Look at what Alfred said to Bruce. The fever, the rage, feeling of powerlessness is what turns good men cruel. That's what Bruce felt when his parents were killed. He spent decades fighting all sort of things but Black Zero event took him right back to his trauma. People were dieing around him and he was powerless. Every nightmare he has - you can hear the sound of Word Engine in the background. Pure PTSD clouding his judgments to the point he doesn't want to hear or see anything else.
He's in the wrong and almost a villian for the majority of the movie and has to redeem himself next

This Batman is based off of "the Dark Knight" comics. In the Batman movies you've seen before he has killed people, but they don't make it seem like he has.
Anywho, Ben Afflecks Batman has been Batman for over 20 years vs Christian Bale who had been Batman 3+ years by the end. He's fought many villains, including the Joker (hinted at by him saying they don't trust clowns in Gotham), and the Batman suit all painted with "ha ha,.jokes on you Batman" was painted on that suit when Joker killed his sidekick Robin. To put that in perspective for all you MCU fans, this is basically if Zemo killed Spiderman and sent his body to Stark Tower with a note to Ironman. That would break him as a character!!! He had PTSD from the NYC battle in 2012 that almost ruined him in Ironman 3. At that point he killed henchmen with a machine gun for breaking a plastic dorra watch. Now imagine what Ironman would do if Spiderman, his trainee, was killed because of him. How would that affect him?
Then many years later with all that anger still built up, let's say MCU Captain Marvel came to earth and saved the world but destroyed a city in the process. Would a broken and angry Ironman be happy about that? Would he trust Captain Marvel to do the right thing or see her as a threat?
The line "even if there's a 1% chance we have to treat that as an absolute" is a point in statistics and psychology. Think of it as a chance of a bear being in a cave and you walk into it. There's a 1% chance it kills you, or you can just leave it. But off you leave it, what if the bear leaves the cave and goes on a killing spree in your neighborhood? That might only be a 1% chance, but if you have the chance to take down the bear and save countless lives, wouldn't it be worth killing it? (I'm not arguing either way, just making a point)
So the moral of my comment is "is Batman acting out of character?" Nope, as this is based off of the dark Knight comics, so any criticism against this character goes to the source material. Also, this character has been through emotional h*** and back. The Amazing Spiderman admits to having stopped pulling his punches after Gwen died. If Spiderman can get sympathy for doing the same thing, why can't Batman? (Because the ignorant can't think critically.)

Perfectly explained. Better than what I was going to say. Keaton's Batman killed. What I love about this movie is if all powerful Alien was suddenly among us? Half the world would freak out! If this was real life people would freak! A lot of people would be afraid of Superman. That News reel footage of people discussing should there be a Superman. The most realistic Superhero moment put to film.

    • @submandave1125
      @submandave1125 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

The "1%" line is classic risk analysis. Some things present an incredibly low chance of happening, btu if they do the effects are cataclysmic. For example, the odds of a stray asteroid striking the Earth are a small fraction of 1%, but if it happened it could wipe out civilization, so we spend a lot of money watching far out and tracking object trajectories to try and be better prepared if it looks like that might happen. Yes, 1% seems like very low odds, but if Superman goes off the rails everyone looses.
The part of the equation that Bruce wasn't accounting for is what are the costs of not having a Superman. The realization that the Earth avoided the threat of Doomsday solely because of Superman's existence is what finally shifts the balance of his thinking.

The reason Batman wanted Superman gone is because he knows if he ever lost control, he could end everything. He’s an ultimate power that nobody can do anything about. He saw first hand what happens just from a fist fight from more of Supermans people, who came because of him. He also got it confirmed from his dream, Superman can lose it if the few things that teather him to humanity is Lois and his mom. If they were killed, Superman could become authoritarian and ends always justify means. End war through total planetary subjugation. What does he care? He isn’t held to a humanity standard anymore. He’s the ultimate power. Batman doesn’t hate Superman, he just knows exactly what could happen to someone with ultimate power.

That’s not precisely it. Yes he was obviously horrified by what happened, but he knows that superman chooses to be good, but if he ever became not good that’s the end of everything. It’s the ultimate power in the hands of one guy who isn’t particularly special, and can be twisted or motivated to do evil in the name of good. Batman is extremely practical and knows exactly what happens when someone has that kind of power, confirmed by his dream, which was actually a vision of a possible future. This is all fleshed out in the comics, unfortunately the movies have to sort of spoon feed people obvious things because they miss the subtleties and underlying motivations. Batman doesn’t hate Superman personally, just what he has and that he is just a seemingly weak man inside that will come out in world ending ways if pushed too far.

