They really got Magneto right. His views are different from Charles. However he loved and respected him enough to honor his final wish. Wish more media would remember that he's traumatized by the things he's gone through. He's not evil just for the sake of being evil.

The insane thing is that Magneto isn’t wrong in his worldview. Humans will never accept mutants simply out of fear, and everything Magneto has done (besides in the 60s, those were a weird time) has been to protect his people, so that no child should have to suffer the way he did. Hell, even in death, he saw his actions as what they were: the result of someone so broken by what he lost he became the very thing he swore to prevent

Magneto was legitimately honoring the dream of Xavier. (Spoilers lay ahead for those who are unaware of the events in the show). It once the attack and destruction of Genosha happened, that’s when magneto lost it. He tried his best to honor the dream and to pursue peace. Once he saw that some parts of humanity would never accept him or his kind, he lost it. He saw that some humans would be hellbent on murdering every innocent mutant. He decided that the dream could never become reality. Magneto resorted to his old self and attempted to cause the destruction of humanity.
That man tried everything in his very being to be a hero. Then he watched as one of the greatest mutants to live was struck down and depowered, and then as giant robots came and obliterated paradise like it was nothing and vaporized child in his arms and killed one of his team. Then the person behind it took him and tortured him. He had absolutely every right to do what he did and Charles didn’t have a leg to stand on.
This is the reason why Fox´s xmen failed in the long run, Don't be afraid of the cheesy aspects of the comics, embrace them, while at the same time showing us the worst that humanity can do. Be PROUD of what the X-men are and were, sure fox gave us the ultimate wolverine with hugh. But if Marvel has proven us one thing, is that you can accept the silly stuff in your story AND STILL BE AMAZING, magneto´s speech says it all in this episode.
The sad thing is that, while it goes against every instinct in his body and everything he is, he’s genuinely trying to walk Xavier’s path, because he values and loves his old friend enough to commit himself completely to his cause and his final wish. Had Genosha not been destroyed, he would’ve lived his whole life following that path, but the second innocent mutants died, he completely gave up on Xavier’s dream and realized it was completely dead. Maybe if humans had been more sympathetic and helpful to the surviving mutants, he wouldn’t have taken the drastic measures he did in the final episodes, but humanity made him let them down by letting him down first. Edit: I also love the symbolism in this scene. When Magneto says “How vast it(the world) is versus how small we make it,” it cuts to Jean giving birth, symbolizing the parents view of their entire world being as small as their baby. Then when he says “and it does not ask you to love or embrace my kind as your own,” it cuts to Rogue, a mutant who literally can’t be touched by anyone, has the basic right to live in the world. And finally it cuts back to Jean when he says “And that my kind, like yours, have the right to live in it,” symbolizing a baby’s basic right to live and live happy, just as anyone, human and mutant, should have that right. It took me several rewatches to see the symbolism and I just wanted to point it out Edit 2: I love that it’s Val Cooper who turns away from Magneto. She’s the one who insisted on the trial, the one who went to arrest him at the mansion, and she’s ultimately the one to side with Bastion because she believed that mutants were a threat to humanity because of their gifts. She wasn’t afraid with biases, she knew mutants like Magneto can take over at will, but she also knew mutants like the X Men existed, people who genuinely want to do the right thing or just live their lives. She thought Genosha was a good thing, a way for mutants to just live. She had no idea Bastion would go to such extremes and wipe it out, which is why she let Magneto out, because she backed the wrong play and didn’t see it until it was almost too late.
This scene is so goddamn good that it’s really a shame we didn’t get a better one in the rest of the series. This scene convinced me to binge all 10 episodes and I loved it, but it’s also going to remain what I think of first when reminded of the show. Anyway, what I’m saying is I wish this season peaked at the finale and not episodes 2 and 5.
A Shared World for all Humans , for all Races, for all Colors.. I Just Hope we all have the same vision like Charles Xavier and Now Magneto. Ever Since the day i read the X-Men their Mythos of stories are about Indifference and Hatred to One Another. And so Opposing on what's happening in our world right now..
I cannot express into words how ride-or-die I would be with Magneto. Want to help the X-Men? I'm helping the X-Men too. Want to be an X-Man? Get me the blue and gold fit with the bomber jacket. Tired of humanity's bullshit? I'm up there on Asteroid M, kitted out in Acolyte gear blocking the door to Magneto's throne room like a miniboss.
He's come a long way from pulling up to gas stations in a magnetism-powered car and terrorising the gas station attendants for assuming his car needed a refill.
Considering Magneto speaks like he's some kind of god is really telling about his character. He never saw himself as equal to humans and never will, he will only ever see himself as superior to them with the only thing changing being if he's willing to tolerate them or not.
The thing is Charles and Erik need each other to ground each other because you have the leader in the streets and the mouthpiece at the government they work together and they can actually save mutant kind if Erik spent less hating charlesr.
@seanwilliams7655 I feel like it will lead to a version of it because they spent much of the season redeeming Magneto, and now it seems they will do the same with Apocalypse next
As much as I love this and this moment this it's also one of the few problems I had with 97. It felt like the show was going way too far out of it's way to make Magneto right and to make Xavier look like a naive fool with the mind of a child. I'd like season 2 to give some defense for Xavier's side and show proof that Xaviers dream is more than just a childish fantasy. Just as season 1 showed Magneto to be more than just a traumatized victim Xavier should have validation all his own. The philosophical struggle doesn't work when one is obviously right and the other is obviously wrong, if this were done the other way around, Xavier seeming to be totally right and Magneto totally wrong no one would like that and it shouldn't be done this way either. The first two of the Fox reboot films handled this perfectly, First Class showed why Magneto believes humans will never accept mutants and Days of Future Past showed why Xavier continues to believe his dream can one day be a reality. Both sides need to have a point and seem believable, not just Magneto.
TBF, people are constantly getting Xavier's side. Both in the X-Men world, and in real life. It was more important to recognize that Mangeto has some VERY legitimate reasons for doing what he does.
@@seanwilliams7655 and there's ways to do that without vilifying all of humanity. The way humans are portrayed here leaves me wondering how anyone could possibly side with Xavier, he's given no foot to stand on. In X-Men First Class humans are also shown to mostly be terrible as well but individuals like Moira and that one CIA agent who's killed by Azazel are examples of humans who are not only important to the plot but also are clear examples that Xavier's dream is not a faulty one. Magneto has been given much validation by the end but there remains just enough hope for Xavier's side too. It never throws Xavier under the bus and just champions Magneto at his expense.
@@MrEffectfilms I don't think it vilifies humans. Trish is guilty of, at most, being tone deaf. Something that happens with a lot of people who consider themselves allies to oppressed groups in real life. Even the government officials in the Magneto trial aren't really vilified. They're putting a terrorist on trial. Sure, he has some very legit reasons for doing what he did, but I understand he's still a terrorist. President Kelly is trying to balance his desire to help the X-Men with the fact that mutants are controversial to say the least, and openly being pro mutant would probably get him voted out of office and replaced with someone way less friendly toward the cause. Even Captain America is right that charging into another country would be an international incident if he did it. Personally, I think it's made to look a lot like the civil rights movement. Some white people were pro civil rights, and some were against. I think that's a fair take. This kind of reminds me of the story about Danny Glover trying to make a movie about the Haitian revolution. He said people kept rejecting it because there were no "white heroes" for white people to identify with. The thing to keep in mind is that everything is about perspective.
Yeah...I just can't buy this scene at all. All those lines do is make Magneto looks just as insane and homicidal as the Executioner. Spoiler alert, terrorizing anybody into compliance or else, isn't a win, it's just a glorified death threat. All this Magneto worship praising him like some hero and its like people completely forget that Magneto always has and always will be a total homicidal villain and the hate he gets is justified because he tried and has murdered innocent people, including other mutants.

