- Today I review the NEW New York Style Pizza from Papa John's®!
Available for a limited-time, Papa Johns is offering New York style pizza, with eight oversized, foldable slices and what it calls "just the right balance of crust and toppings." Papa Rewards members get exclusive early access this week. It will hit menus nationwide beginning Dec. 27 through March 13, priced at $13 for a one-topping pizza.
I went with the plain cheese pizza for this review!

It looks just like the normal papa johns pizza, i guess they just stretched a large to an extra large and called it Ny style. Same as Shaqaroni without the pepperoni.
Best description is its between thin crust and regular crust. It has the regular crust flavor but less dough per bite. Probably the best crust so far but at the end of the day it still just Papa John's and can vary based on location. Also Shaqaroni is double cheese and extra pepperoni so this won't be greasy if you order your normal style.

GF is a GM at PJ's, it's their regular dough, stretched out to 16 instead of 14. Nothing special about it.

I live in NY and also had Yanks season tickets for years. Bro, there is no way this tastes like anything we have here. My area doesn't even have a Papa John's because there are so many local places that do it for real.

@@weenieinabun82 Because I have had Papa John's and also real NY pizza, that is all I need to do. They use the same ingredients for this pizza as all their others, it's just more dough stretched thinner.

Appreciate the review. Was debating giving it a try over the stuffed crust but...really, it just appears to be an extra large Papa Johns. Like, they didn't use a heavier cheese or anything. Not sure you can call it NY based on size only. Thanks for covering this!
The only difference between that and their regular pizza is they're using a dough press now in all Papa John's

@@loitersquadX true but, I was thinking they may have opted for a different heavier type of cheese that blended differently than there standard cheese does. NY style is melted together more evenly and seem a heavier than Papa Johns lighter fluffier style cheese. Note: I am a fan of both, so not knocking one or the other, just noting I anticipated a difference in ingredients if maybe just slightly.
I work at Papa Johns and to make our "NY Style" we use a large dough and stretch it onto an extra-large sheet.

some of the best pizzas i had were in NYC. i visited so many "NYC" style pizza shops and none of these compared to the real NYC pizzas. even this one is close but not there yet.

Papa John's video with an leadoff ad for Domino's. Also, Papa John's has had thin Crust pizza for years.
I just got one of these -- and I am not sure if they just gave me regular dough/style -- but definitely didn't have that flop

No crunch on the crust .....too much flop....too doughy ......Not a good copy .....alot what makes NY style pizza, is it's crust...it has to have a crunch to it and the mozzarella has to be 2% without the sweet sause papa John's uses.....
I lived in one of the biggest cities in the U.S. for over 15 years, and I can tell you after speaking with many people from NYC, basically none of them agreed with one another on what New York Pizza exactly was. I found it very telling, and simultaneously ridiculous, especially considering that New Yorker's constantly complain about the pizza when they voluntarily leave New York for another city. As for me, where I live now we have a man who owns a pizza shop who is from Brooklyn. The pizza is amazing I will say. And when I lived where I used to live the pizza was amazing at the New Yorker owned shops I visited, but yet they were not all the same either. Not by a long shot. Point is, there is NO universally agreed upon definition of what New York Pizza is, not even by New Yorker's themselves. I doubt even I would ever mistake a Papa Johns Pizza for a more "authentic" NY Pizza, but I've been around enough New Yorker's to know that basically all of them describe it differently, at least to a degree anyway. Ultimately if you like something that is all that matters. I don't like Papa Johns, but if others do more power to them.
I lived in NY for 25 years. Now I live in southern Maine. NY style pizza is something I'm very familiar with. AKA taste of home...we will see in 25 minutes. Hope it's close to NY Pizza.

I know NY pizza better than anyone. I have 5 NY yankee hats, and 3 Knicks jerseys, so obviously I know NY pizza. This pizza is just their normal pizza in a bigger size.
Nothing like a NY slice of Pizza. The undercarriage doesn't flop. It's just is hard as the crust. Get it right! Country Bastard.
For chain pizza, I actually like Papa Johns and you can't beat the price, but I just can't see it being the type of pizza that's good for folding.

I had no idea that Papa Johns was so expensive. They are literally twice the price of Domino's. I just spent $43 on a large pizza and breadsticks. Think this is my last order 🤣🤣 I Google "papa johns expensive" And there are literally people talking about how expensive they are online.

I put it in the oven and it gave the crust the crispness I wanted. After that the pizza was a solid 8/10. Before 6/10

Cheese is a must to review a pizzas flavor, most everyone has the same pepperoni, most have the same sausage, literally everyone has the same veggies and ham, what's different is the sauce, the crust, and for some reason cheese.
So what I'm hearing is a flat-ish. Papa johns pizza, too bad I hate papa johns pizza, which... Like what did I expect, I guess I was hoping for like "oh my god it's completely new!", but I shoulda known better, maybe I'll try it, maybe if I'm lucky the other will start competing to make the most new York pizza, but this was super helpful, thank you.

Lmao. Not sure if you watched the review. Or listened. I had season tickets to the Yankees for 4 years. Ate hundreds of NY pizza..CT pizza.. Boston Pizza. "Close" meaning it's close cuz you can fold it . Still needs to be thinner.. have done crunch. And a bunch of other things. It's a chain pizza that tried. But like I said in the video. No chain pizza will ever get it right. But you heard and saw what you wanted. Which is cool. But New Haven had the best pizza in the country. Hands down.

LOL!! If you remember Members Only jackets, you are older than you look! They were called shoulder epaulets. The jacket debuted in 1980. Price is good on this pizza and I would get just cheese on it. But, I want more structure to the dough. They call the dough “hand tossed”……really? 🤔 Papa John’s trains their pizza chefs to hand toss the dough?

It's not even close to New York style. I think a lot of ppl use the name "New York" style because of the cut or size of the pizza....but its in the crisp of the bite and the crisp of the fold. Plus the crazy good flavor of the dough and cheese.....if it's not a soft crunch....its meh...that pizza just looked like the dough was too soft and basically a regular papa John's pizza cut New York style.