But Superman can lose by holding back his strength, because he’s fundamentally a very decent person.
And Batman stands a chance because he would go to any lengths, hold nothing back. Because at his core, Batman is a bad person.
In the graphic novel that partially inspired this movie, Bruce Wayne explains that he knows he’s a criminal, all superheroes are criminals. It’s against the law to do the things that they do. Perhaps the connection you are missing as the reason Batman wants to take down Superman is in that early scene. Bruce was in the city that Superman fought Zod in from the first movie. He saw first hand how dangerous and destructive a Superman level fight could be. Bruce doesn't see Superman as a hero. Just powerful and dangerous. Perhaps It would help to know that in the comics Batman has contingencies for stopping each of the Justice League members if it should ever come to that.

  • @Vesohag
    @Vesohag 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

For me, Batman is very in character here. In comics he has contingency plans against every member of the league in case they become evil. And for him, Superman could become evil in any second. He lost a lot of people at the battle of Metropolis. So he has taken as his mission to avenge his "family" and save the world.
After 20 years in Gotham he hasn't seen a big difference in crime slowing down. New bad guys always appear. But there is only one Superman. He was indeed gonna kill him. His first cold blooded murder. But for stopped and realise Superman was just a guy worried about his own mom', human mom, safety. For him Superman was just an alien until that moment.
But it was a good reaction still!! Glad you still liked it she enjoyed it!
Now Wonder Woman, Suicide Squad Extended Edition (although it is still not the true director's vision, so you can skip it if you want) and then Zack Snyder's Justice League. A four hour epic!

They mashed several comic book storylines into this one. Animated DC movies don’t do that and usually follow comics more properly. Highly recommend you look into them.

I think one thinkg to understand about this particualr version of Batman is that he's like 20, 25 years into his career as the dark knight and his experiences have changed & molded him into what he is now. The destruction of his building in Metropolis, the loss of Robin, a countless number of things we can't possibly know have shaped experiences that have turned him into a bit of a bitter, ruthless and calculating man.
Earlier in the film (a scene I that was notably missing from the YT cut of thie reaction) he tells Alfred "Twenty years in Gotham, Alfred; we've seen what promises are worth. How many good guys are left? How many stayed that way?" It's not super hard to imagine how he ended up so cruel and bitter.
I think it also informs how he sees Superman. Sure, today the guy saving exploded space shuttles and people from disatrousfloods. What happens when he suffers a deep loss. Feels pain the way that Batman has? That Superman is a global threat. A threat with no discernible means of being stopped. The Knightmare dream sequence kinda nails that point home.
It takes nearly killing him and learning that Clark's mother shares his mother's name. It finally makes Brucerealize that this larger than life alien is far more human than he will ever be. Kinda kickstarts his old self. I think on paper it's a good arc for Bruce. The execution leaves a lot to be desired

Great reaction Blue! Here’s a little something for your troubles, but I’m so glad that you did get the Ultimate Edition after all… But yeah you got it right about Batman in the end. He mentions that he’s been at it for 20 years already, with Robin being killed by the Joker(that’s the suit with the Joker writing that Bruce was looking at in the batcave), and allies turning bad over the years. Those reasons, and the Krytonians’ destruction to Metropolis is why he didn’t trust Superman, and that’s why he had lost faith in the world and was so violent and merciless towards criminals. In all the other Batman movies, he’s just getting started or a few years into it as Batman, so we hardly ever see him dealing with all the losses and hopelessness. Also don’t forget Suicide Squad extended cut, which came out a year before Wonder Woman, and takes place in the time after Superman’s death. 💙

Are you sure about Superman being more stable? Can you imagine what it's like to spend your entire life keeping a tight control on every emotion, every impulse because the slightest mis-step could mean you might murder somebody by accident? That's on top of the same trauma that every child goes thru when learning they're adopted at a young age, and not even knowing who their parents are or why they left. Only in his case that's multiplied by a billion because he wasn't just abandoned by his parents, but by his whole world. Yes he learns the truth eventually but that never fully erases the trauma of the past. Not to mention it's never easy to stradle two worlds (in this case both literally and figuratively) and to live two lives. We all have trauma, that's just life. Superman's is pretty unique to him but it's still there. And when somebody keeping themselves under tight control finally breaks...

