly under the keys. I have yet to find a video on the internet with a fix to this issue. Thank you for any help in advance.
Thank you so much. I thought I was doomed but when I saw your tutorial my keyboard fix like because I wanted to clean my keyboard I popped it off. You deserve an Oscar winning award my guy.
My "m" key is no longer sticking up because I removed it to clean out debris. it still works, surprisingly, but the fact that it doesn't actually press down is incredibly annoying. can anyone help me lift the key back up so it's all springy again?
Did anyone notice the keys being a bit higher and clicky-er than before removal? I cleaned a key and now is seems a little loose, makes a clicky sound when pressed, unlike the other keys that are more silent
Thanks for the video! It was indeed hard to fix the damn "delete" key on my MacBook air since it had a slightly different design. Following the "ridge" to match the bottom and top parts did the trick. Thanks again!
Oh sweet lord (Eric), thank you for this video. Like Krista, I accidentally took out the key switch when trying to clean my "S" key and these detailed instructions saved me and my "S." Thanks a bunch man!
Thank you for the explanation. During the process I accidentally unglued the little white flexible dot and now the key is not as responsive... Do you have any idea of what glue I can use to glue it back properly ?
I've seen a couple comments like this already, but what if the key is stuck flat...I've tried to replace it and when I press it down it stays depressed.
Thanks, this had exactly what I needed to know, after hours of searching through unhelpful videos. I reassembled my scissor switch and got it reinstalled and working again.
I accidentally pulled off two keys, one I only pulled off the keycap but the other I also pulled out the plastic pieces. I managed to put back the first keycap and the plastic pieces but I can't put back the second keycap. What should I do? I did find a crack on the second key cap but I don't see why it would effect whether it should go in or not. I cant tell my parents to ask a professional to fix it nor buy me a new cap because they would literally kill me for pulling out these keycaps. Also your video was really useful! Thank you so much for the help

Hi @@thecollegepicker Eric! I'm back with a follow-up question :) I've noticed in your videos that the little rubber/silicone cups under the key caps (in the center of the switch) seem to be attached? Do you know what to do if one comes loose? (The one on my "A" key was unattached last time and I just put it in the center of the switch before I put the cap back on, and I think that might be why it's not working again.)
This video was really helpful thank you. I may have inadvertently bent a piece of the switch in the small space where the two pieces of the scissor switch connect. After straightening it and reconnecting the keys, it works well. Should I be concerned or is it likely fine?
Hello man, I hope you reply to me, I have just broken one of the keys(right arrow) and you know how there is like a hook structure kinda hold it in place? it is broken in one side of the key, so I need a new key, do you how to buy a new one? it is mac air m1 btw
