    Definitely deserves a sub. I love your straightforward explanations, no waffle just pure answers. I recently bought the SM7B and I've been struggling to get it sounding how I want it, but thanks to this I'm incredibly pleased! I do my EQ in DaVinci Resolve 18 after recording, but this is the perfect fix to my audio issues for my OBS filters, I must have had poor compression beforehand because it'd sound way too quiet in parts. Also the tips about raising the attack ms slightly really helped, I hate having the first or last parts of my words cut off since there's literally no way to fix it post-production.
    Thanks again for the great tutorial! If ever my TH-cam buddies buy an SM7B I'll be sure to send them this video. 💙

      Appreciate the kind words!! 🙏
      Yeah, I struggled with my SM7B for a while trying to get it to sound how I like it..
      I recently dialed my compression back a TINY bit to make it sound a bit more natural but it depends on what you like in your content..
      I used to have
      Ratio of 5.6:1
      And now it's
      4:1
      And ive changed the threshold from -25db
      To - 20 instead..
      Everything else stays the same though..
      Worth testing out to see which you like more 🥰

    Buy a camera they say, buy a mic they say. Bought both and now I have a nice camera and mic that I don’t use. OBS won’t pick up audio and hooking the camera up direct to shure sm7b gives a horrible buzzing. If I record in audition the mic sounds decent, only problem is I can’t import my camera feed into audition. Camera and mic work separately but that’s about all. I’m all tapped out on funds from buying what people say in videos.

    • @ajsarsfield
      @ajsarsfield  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it depends on how bad your background noise is...
      If you have a LOT of background noise..
      Fans, family pets etc then Nvidia is probably better..
      A noise gate Can be a bit jarring but you could do a very light one so with a LONG hold/release time so the gate "close" doesn't sound as jarring it's more of a fade out once you stop talking

    Hello. I noticed that I can hear the noise gate closing and opening when I’m speaking through the microphone. What is the settings do I need to tweak to reduce the noisy gate’s noise please?

    • @ajsarsfield
      @ajsarsfield  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That would be the attack & release Time
      Attack= how quickly it Opens
      That's always good to have fast though cause otherwise it'll cut off the start of your words..
      And then the "release" is probably what you'll want to make longer..
      The larger the release is, the longer it takes to close so will be less noticeable and less abrupt..
      Itll feel more like a fade out than an on off switch!
      Increase that & test until you feel happy with how it sounds 🔥

    Peace of ART tutorial. But any suggestion for two guys sitting next to each other with the mics 5 feet away doing content? After we record the track on my mic is around those -7 to -10 db and the other one is picking up my sound up to -20db! Idid some test with being fist away but its clipping a lot.

    • @ajsarsfield
      @ajsarsfield  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Is there no way to get the microphones closer??
      5 feet away is quite a lot, even for good shotgun mics!
      And filters etc won't really be able to "fix" that
      The further away mics are, the more you have to turn up the gain,
      Which also means the LOUDER the room noise will be
      so you'll probably get a ton of reverb & BG sound when using them that far away
      Its why most people these days get those wireless lapel "clip on mics" as each person can wear one and its close to their mouth?
      .
      Obviously if you cant afford that type of setup, Don't be afraid to put your mics IN your shot, people would rather your audio sound good than having perfect looking images
      Unless it's physically not possible due to the type of content you make...

      @@ajsarsfield Bro, you replied right after. I really appreciate that and the fact that you also made an exastuve answer. We both use Fduce SL 40 on USB. And it sounds great. We decided this brand as we tried a lot of different such as Rode NT, Hyper Duo and solo cast and this Fduce is picking up less noise then all three previous. Still cant afford Shure mics. When i said 5 feet away i ment the mics are 5 feet away from each other in distance, but each of us is approx a fist away from our own mic. Once again, i really appreciate your answer. 👊

    • @ajsarsfield
      @ajsarsfield  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Always happy to reply if I have time to 😅
      Fdeuce mics are a solid option tbh, the Shures are great but there isn't a £300 difference. Especially if you add filters to them & have it mixed woth music or games etc 🙃
      But your best bet with your current setup is; 1 get the mic as close as you comfortably can, almost lips touching and turn the gain down (you've mostly done that already)
      2 Point the "back" of the microphone towards the other person that should help avoid picking their voice up as much or at least keep them quieter
      And other than moving the person farther away or putting a blanket or something between you,
      All you can do from there, is make sure your noise gate & noise supression is setup okay.
      (I'd try having them talk in the background while you set the noise gate level to see if you can cut them out)
      But if you 2 are talking at the same time those filters won't help that much as the filters cant distinguish WHO is talking, just that somebody is 🙃

    Should I turn my MIC gain down to 0 on the actual Mic itself. I use a Blue Yeti. Also, should I set my default Mic volume setting on the PC to 80 or 100?

    • @ajsarsfield
      @ajsarsfield  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Majority of the time you want the PC mic gain to be at 100%
      Although sometimes they come up as "db" so in that case put it as 0dB
      And then starting at 0 gain on the Yeti..
      Increase the gain dial (while talking)
      Until it hits in that -15 to -10db range in OBS meters
      And that should be a good base level to start from before adding in the other filters

    I did everything you recommended in this video and it sounds much better. My only issue right now I think is the noise gate. When I have it on, my talking cuts in and out kind of abruptly and unnaturally. Is there a way to make this sound more smooth?

    • @ajsarsfield
      @ajsarsfield  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      YES!!
      If its cutting in and out too abruptly I'd probably increase the hold and release time a little bit..
      You obviously want it to open quickly so it catches you when you start talking but maybe you want it to close slower once you stop saying things.. more of a "fade out" than a cut off
      As long as your thresholds are set correctly..
      I'd increase hold to 250 and maybe release time to 250 as well..
      but obviously you'll have to play around with this to get a sound YOU like...
      Audio is annoying, because it's so subjective to every voice n space 🙃

      @@ajsarsfield all of your suggestions in the video definitely helped 100%, that’s the only issue. It’s very loud in my space because the AC is right next to where I stream. I will try what you just recommended and play around with it. Would you suggest noise suppression? And what is the difference between noise suppression and noise gate?

    • @ajsarsfield
      @ajsarsfield  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cosplayfitness YES!
      Especially if you have an RTX card.
      Noise suppression should help loads..
      www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/broadcasting/broadcast-sdk/resources/
      Download and install Nvidia audio effects here ^^
      and choose "Nvidia Noise removal" in OBS
      .
      .
      Noise gate is (as the name suggests) a gate..
      it opens and closes depending on the volume of the audio..
      Noise Suppression filters out certain frequencies to help cut out background noise.
      if you do add suppression In the filter list put it Between your Gate and Compression :)

    I followed your video and the settings work really well for when I project my voice or use the (what I like like to call) streamer voice, but when I whisper or speak naturally it clips out, which isn't great for me cause I'm a soft speaker ;-; do you happen to know what settings I might need to adjust so that my voice gets picked up If i speak softer?

    • @ajsarsfield
      @ajsarsfield  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My guess would be that your noise gate is setup a little to strong..
      If you speak softly then the noise gate might not realise youre speaking sometimes
      So I'd try lowering the threshold a few more DB
      And maybe extend the release as well by a 100 or 200 Ms

      Oh no! Not at all.
      You can just take the principles of this video and transfer that to the hardware you use..

      When I had my goxlr I did all the filters on that BUT because it didn't have a built in limiter i still added that in OBS..

      and if its at the end of speaking, it's probably the Release time being too quick,
      and potentially having the "close" a little bit too high...