It took me several rewatches to see the symbolism and I just wanted to point it out
Edit 2: I love that it’s Val Cooper who turns away from Magneto.

Wait, is this true?
This is wacky enough to actually be something that happens in the old shows and comics.
It happened in the 1967 Fantastic Four cartoon. It’s same cartoon where Mr. Fantastic uses a wooden gun to trick Magneto into surrendering.
Sorry Erik, humanity let you down hard….💔
Considering Magneto speaks like he's some kind of god is really telling about his character.
He never saw himself as equal to humans and never will, he will only ever see himself as superior to them with the only thing changing being if he's willing to tolerate them or not.
All humanity had to do was leave him alone.
Amd then they went and did just that
The moment I became a magneto fan
I put this work on the level of anything written by Shakespeare Hamlet or any other written intellectual property the history hails as peak.
Magneto & Eren are always invited to the cookout.
The thing is Charles and Erik need each other to ground each other because you have the leader in the streets and the mouthpiece at the government they work together and they can actually save mutant kind if Erik spent less hating charlesr.

I am trying to find the soundtrack of this scene but it is nowhere to be found, can someone help?

It's amazing how you talk while missing the extremely important context of what he has been through and the world he lives in.
You're looking at him in a vacuum, and that's pure ignorance.
@@blueblade6174 And all you're seeing is the child that went through the Holocaust who was unfortunate enough to be a mutant. He may have had a shit childhood and some hard knocks with some assholes in his life but that doesn't justify murdering and terrorizing innocent people that had nothing to do with his war. This is not an innocent child, this is a grown ass man who knows right from wrong and doesn't give a shit about it. If anyone is looking at Magneto in a vacuum, it's people like you that give excuses and special treatment based on how many boxes he checks off on the oppression checklist rather than by genuine merit and actions as its just as vile and murderous as the Executioner's actions are. I would call your talk pure ignorance but its worse, it's bigotry in its highest form. The Executioner and Magneto are two sides of the same hate-filled coin. The only difference is that one has powers and one doesn't and if you flip their powers, there is literally no difference.

@@Peasham Sweetie, those two did more for serious social change by following a NON-VIOLENCE protocol, the exact same thing that CHARLES XAVIER is doing. By that logic, you would be rooting for Charles Xavier, not trying to defend a mass murdering terrorist like Magneto.
Why should the humans let him down we all know Magneto will let us down such a hypocrite.
He's begging the leaders of humanity to not make him revert to his old ways.
Should he revert, it will undo any progress made between "normal" humans and anyone deemed "dangerous" just because they're different, because humanity always looks to the worst in everyone else while acting like they themselves don't have any bad in them at all (talk about hypocrisy, am I right?).
