    Quick Tip: If you do Game Streaming or reactions to other media, you can set your voice compressor to send and have a compressor with a higher ratio listening on your media (Game, Video, whatever) Audio Channel. This basically does automatic volume ducking when you are speaking. This also works in basically every video editing software which has basic audio editing features. I'm using this setup to lower background music and sounds from the recordings when I do my voice over. It's handy and it also works with OBS for live streaming. So you can get the game sound to almost the same level as your voice while you're not talking, but lower it automatically as you begin to talk. Comes in handy if you are streaming games with voiced story moments, so the characters ingame can be at a comparable volume level as your own voice, but you can always talk over and be absolutely clear, cause it's auto-ducking.
    Audio Quality is a important thing to have a look at and I'm also constantly revisiting my setup and VFX-Chains. Let's do some audio magic. :-)

    • @bitzzzbytemedia
      @bitzzzbytemedia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Absolutely awesome! I knew it could be done, but didn’t think it would actually have a good effect to the streaming. My son’s stream Lego Super Heroes and the games is constantly narrating the story. This would be the solution!

    • @oliese
      @oliese 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Do you know any tutorial on how to do this? I dont understand the "set a voice compressor to send", what is that?
      Thanks in advance

    • @VPGTube
      @VPGTube 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@oliese do you want to do this in obs or another software. It differs from software to software where you find the setting. In OBS it's simple, you can just setup a compressor on the audio source you want to lower while speaking and at the drop down menu "sidechain/ducking source" you just set the microphone source. Play around with the compressor values and voila... 🙃
      Otherwise, just search for "audio ducking in *your software*"

    • @Andreas-ov2fv
      @Andreas-ov2fv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For those using software like Vmix, which does not have a sidechain/ducking feature built in, look up WTAutomixer VST3 plugin. th-cam.com/video/746sKNrsQmg/w-d-xo.html This is SUPER useful when you have several open mics and your guests get too close to one another.

    • @kingace7899
      @kingace7899 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@VPGTube quick question, but for audio ducking would I also need to change some of the settings as well or can I just leave the settings as default? (I'm using obs as my software. Also sorry, I'm kind of new to these things and just wanted some extra clarification)

  • @QuriusDesigns

    just a little tip, usually for vocals everything on the frequency spectrum under 100 hz is unwanted so you can cut it out. And if you adjust the bandwith of your low pass and/or hi pass band, be careful with the resonance it creates i could see that when you adjusted it you basically boosted frequencies between 80 and 100 Hz which will result in a rumbly sound that is just taking up space and will interfere with low frequencies of game music and sounds when you stream. another thing you can do is having seperate bell curved band and lowering the bandwith to something very narrow. Turn up the gain of that band and you can then slowly move it from 100 Hz up. If you hear any unwanted resonances from either a background noise or your voice you can lower the gain back down and cut it out around like -2 to -4db depending on how loud the resonance is. (you can repeat that step if you have multiple resonances just be careful to not do it too much) (btw its pretty frequent that you will have some harsh frequencies between 7k and 9khz with your " S' " and " T's ", especially if you don't have a pop filter.)

    This has been a really helpful video!
    I'm a guitarist so I'm already relatively familiar with a lot of the 'filters' mentioned in this video, but I'm not used to applying them in a setting based around - idk, presentation of the human voice, I suppose?
    You have a firm understanding of what these tools do and manage to explain it clearly & concisely with helpful examples.
    Though, I should note the general purpose of a compressor is actually to make audio levels more consistent across the board. You're correct about what it does when something exceeds the volume you want, but compressors generally bring the lows up, too. I'm not sure how to properly configure the compressor in OBS accordingly, though. Based on your video, it does seem to target high peaks rather than actually compressing the overall signal in a consistent way.
    Anyway, thanks for the video! This has been a big help!

    This is very informative video on how to improve our audio quality and the settings that we should dialed in in OBS. Thanks for sharing this.

    Very cool. I've been largely relying on the Blue Yeti software presets since I got mine setup since there are so many options I didn't understand. Some of them sound pretty good but this video helped me tune my own profile and get the best sound. Thanks!

    I tried the steelseries GG but it made my mic echo-y but I couldn't fix it no matter what I did. I use the Sampson Q2U which is perfect for the house I live in. This house is loud so I can't use a condenser mic. Now I am trying this video with the Equalizer. I hope it takes my audio mic to the next level for my streams and vids. Thanks for the video. Everything you explained was concise and precise.

    I almost got it. I just have a tiny bit of white noise when I am speaking. Pretty good when silent. Not perfect, but darn good. I am unsure which setting to fiddle with. Before this video it was cutting words off and an awful interference I cannot describe. Thanks for the great information. I appreciate it:)

    This is great and simple. I'll be streaming and recording from live events, but this will still help a lot. Can probably use a similar chain and settings for my video editing.

    You're one of the very few people who actually considers the human vocal range when setting up the EQ.
    I whish more people took the time to properly explain these things instead of just boosting frequencies for no reason.