Batman already feared/hated Superman due to the destruction of Metropolis in the first Superman movie. Also, Bruce failing to save his people, his employees and whatnot, is reflective of the fact that Bruce requesting to leave the opera show early led to his parents getting killed. Bruce blames himself for their deaths and the deaths of his people working in Metropolis. Then all of that turns into anger towards Superman. This is underlined again by the fact that he had no idea one of his employees, whom he saved during the Metropolis attack, was mentally suffering and hated Superman only to blow himself up. Was it to try and kill Superman? Was it to send a message to Bruce? Either way, Bruce again blames himself for the Capital bombing and again that anger is directed at Superman - did he see something but not do anything? Was he too indifferent to the people to care about saving them?
Superman thinks that Batman's form of vigilante justice is inhumane and brutal. Batman started branding people? And then, on top of that, anyone with the branding was murdered - did Batman brand them for that purpose? To target them for murder because they snitched to Batman? 'This guy snitched so I branded him so when he's in prison others know he snitched and they will kill him and I see that as justice' is what Superman thinks Batman is doing. That's why Superman kicked the Batmobile to the curb and threatened him - something that further resolves Batman into believing Superman is too powerful to not be a threat if he ever turned against humanity. Then Lex finds Superman's ultimate weakness - how to destroy his image. You see, God is either all-powerful or all-good, and the same goes for Superman. By kidnapping his mother and saying 'Go kill Batman' he puts Superman in an impossible place. Either kill the Batman and prove to the world you are not all-good, and therefore lose humanity's trust. When that happens, Lex will be granted his silver bullet of Kryptonite to go kill Superman. OR go and fail to kill Batman, who uses kryptonite to kill Superman. And now Lex doesn't have to lift a finger. Either way, Superman loses.
For you and I we think this is all simple - that heroes just need to tell other people 'I'm a hero' and suddenly everyone is friendly and its all good. But the real way the world works is that the world is not split into black and white. There are more than 2 ideaologies beyond 'good' and 'evil' there are infinite amounts of grey zones in between. Superman could have no way of knowing Batman's intentions and vice versa.

There's a story in DC where a young Bruce Wayne is studying to become a lawyer and learns that there's a difference between the law and justice that aren't compatible. Bruce cannot fight against crime using the courts or the system because not everyone is held accountable nor are they held to the same standards under those laws and institutions. As Batman, he feels that he's human but the idea of Superman comes down to accountability. With Superman's power there's a heavy toll everyone human and mortal around him pays. Yes, Superman can save kittens from trees and orphans from burning buildings and stop missiles from hitting innocent villages, but if anything equal to him proposes a threat there's a chance many people will become casualties. For Bruce and Batman alike, the world is already destructive and hostile enough as it is, was, and always will be. Adding meta-humans like Superman felt like an imbalance that needed correcting. A threat that could get ugly if it wasn't fixed beforehand. Hence, the "Knightmares" he'd been having of a future of an authoritarian state of Superman. Bruce has a dark, pessimistic outlook on everything because he's only known and experienced the worst that humanity has to offer his entire life practically.

In case nobody else mentioned it, the outfit in Bruce's cave that you saw, was the outfit that Robin was in when he was murdered by the joker! This is a much older and different Batman than you have seen before. And the previous Batman movies are not in the same continuity as this movie. This Batman is very much like Batman was in a certain run of the comic. I think he started killing people after Robin was murdered. And also this is not the first version of Batman that killed people. The Tim Burton version killed quite a few people in the first two movies. People tend to forget about that when they are talking about Batman movies. But when you shove a bum down somebody's pants and push them off the top of a building, that tends to kill them. You really should watch the Tim Burton ones I think you would have a lot of fun with them. And you should also watch the Wonder woman and the Aquaman movie as they are directly connected to this movie. And you definitely should see Wonder woman before seeing the Justice League movie, because it directly references things that happened in The Wonder woman movie.

    Batman's motivation is not insecurity.
You saw all the dialog in the Man of Steel movie, but from an external observer, Superman just destroyed lives with his fights and superpowers. I think the desire of Bruce Wane to kill Superman did not start when Superman destroyed the Batmobile, but when Bruce was holding the girl pointing at the collapsed building when asked where her mom was.
The most out of character thing these movies have, is Clark Kent's personality basically being Superman with glasses. Clark is supposed to be a completely different character and voice intonation, so if you hear Superman's voice and you know Clark, you are not supposed to know they are the same.
I think the best thing to do is watching the movies in release order. Wonder Woman is next. In this movie they introduce her as a mystery and a surprise, if you have watched Wonder Woman first, all the surprise would be gone.

This Batman is very much a grizzled veteran where he has spent a good majority of his life not only as being Batman, but continually watching friends and allies fall around him. While you're right about Batman not killing, this is an older more seasoned Batman who has kind of had enough.
Also, this is just my opinion, but the Snyder Cut of Justice League is where it's at. It's a long movie but it is so completely worth it. The first version that came out was kind of...wonky because Zack Snyder had to leave the movie because of a personal tragedy in his life and the director they hired to finish the movie truly cut Snyders' vision. Zack later came back after the movie came out and got some...crappy reviews to redo the entire movie and bring his vision to fruition.

