What’s killing Papa Johns is the fact that their service is horrific. No matter where I’ve gone, and given them a chance, the delivery order is wrong and never any accountability. I eventually just gave up and have stopped ordering. The pizza is actually very good but not worth the hassle in getting the order right and delivered on time.
I'm sorry :-( I rem that experience with dominos it was a nightmare. My local PJ hasn't failed me yet tho.
That’s more of a store thing than a brand thing, the first store I ever worked at with papa johns was absolute hell, it was me and my manager running the whole show and you know damn well we messed up some nights. The next papa John I worked at, near my college, was much more organized and we barely got any complaint calls back
That’s just where you ate it from. My papa johns isn’t amazing but it’s still organized and I almost always get the right stuff

Part of the recovery is the economy. Domino's and others had cheaper pizza while people were penny pinching.
Some Guy I dunno. Pizza is always a razor thin margin business. Neighborhood pizza is generally the best, though more expensive. In a high competition marketplace, the quality is rarely going to be head and shoulders. So value is the way to go.
Alot of the brick and mortar pizza joints offers things many franchises do not have, like pizza by the slice or even a full bar. Some are even open after the bars close which you cannot get with a franchise like Domino's. It's all about filling a need.
I’d prefer going to a local pizza shop than Papa John’s for quality.
Except the price of domino's is cheaper but delivering charge is 4 bucks where I'm at.

I quit ordering Papa John's several years ago because I my opinion the quality had fallen off far too much. It used to be my favorite.

I guess it depends where you live, because it’s NEVER even crossed my mind to order from one of these places, but I’m spoiled living in NYC which has the best pizza on the planet.

My family got Papa John's almost every Friday for 20 years until recently, since they kicked out the founder the quality has gone so far downhill that we get pizza elsewhere now
Every time i've ordered from them in the past 20 years the pizza was awful. It's dry and bland, from Nashville to Pensacola and finally to Chicago where I've lived since 2009 it's the same dreadful garbage every time. The only redeeming feature used to be their crust but they changed that a couple of years ago and now the whole thing is inedible. I mean seriously, why do they only put a tablespoon of sauce on their pizzas?
I worked full and part time for Papa John's for about 12 years. I met him on 3 occasions all of which he was already or proceeded to get embarrassingly drunk, treated employees like dirt and was inappropriate with female employees. Nuff said.

At my local Papa John's you can get a large carry-out pizza for $6.99 (USD) at lunch time and delivery is between $15-$20 depending on what I get.

As someone who has worked and mastered the pizzas at Papa John's, Pizza Hut and Domino's, I must say that a good and fast pizza relies on who is preparing it.
Of course working like a carrying mule and being paid the same does take its toll on your motivation.
The rest depends on good marketing and business strategy.
Meanwhile our local chain, Mountain Mike's pizza just makes good pizza for both dine in and delivery. So I buy from them.

It was good back then. I worked for a local pizza place back in the 90's and the Hut across the street gave us a run for our money. Now they are pretty bad and really overpriced.

There’s a Papa John that opened near me during the summer of 2019
I stopped buying from them because the closest location redrew their delivery radias, stopped delivering to my area, and never opened one within radias, so now I get Dominos 😥

In Canada pizza Hut has died and has take out only stores, big huts sold off. Dominos still cardboard but very popular with university students. Little ceasars? Haven't seen one for years although they exist somewhere still. Found my first Cdn Papa John's on the local university campus, used to love them back when I lived in USA for a few years.
Little Caesar’s in of course still a very big thing in America and Pizza Hut here is about in the same vote.

That was my attitude after 2017. They admittedly were my favorite pizza, though I couldn't afford them much. After everything hit the fan with the CEO, I definitely wasn't eager to purchase them. But even if the former CEO isn't part of the corporate side of the company, I believe he still owns shares so he's still getting money off of the company. And so long as that's happening, I'm not buying.

Love Papa John's, they are my favorite. The one in my town closed though, sadly.
They closed for a reason, the one in my town did also. Their pizza is trash & not enough people were ordering from them.
In the UK Papa Johns is still pretty popular. I have 2 located within 3 miles of me and its definitely more popular than Pizza Hut, especially now they've added lots of vegan choices to their menu.

13:57 John doesn’t have a huge ego. He seems like one of the most down to earth guys on h3’s podcast. he says he relates more to a common man than a governor. Papa john is misrepresented in such a dark light that he doesn’t deserve.