One of the things that most people miss about Bruce's hatred towards Superman is that Zod flat out said that Kal El FLED to Earth and had been hiding among them. Not that he was sent there as a baby and grew up AS one of them. Bruce even says, "He brought the war to US."
Also, a lot of people miss this little fact. Superman ALLOWED Bruce to threaten him with the spear instead of fighting back. At the beginning of the fight, he bent the solid steel gauntlet on Bruce's left forearm AFTER getting dosed with Kryptonite gas. He had plenty of time between the last time he was dosed and when Bruce was standing above him to work the gas out of his system, so it was just the spear that was causing him pain, but we saw later that he was able to fly while holding the spear and ram it into and through Doomsday while being in close proximity to Kryptonite AND being impaled through the heart by Doomsday. He could have easily launched Bruce away and continued the fight if he had wanted to. He wanted to reach Bruce and so used Martha's name, having researched Bruce after finding out his name at the party and finding out he was Batman and then researching Batman for his story that Perry killed.

In this version of Batman, some liberties were taken to setup the backstory for him. He's been Batman for 20 years. And in this timeline as Batman, his first Sidekick Robin was murdered, His house was set on fire, and an alien from a distant planet came to earth and nearly destroyed an entire city as well as the planet(Zod). In Batmans eyes Superman being the one to kill Zod made him become possibly the most dangerous being on the planet. Batman now fears what could become of the planet if Superman should be evil.
This film/Stories does a great job showing just how much the world has changed now that Superman exists in it. It also does a great job of showing the internal struggle of Batman/Bruce that he deals within himself. Having to come to terms with his hesitation/fear towards Supermans possible raw power and strength, in addition with also knowing that this being(Superman) is needed in the aid of earths defense.
Cool and funny reaction by the way lol I was laughing to myself every time you kept thinking you weren't watching the Extended Edition lol 😂 Enjoyed the reaction, keep up the great work. And PLEASEEEEEEE, watch Zack Snyders Justice League. It's the 2021 version that's 4 hours long.

His dreams are visions from the a possible future, where he comes an enforcer under Darkside, to which you see the Omega symbol in his vision.
The Flash came to him saying. " You have to save Martha." Bruce thought it was about his mom until Lois told it was Clark's mom.
As fore the message on the Robin suit. Jason Todd one of the Robins after Dick Greyson grew up & came Knightwing. Was killed by the Joker horrificaly in the comics.

The reason why Batman was against Superman was that Superman was so powerful that Batman feared that Superman would turn evil and destroy everything on earth. The whole "Martha scene" the reason why he was telling Superman "why did you say that name?!" And he found out it's his mother's name, because he knew that Batman was going to kill him and he was worried about someone else besides himself and Batman realized that he's become what he's been fighting since he became Batman. And yes, Lex orchestrated the whole thing because he hates Superman. And Lex wanted to be the hero that saved the world. The knightmare scene was a nightmare, but the other "dream" where the other person says "it's Lois, she's the key..." That wasn't a dream, as the papers behind Bruce are falling down.

I'm reading Comics (Marvel, DC & everything available in Europe) since more than 55 years! My favourite Superhero was, is and will always be Batman. And believe me, Ben Affleck (Batfleck) ist the by far most comic accurate Batman I've ever seen on the big screen. Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer & George Clooney? C'mon, no way! Christian Bale? Brilliant trilogy, but not the huge fighter, Batman always has been in comic books. And here he is: Ben Affleck is the Dark Knight as created by famous Comic legends Neal Adams, Frank Miller or Jim Lee - to name a few! And why did he fight against Superman? Bruce/Batman had no dreams, he had VISIONS from the future - and in this future he was killed by an evil Superman. Please rewatch this movie for your own joy (a must for all Zack Snyder movies!) and you will discover many things you missed. Next movies: Justice League (Snydercut) and Aquaman. Wonder Woman - if you haven't seen it - you can watch whenever you want.

Blue I want to thank you for leaving that long, amazing rant at the beginning. It would’ve been so easy for you to show an edited down version with only a passing mention of the difficulty you had in locating the extended cut. The part where you realized that you’d been watching it all along is one for the Trixy Blue highlight reel if there ever is one. Very funny and good judgement to leave it all in!

Bruce just sees the danger of someone as powerful as Superman. Like he said, if there is just a 1% chance of him turning evil it would be the end of the world. The stakes are just too high to believe he’ll stay a good guy.

That's one thing most people don't get about Superman. Absolute power corrupts. Superman is so powerful, he is in constant danger of being corrupted. If he ever strays from his moral compass, he'd be a massive threat. In the comics, even Superman understands this - at one point he gives Batman a piece of Kryptonite because Batman is the only one he trust to stop him if he ever turns bad.

You watched Bruce have a nightmare where the Superman went rogue, you seen Lex orchestrate the friction between them and yet you still cant understand why batman is fighting superman?? 🤨
